    One of the most beautiful sounds in the world -- the great temple bell being struck, especially at 3:00 in the morning, in darkness and silence, being with the sound until it melted away in the valley below.

    We let our mind go to the sounds and use them to remind us of the present moment.

    The bonsho is almost impossible to find online. I remember still the mornings and evenings at the monastery hearing it and seeing deer gather near the person ringing it in the dark. 😭

      May living beings of the dharma realms,
      stifled and mired in bitterness
      in the three painful destinies and eight hardships,
      hear the sound and awaken to the way.

    It is very easy to be mindful here, but I wonder how I can achieve this state while out in not so pleasant locations.

      Acceptance. Resistance is the problem, not the locations.

      Your mind can be other than in the location of the body, and will go where it is pleasant, if you let it. Let-go.

    • @buutich1
      @buutich1 7 лет назад +11

      If you truly practiced and understand this tradition, you would know that the bird is part of it. The Great Way is not difficult for those who have no preferences.

      Mohamjip and if you "truly" understood his question you wouldn't have given him a righteous answer. dude just wants to hear the gong without the effing bird sound. sometimes people don't want a pickle sllice on their sandwich. they're not some buddhist failure for having preferences. we all have preferences. sheesh.

    temple bell like this is usually rung that many times during New Year... the bird has been added.
    Doesn't sound authentic :(

    Only one bird. Needs more birds.

    • @jackhousman6637
      @jackhousman6637 7 лет назад +1

      Very true, of course. The question is, does this one bird prefer to hear the bell, and the others, not, or, does it HEAR the bell, and the others not? OR: Does this bird prefer to sing with the bell while the others (if there are others) prefer to keep silent? Also, if one is meditating in the garden, and seeking to become one with the bell (the voice of The Way), does the bird join one on one's journey, or must it travel The Way itself? Seed for thought.

    • @buutich1
      @buutich1 7 лет назад +3

      When one is meditting in the garden, one does not seek to only become one with the bell, but One with everything, including the bird. :)
