While I am unfortunately too jaded to appreciate the thrill of the horror, I *love* the descriptive language used. Lovecraft had an elegant turn of words. The reader also did a fantastic job of delivering. Subtle tides of inflection did make the reading that much more enjoyable. If you excuse me, I see more I need to listen to....
McKavian Too jaded by what? Crack, video games, enlarging your poop Shute? please share thousands await the escape from the emptiness of being jaded. 2 weeks in a tight gimp suit with many zipper in sensitive or valued loci and a Santaria Princess might be a good start.
It's kill-dare not kill-dar-eh. It's interesting that Lovecraft knew of something as esoteric as the book of invasions. I thought only Irish people knew those stories. Also, I don't know how easy he thinks it is to drain a bog, but it takes years not weeks or days.
Lovecraft was knowledgeable about New England and within and around Boston there is a kinship with the Irish. Even in Holyoke Mass there is the largest Irish parade
Try reading the text before you make an eejit of yourself. It is spelled 'Kilderry' and secondly the author distinctly states it takes place in County Meath.
Really cool story but I wish he had just used ancient Celtic stuff instead of Greek which seems to pervade his work. He references the book of invasions so clearly he has at least some acquaintance with Irish legend.
90% of the time the moral of lovecraft stories is "listen to the locals when they say something is cursed or bad"
Good point! :D
pffft peasants know nothing

They live there right? Who would know better?
All hail the hideous piping flutes that keep The Primal Chaos, Azathoth, in its slumber!

+McKavian Yes, Lovecraft's use of English was marvelous! Cheers!
His plots are so predictable it's hard to get a genuine sense of horror. I think his use of language is what makes his writing so captivating.

So, this narrator has lent his voice to a lot of Lovecraft's tales. Does anyone know about the recording or who the voice belongs to?
His name is Gordon Gould.
