Thanks for showing me this nice town and the rough seaside. Looks a bit like the westcoast of Danmark (a bit). There are also kilometerslong lonely beaches, where one just can walk and walk for hours. Beautiful. Thanks. And a happy New year, all the best for 2023.
My great-grandfather Pete Philipsen, moved from Denmark in the 1890's and established the Humboldt Creamery in Ferndale in the late 1920's. My wife and I have enjoyed the series "Seaside Hotel" filmed there in Denmark.
My great-grandparents on my father's side lived in Ferndale and my great-grandfather Pete Philipsen started the Humboldt cooperative creamery which is next to Fernbridge. Costco's and Trader Joe's premium vanilla ice creams are from Humboldt creamery, but our family hasn't been associated with it for decades.
💜 another wonderful video. I love when you share all of the scenery and the moments like that with a water. So very meditative. Nice relaxing tracks sleep aid for sure. I loved it when you said fortress of solitude… I am quite sure we could all benefit from our own fortress of solitude :-)
Even though I have never been there, that beach has been in several dreams I have had over the years. Wild and undeveloped, I wish we had more places like this.

Love Ferndale, I grew up in Del Norte so I was in humboldt often and spent alot of time in Ferndale. I also spent time further down the lost coast in the tiny outpost of Honeydew, a wonderful place to hang out and escape from pretty much everything.
Ferndale looks like a storybook Christmas village. I will probably never travel to that part of the country to my regret. I know this video is time delayed and shown after your being sick. I will pray that you are fully recovered and regaining your strength. I also pray that you are spending time with your family and enjoying priceless memories. Your online community really appreciates your videos of breathtaking beaches and slower pace picturesque towns. The coffee shop and two cups of coffee were interesting. Be strong and remember God is the Creator of all the beauty of nature that we get the wondrous blessing to enjoy. God Bless you, Scott, and safe travel mercies!
It is looks-wise. People-wise, not so much. We have a lot of racist's and "good old boys" around here, Ferndale especially. One thing they do is move homeless to other towns so they don't "obstruct the landscape".
In November I spent three days in Ferndale and fell in love with the place. I even drove to that same beach and to the first of the BLM parking lots. I didn’t realize there was a second one further up. It really was a magical place. Loved this video!!
I enjoyed seeing the old buildings downtown they've been very well preserved. While out walking in the chilly air you should have worn a stocking cap to keep your head warm. Thank you for sharing your day with us.
Lol. You are definitely from SoCal. Ferndale doesn't get cold in the winter compared to interior parts of CA. I've lived here for 10 years. Some years we don't even get a frost. But the beach is definitely windy. Not a swimsuit beach at any time of the year. Bundle up, even in July, and go there to see Sea Lions floating in the water, massive driftwood, rocky cliffs, and The Old Barn At The Beach. Anyway thanks for posting about Ferndale, it is a lovely town (even when it's cool and foggy, lol).
So beautiful. Fort the phone booth, then the lovely coffee shop and then that amazing tree on your left when you were walking back to your van in town. The beach needs no words. Thank you Scott, I will have to go there.
Thank You for sharing your videos and Happy new year. I hope you are safe, stay healthy and blessed. Heard there was an earthquake around there. Let us know how you weathered it.
You’re making me want to revisit the Pacific Northwest. I haven’t heard as much bad stuff in news here on east coast lately. Im sure there’s still issues, but if I avoided cities…
Happy New Year. Loved the town, especially the coffee shop. I could spend hours there with coffee and a book. Glad to see you are feeling up to editing and posting.
We are thinking we need to take a little drive down to Ferndale this weekend. Hadley Gardens was still under construction the last time we were there. Now I really want to visit it and get some coffee at Mind's Eye Cafe. 😊 Have you hiked the cemetery in town. It's pretty big and a steep hike. I always enjoy hiking to the top. Afternoon Scott, glad ur doing better. Am writing this on Dec 31 so Happy New Yr. A couple of weeks ago while in Monterey, CA I wrote to u and mentioned if u wanted some sun u would have to drive to the central coast and past Morro Bay. Well I'm down in Morro Bay and its rainy and windy, just like Humboldt area. Looks like its gonna be like this for awhile, though Christmas Eve and day was bright sunshine. @@StaticCamperVan Thanks for the reply. If u make it down Monterey way check out Cafe Mia. Its actually in Marina just a few minutes north of Monterey off Hwy 1. Great local spot with good coffee.
I see why you liked that coffee shop. It's like a sundries there was one we went to once a week. Loved going there. I like egg sandwiches but never heard of using bbq on one may have to try it. Thank you for sharing.

If I understand it correctly, the way the percentage of rain things works is more like there will be rain, but in X percent of the forecast area sometime during the designate timeframe. So with a 100% chance, there will be at least a little rain sometime in the whole area, but not necessarily everywhere at the same time.
The Fleener Creek Lookout, where you ate you egg salad sandwich, has fallen into the ocean. However, if you go a rough country mile or so further you'll reach the Gutherie Creek Trailhead.
A few videos ago, you had some polenta from a tube. I wholeheartedly agree that it is pretty tasteless, BUT, it is a delightful accompaniment to other foods when made from scratch. It is deceivingly easy to do and you can add all manner of tasty things to it in the process. Despite the outrageous price that is charged for the tube, it is very inexpensive as you will see when prepared on your own. It takes only 1/4 of a cup of the grain to a cup of water to make a large portion. It lends itself to thrifty fuel use, and happens fairly quickly. Also very accommodating to incorporating any small leftovers you might have, as well as eggs - almost any style - on the side, or mixed in. Cheese sprinkled on top is a real bonus. It doesn’t take much. And it is the perfect foil for that salsa that you favor. It can be reheated with some additional fluid (broth is good) and attentive stirring, to provide a second side dish. A hand potato masher makes short work of any lumps. Traditionally, the Italian way is to fry the chilled, solid slices, but that never worked out, or appealed, to me.
That tube of polenta was very cheap. Plus I like having some food items on hand that don’t require much cooking. After working for ten years in professional kitchens, I know I can cook anything, but sometimes I’m short on time or fuel. I’d buy polenta again. But only if it’s a great deal like before.
Happy New Year Scott!! Astrological configurations look promising. Wishing you a year filled with laughter, love, adventure, and lots of Really Good coffee!! :D 😺💜

do you find you can get all the places you want or do you wish your van had higher clearance? I am shopping for a car to live in and are on the fence about if those small vans like you have are high enough to go on enough BLM land. Thanks!
I’m mostly city-bound but I’ve not had any real problems with clearance when I do get out on BLM or National Forests. But if clearance is important to you, these minivans are pretty low. I’ve heard of people fitting larger tires to help.
The booth is right outside Ferndale Pizza co and is a well respected and liked establishment and Im pretty sure they along with the city keep it nice but it doesn’t work unfortunately
Great town, crappy people. As a local who's on the inside, I can tell you there is a lot of "good old boy" closet racism around this area. Most people are fine and won't say thing's to your face, but please be careful and aware that this is the country for best AND worst.
There is often a misunderstanding about my vlogs from people who haven't seen many before. I realize that there are both good and not so good people. But it is my effort to highlight the good because we are inundated with the not so good. We need to always keep our guard up. But we also need to find the beauty in our surroundings and soak up peace whenever possible.
I've lived in Ferndale for 10 years and in Humboldt for 42 years. There is racism everywhere. But in Ferndale even the cowboys are polite, because that's how they were raised, and that's good enough for me.
@@thadhorner5129 I'm sure they do, you're a middle aged white man. I'm just saying in high school I've grown up being friends with, and knowing the kids of the older crowd in this area. Many many things are swept under the rug, or people get away with things because it's so secluded, much more so than before moving from San Diego. Also it doesn't help that a lot of people around here hate outsiders or people not raised here. I'm just trying to warn others that this place is the country and not everything is pretty and just be careful.
Lived here my whole life and I love it

do you find you can get all the places you want or do you wish your van had higher clearance? I am shopping for a car to live in and are on the fence about if those small vans like you have are high enough to go on enough BLM land. Thanks!
I’m mostly city-bound but I’ve not had any real problems with clearance when I do get out on BLM or National Forests. But if clearance is important to you, these minivans are pretty low. I’ve heard of people fitting larger tires to help.
@@StaticCamperVan thanks for the info!
OMG No parking meters plus a payphone that is not trashed.
The booth is right outside Ferndale Pizza co and is a well respected and liked establishment and Im pretty sure they along with the city keep it nice but it doesn’t work unfortunately
What is the cave like structure behind you at around 9:00?
It's a cave someone made. You can see it close up in this vlog:

Thats what us locals call the ol bear cave
America's nicest town... if you don't mind all the vampires. 🤣🧛🦇

bbq sauce on eggs? what no yellow bird?
Thanks Ken!
I’ve been out of Yellowbird for months. I need to rectify that.
Why static ? Piggybacking nomadic static to get viewers?
I’m not familiar with that channel. Is that your channel?
Definitely not the nicest town. Not even close. Beautiful for sure. Although I suppose you get a comment like this everywhere.
