Fastest customer I ever dumped. First time on the property, just pulled the mower off and started it when the customer ran at me and ordered me to pick up the dog crap before I mow. Drove the mower right back up and left with a smile.

New Subscriber Here! We’ve been in business for 10 years. For the past couple of years, we are happy to get rid of those pita customers. We normally keep raising their price every year until they fire us. We also switched to prepaid about 5 years ago and that nearly eliminated chasing our money.

I’d like more information on how you go about doing prepaid with your business

@@Murphyslawncare We love our prepaid policy. You definitely don’t want to jump into it, test the waters first with new potential customers that you don’t care if you get the account or not. Simply let the customer know you have a prepaid service policy. You can start off prepaid per service or every other, or even monthly. Majority of our customers are on monthly prepaid plans. Example: $50/cut weekly customers pay $200 per month. Oh course some months have five weeks but there are also weeks we skip due to extended rain delays or very dry conditions especially during the summer months. It normally averages out to 4 cuts per month over the course of the season. Sometimes customers will have a credit of 1 or 2 cuts at the end of the season in which we put towards fall cleanups. We have a method to our madness but it works great for us. We even have nearly 40 customers that spread their payments out over a 12 month period. So nice to still get paid sitting on granny’s couch over the winter months.

The classic is, “the last guy did it for $$$”. My response is where is the last guy then as there is always a reason they left. I always like asking new customers if this is the first lawn care service they’ve had or if they had someone in the past. I try to avoid the future red flag problems.

Funny thing is most of the time there’s never another guy.

Getting rid of a lawn care customer can be very easy. All you have to do is tell them that you are downsizing lawns because you have too many on your schedule 😁
