The girls did great. I don't think anyone is saying they didn't do probably exactly what they learned. What's off and what makes it weird to watch is the tones clashing. The song is bassy/repetitive, good for strong decisive movements. Smiling, especially with teeth usually is associated to fun, flirty and light choreography. Whoever told them to smile is very confused about what vibe they were trying to present. The tan girl's attitude was the closest to how the song/choreography presents. She's not smiling, she looks in control and her flow on some movements was some really good stuff. The hand movements should of focused on slow and controlled twirling and snaking around for a beginner course with maybe a few quick decisive changes. The ones they were told to do felt jerky and with no finesse. Better to do easier movements that look good than more difficult ones that aren't controlled as well.

I feel like it's partially the song choice and the facials. It's also the energy but like when I think of Vogue I don't think of smiling.
