I can see it now, thousands of years from now archeologists will dig up these pistols with rods in the UK and dig up AR15 pistol braces and mossberg shockwaves in the US and debate among each other on what the hell were these weapons and why did these ancient people make them so goofy looking.
They ended up digging them up in mass numbers because of the large amount of people who buried them for safe keeping. Lol
I think theyll assume we evolved arms last
the history channels gonna say the aliens gave us the technology for guns
Iirc medieval Germany had like 2' long "knives" because peasants couldn't own swords. I wonder if it will be viewed in the same light
mossberg shockwave 590s are not goofy. it's the closest you can legally get to a sawed off shotgun. they're badass looking and not even comparable to these long rod pistols lol
Unless that rod off the grip is made of vibranium any criminal could cut it off, same with the barrel too.
Its like the laws here in the US where rifle under 16" (18" for shotgun) is illegal without an extortion fee yet any criminal could cut their gun down so it doesnt stop law breakers.

At least I had the chance to own one here 😭

I used to have access to one of those as a club gun. Ours was set up for Service Pistol 1 and turned out to be very accurate with well tuned handloads.
I thought this was extremly well delivered and very informative, clear and precise..
and here I thought Demolition Ranch's 26" barrel .500 magnum was for comedy, but he was just trying to conform to UK handgun laws. LOL
Thanks for an informative video. After a forty year hiatus from shooting I was wondering what these long barrelled pistols were about.
This make me want to import one of these pistols in this configuration. This is a perfect example of how laws end up hurting law abiding citizens instead of actually stopping criminals (who we can assume are what these laws are intended to stop). This is definitely a representation of those laws failing. But at the same time I am glade that British citizens have still found a way to legally enjoy shooting pistols in their country. Admittingly not without jumping through a few hoops.
I would like to import one of these too. It would give gun owners here a frightening reality check that this could happen to us in the US.
i hope you didnt because surely that would be classed as a short barreled rifle according to the atf , funny how that works eh ?
@@ivanbluetarski9071 just pay the Tax Stamp and get it over with. SBR all day long legally. And I doubt the rod would be considered a "stock" by ATF Standards. So SBR still wouldn't be an issue.
@@nexusofice9135 you missed the point i was making . the contradiction between the two nations laws
@@ivanbluetarski9071 the entire video is about laws. It means nothing owning one here. And as I said before. I don't think you would even be considered an SBR here anyways.
Ooh dear. I miss the good old days down the range. Practical shooting paper targets with the S&W. 45 acp and wooden skittle smashing. Now its shotguns and ok to kill game on the shoot. Strange times.
The long barreled pistols, weighted rod and the muzzle loading revolvers are all great ideas. We do not have these handgun restriction here but I would surely appreciate owning a long barreled revolver or a muzzle loading one. My hats off to the ingenuity and perseverance of gun lovers in the UK!!
Another anomaly relating to long barrel pistols is their use on military ranges. I am an FAC & Shotgun Certificate holder and member of a Home Office approved club that shoot exclusively on an MOD range in the north west of England. The Range Control Office have made it clear that while muzzle loading "cap & ball" pistols, under leaver rifles and .22 bolt action & semi auto rifles can be used on the 50 meter "pistol range", Long Barrel Pistols are prohibited. When queried the reason given was as follows: 1. This is an MOD range approved for firearms recognized & used by the military - bolt action/self loading rifles and conventionally designed handguns 2. The configuration of a Long Barrel Pistol (an artificially extended barrel & added grip extension to a conventional handgun) is not something recognized or used by the military 3. Because a Long Barrel Pistol is not recognized & used by the military it is prohibited from being used on MOD ranges. Have any other Long Barrel Pistol owners had a similar issue on MOD ranges?
Thanks for making this video Sir!
My pleasure!
As an American gun owner curious about gun ownership in other countries , what sort of handguns were common or popular in the UK between 1988-1997?
CZ-75s, Browning hi-powers, 1911s, smith and wesson, colt and other revolvers, pistols were legal then so it was really whatever you could get your hands on
I'll have to defer to more 'experienced' members of the community on that one 😉
I had a S&W 686, a CZ-85 and a Walther GSP.
I've met people who used to own pistols, and generally they owned exactly the same sorts of pistols that an american would have owned in the '80s and '90s.
Just found out about owning this type of pistol in the UK, do you have to leave the guns at the club? Do you need some kind of insurance when joining a club?
Is the sport quite popular?
Literally just came back from visiting my lad who lives in the States and had a great time target shooting with guns from pistols to AR’s.
I’d love to join a club if possible around my area (Chipping Norton)
Callum - great video as always! I’m just curious if you know of any reason, given the clubs you mentioned winning at court, why this wasn’t used as a stated case and the rules/legislation changed/trickled out to other clubs to follow suit??
Thanks Martin! I've asked the same question myself, to be honest I don't know. It has been explained to me before but I can't remember the technical explanation. I thought it would set an example, however if the police believe you're breaking the law they can take you to court even if they have lost in previous cases. Ultimately it would be down to the jury and the biggest question is if you what to take that risk.
@@EnglishShooting was it a High Court case, or Magistrates’ case? A High Court case would set a precedent but a Magistrates’ verdict would not.
Any news on the shield cz shadow pistol yet? Looked really good when you introduced it last year!
Not yet, I believe COVID has delayed things.
The only parts of the UK you can own a hand gun on section 1 is North Ireland the Channel Islands and the isles of man personally I believe that Jersey has the best gun laws in the UK with full bore semi auto rifles and hand guns on a FAC
Someone needs to do a vid on Jersey
The point is to make it harder to conceal

@@EnglishShooting Cheers for the resp- i would like to try Practical shotgun, but clubs/grounds seem as rare as rocking horse pooh. Oh well, will have to continue with clays i guess. All the best.
I could see somebody pressing out, firing and pulling back in, the rod hitting their chest and pointing the muzzle right under their chin.
That brace is so illegal in the US it's not even funny, the ATF could interpret this as a stock and you could go to jail for a LONG time.
If gun laws had any logic to them they would be universal across the globe.
Technically 30cm / 60cm for the lengths, I've seen some S1 guns slightly under 24" but still over 60cm (just!)
@@geezerp1982 Correct. Funny mix of imperial and metric in our licensing. 24" barrel for a 'normal' shotgun. 24" / 40" for a semi or pump, FAC or otherwise. 30cm / 60cm for Section 1 shotguns that aren't semi or pump. Here's what I want to know - how about a muzzle-loading shotgun (blunderbuss?) with an 8" barrel? No length restrictions on muzzle-loading so guess it'd be fine on an FAC.
Yep! I thought the same thing as I was editing the video 😆
@@EnglishShooting do you reckon they will ever relax the laws around handguns it seems like they should I would honestly rather not shoot then shoot that abomination just my opinion
@@ApurtureSci for section 2, is there an overall length req' in addition to the 24" barrel length rule?
@@liammeech3702 No, it's only pump-action and semi-auto shotguns (other than in .22 Rimfire), which must be 40" or more overall in addition to the 24" barrel. All other types, double barrel, lever-action, bolt-action etc. only require the 24" barrel, you could lop the stock off and they would still be legal on Section 2 although rather less useable! If someone were to make a bullpup shotgun that used a straight-pull or lever-action system, it could be very short with no overall length to meet besides the 24" barrel.
It’s a great way to get around a ban that should never have been!
This is a wonderful video
Another great video… So on your firearms do you have to put down for a 22lr long barrelled pistol or 22lr rifle
So if you have an air rifle/pistol with a 12 inch barrel, but the overall length is a few inches shy of 24 inches due to a folding stock, can you replace the folding stock with a fixed stock to then exceed 24 inches to then be able to make it FAC ?
They look cool for movie props

Hi Callum, I'm assuming those court cases didn't establish a legal precedent?
Thank God i live in Texas
Thank God I live in Czechia... The Texas of Europe 😂
Good vid bud, so to be clear, the only available calibre for semi auto LBRs is 22 rim fire? 9mm. 357. 38 is OK but for revolvers only? One other newb question-is an LBR more accurate with the longer barrel than the non LBR version. Always assumed it would be. Also, I assume muzzle loaders are available in all calibres and don't have to be 24" in length?. Cheers mate
Steve, I'm no longer an active shooter, but you are right that, as Section 1 firearms in GB, .22 (or other smaller) rimfire cartridges are the only allowed chamberings for semi auto rifles and long pistols. Centre fire cartridges are allowed for single shots and mechanical repeaters (including revolvers). Muzzle loading arms are not subject to these restrictions, so the shooting of both antique and reproduction muzzle loading revolvers is still allowed under section 1.
As regards accuracy, I've not shot any of these modern long pistols, but I would expect them to be more accurate by virtue of a longer sight base, if traditional open iron sights are used. But beyond that, in regular pistol shooting contests, most decent target pistols will shoot much more accurately than the average shooter can shoot them, from a free standing position. So given the inaccuracies introduced by the shooter, there did not use to be much incentive having for long pistol barrels back in the old days. The one obvious exception to that would have been long range pistol shooting, where long barrels would have allowed higher muzzle velocities and thus flatter trajectories. Telescopic sights were also allowed in many classes there.
Thanks Derek. Really in depth thorough reply. Cleared a few things up. When things normalise a bit, will look into joining a club 👍
Would the longer barrel have an affect on the guns power? I'm thinking it would increase..🤔
When i had to surrender my S&W .44 magnum revolver and my Springfield 9mm Semi-auto pistol back in the late 90's, that was it for me regarding handgun shooting.
Same old story, law abiding shooters suffer while the criminals just carry on regardless.
What a world we live in, i despair.🤢
So i guess criminals dont have hacksaws. Lol

Hello mate just out of interest did you get your fac and sgc back. Cheers
I have a question that perhaps you could do a future video on Callam.
Now that the UK has left the EU, are there any restrictions on firearms that were lifted due to EU law not applying any longer?
UK gun laws are far worse than the EU firearms directives in most regards.
It's a good idea, watch this space. I would most likely expand it to will leaving the EU be better or worse for UK gun owners. My feeling is better, we've already dodged the lead ban for example.
I remember reading a while back that the Conservatives wanted to extend the Shotgun Certificate time to 10 years.
The EU's EFD blocked it, so maybe that will happen then
Just to clarify a point here, if you own a long pistol with that bar thing on the grip it would measure 24 inches in length and would be classified as a riffle.
But if then you attached a T Bar style butt sock to that bar thing, (imagine a Sten for example) it would still be a riffle?
So what if that barrel was totally smooth bore?
I'm guessing that because that smooth bore barrel is less than 24 inches it would be illegal for not being riffled?
It is almost like some kind of magical significance is given to the number 24.
Not from the UK, but my understanding is they don't have SBR laws. Adding a stock is perfectly legal, but they want to make it handle like a pistol
I’m planning on getting a license soon. I really want a revolver, but I don’t wanna get one if I need that stick on the end to by pass the law. Are their any large revolvers so I can just stick a suppressor on the end.
The new Chiappa Bluntline but I think it's only in .22lr, you might be better off with an Alan Westlake muzzle loader.
You can get an Uberti Buntline which has an 18" barrel and therefore no rod out back. I have one in .44 Mag and it's great fun.
I’ve just been looking at the alpha proj 357 muzzle loader. Very nice gun. It’s pretty much the same as the Alan west lakes
@@dylnb137 It's Alan Westlake that makes the muzzle-loading versions of the Alfa.
You could go for black powder, cap & ball.
I daily carry a Ruger LCP .380 with 2 15 rd mags, my 5.25" Springfield XDm stays in the car with 2 25 rd mags, and my 18" semiautomatic shotgun stays by my headboard.😎👌
And since Texas is king, we are a Constitutional Carry state....no need for stupid licenses.😎👍
Also : we can own suppressors, as long as they're made in Texas, not crossing Federal lines, or as long as it's registered with the ATF if it is shipped act
Ross state lines....😎👌
Callum.I can see its the way to be able to own and shoot these pistols but really i feel they negate the whole purpose of a handgun.I used to shoot PPC in South Africa for many years and owned lots of different firearms. But competition wise i used Colt 1911's in .45 ACP .Also you needed to carry in S.A. Otherwise you could be in trouble if you didnt have a handgun on you.Luckily i never had to shoot mine but i did have to produce it on two occasions and the perpetrators instantly changed there minds.
That would be the whole point of HM Govt. To negate the handgun and its use. People get discouraged to won an item that is pointless and a bunch of dumb regulations make it even harder, more onerous.
Question about muzzle loading revolvers, is it possible to purchase a seperate cylinder for them and load multiple for faster reloads? Like just swapping the cylinder
Yes, this is done quite a lot. You'd just have to justify why you need them.
@@EnglishShooting "Because timed target shooting events look silly when times for more than 6 targets are measured in minutes."
Trying to train for 3 gun I almost lost an eye when I dropped to take a kneeling shot with my shotgun and somehow managed to catch my pistol on a barricade catapulting the pointy rod up into my face and into my eye socket just skimming under my glasses, personally I think it's a stupid law based on making it difficult for a firearm to be easily concealed if it was to be used in a crime, Its not like if a criminal managed to steal a long barreled pistol he couldn't use a hacksaw to cut the stupid coathanger off.
That is such a safety issue for us that requires us to basically re-evaluate stage design because of them.
Don't kneel to fire a shot gun. Its not a toy and you're not avoiding incoming fire.
@@julianshepherd2038 you don't have a choice, it's the stage rules, you have to kneel to fire from a hole in a board representing a hole in a barrier, you also have to lean out and fire to the right of the board and lean out to the left and fire offhand, this also poses a problem with the pistols coathanger jabbing you in the ribs. As your on timer you are trying to do all this as fast as you possibly can.
You make sure you have no snag points on your kit that could cause you to get caught up and possible trip and fall, the coathanger is actually a real safety risk.

Pathetic that the British shooting community has totally surrendered for the last 25 years. Absolutely insane that even rimfire pistols are Section 5. There needs to be a campaign to repeal the Firearms (Amendment) Act No.2 1997.
most british shooters are fudds tho

Did you get your FAC back? I heard something to the effect of that you lost it a while back.
Can you run a stock instead of that goofy rod? At least it would be functional
So are Pistol Caliber Carbines available in the UK? Like Sub 2000s or Beretta cx4 storm?
Is it legal for someone without any license to shoot an LBP? Say if they have a friend that owns one, can they let them shoot it? Or at least hold it?
General consensus is that the club exemption doesn't cover these so they cannot be shared or shot by anyone else. As for holding, some people say you can't even touch them, but that's ridiculous to me. Touching is not the same as shooting or possessing a gun. How are you meant to decide to buy a gun if you can't touch it beforehand?
@@ApurtureSci Even someone with the identical LBR or LBP on their certificate isn't allowed to shoot or even handle one belonging to somebody else. Crazy, I know. I have both and it's frustrating not being able to let new members have a go with them.
What caliber would be allowed for a Savage 1899 or Model 99 lever action rifle?
does it cost more to have an integral suppressor on an LBP?
Usually it does due to the extra components required
Where did you get the green Ruger from, any more info on that? Also couldn't see in the video but does it have a longer barrel so no rod needed, like a Buntline?

I know it not really a gun I got air pistol it come under Firearms but I was wondering what is the law of I convert it to rifle because I want to put the power up to 11.5 fpe it pp700 with the Folding stock and silencer.
I take it a private security firm that guards a a marina or shippingport could probably have a section 5
I'm curious. With all the rods, did gun violence go down because it was harder to conceal or did the criminals just remove them because they are in fact criminals.
An LBP has never been used in crime, firearm offences increased after the ban of normal handguns and still today the largest proportion of offences are committed with handguns.
@EnglishShooting It's a shame you guys get legislated to death for the acts of unlawful people. Similar direction our laws in the US are going. Specifically in the state I live in, Washington, every year more laws are dropped, crime continues to rise and their solution is more laws. Fortunately for Americans, if they try to ban a gun we currently own, we will not turn them in. This isn't Canada or Australia. 🇺🇸🙏
I've seen this before, man I kinda like the aesthetic
No....you don't. Nobody with two brain cells to rub together does.🤣👌
Isn't the rear extension dangerous? You could poke your eye out.
Less dangerous than the other end ( in the wrong hands)
Not only that, you can lose control over where you're shooting at if that rod gets caught on something or gets knocked. It's a definite safety hazzard.
My PLR-16 handgun almost meets that, it's 21 inches of NATO 5.56 fun! Even by installing a little 3 inch rod I doubt they would be allowed in the UK. Any thoughts on the matter?
We can't have semi-autos in anything other than .22 Rimfire, so no. There are a few of the Keltec CMR30s over here though, since .22 is legal.
Can you put a stock on it instead of that goofy rod ?? Greetings from Texas
You could, but the LBP is trying to be as close to a handgun as possible.
What about just slapping as stock instead of the brace coathanger, does it become a rifle?
That being said it's already a grey area but if the back had a use...
Then it would just be a rifle, the point of these is that they handle somewhat like a handgun, as close as we can get anyway.

I just love the fact that all the ever increasing licence tightenings and their wordings to restrict the legal law abiding firearm owner has had any impact on firearms crime or illegal handguns in their true form in the United Kingdom.
Too much knee jerk reaction by those who we apparently voted into power.
The amount of jobs that could be created if we relaxed ownership of now out of reach items.
No we are not a gun culture, but we are adults and if we are prepared to jump through all the hoops and play the long waiting game for that sec1 or sec2 then at least trust us and allow us to enjoy firearms as the sporting equipment we use them for and not referring to them as weapons 🤷♂️🤦♂️

Would look cool if you had your name, logo or something bent into the bar used to extend it to legnth!
I personally came to the conclusion over time that, though the looks are ruined with LBPs/Rs, the unique shooting experience they offer on the range is what matters.
If you had 2 Lee Enfields - one painted pink with My little Pony stickers etc all over it but in otherwise good mechanical condition, vs another that looked normal but with the bore completely shot out and so unable to hit the broadside of a barn, then personally I'd choose the former to shoot all day... Yes the looks with LBPs/Rs are a lost cause, they are ruined. No argument here. However it's on the range where some models are capable of delivering a cartridge fed pistol-like experience in .22 or centrefire for revolvers. An experience that is otherwise utterly unavailable on the mainland within the remits of Section 1.
This has to be the best explanation of exactly how I feel. Experiencing 30% of how handguns shoot is better than 0%.

A Westlake .357 with as many cylinders as possible for me. You can get speed loaders for the powder and with time/cooperation with the shellhouse bullet company they can make bullet heads that push fit your cylinders so no bullet press thing needed at the range. There are specific exemptions in law which allow you to share other firearms, no exemption exist for long barrel pistols, long barrel revolvers and section 1 shotguns. It’s not specifically prohibited, just no legal mechanism to allow you to do it.

Probably not bro but u could check
If you did that in the UK you wouldn't be free men for long.
This country is a joke regarding guns
Fascism
Sucks to be British
Not many shootings in the UK per capita.
I feel so bad for the english..
People who ask question like "what the hell is that?" Should have licence revoke. Owning pistol is very serious matter. Is a hudge privilege NOT a right to own fire arm licence and showing extremely high level of trust from local services to the person that have being given that privilege. Behind every decision and regulations is a reason and is very important to understand that reason. Advice for people from abroad : check reason for that regulations before starting comment. A.N
Screw gun control.
Nice milguass
British ingenuity to a tee... looks f**k ugly... but it gets the job done!
