im a knowledgable licensed mechanic but this was my first time doing door speakers and you made it so simple did both sides in 45 ish mins struggled takin off the panel as it was in there tight
I'll try this with a miracast dongle (wireless casting). To power the mircast dongle, I'll use the USB cable that plugs from one of USB ports on the back of the head unit (manual also uses this same port to show how to get this feature working and i get to hide the cable in the storage compartment).
What do you mean by that? I just installed polk db+ 6.5 in all four doors and there is absolutely no sound. I tried unplugging the tweeter but I’m stumped. I have a Sony head unit I’m gonna put in but I’m waiting on a dash kit. Will that solve my issue?
I just finished installing Polk DB652s on my 2013 Subaru Impreza. A couple things that might be helpful. #1 when removing the door panel be super careful around the top rear of the panel. There is a large plastic bracket that snapped off on me. I'd start at the bottom or mid of the door and work outward. #2 I used 6 x size 8 1 inch screws and 2 x size 8 3/4 in screws where the bracket gets super skinny to attach the speaker to the Metra adapter. #3 there is a plastic bracket behind the door handle assembly that will probably fall out when you remove the door handle assembly. It doesn't seem to matter whether or not this is in place but just FYI...I was too lazy to reinstall it after fitting the door panel back on
All parts are linked in the description. Yeah you could half ass the install and screw the speakers right to the sheet metal of the door, but it might interfere with the window regulator and cause unwanted vibration and corrosion.
We just installed front and rear door speakers in my sons 2013 cross trek. Unfortunately, we have no sound. Power to the head unit but nothing at the speakers. Any thoughts or suggestions to troubleshoot? Thx
Will fitting coaxial in the doors and removing the tweeters work? Plan to fit coaxial for now and then replace with component later. Just concerned that the coaxial in the door will ignore the tweeter, as their is a separate tweeter
The door speaker passes through the the tweeter before it goes to the door. So if you just add a coaixal in the door, thats fine, but leave the tweeter alone, still plugged in.
Because we don't hack up the OEM speakers (in case the customer wants to have them reinstalled), and our base trim speakers don't separate from the bracket (they are all one piece).
I have a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek and I have the upgraded speakers from my old 2016 Mazda that my ex installed. I have little knowledge about any of this. But the speakers I have that I want to install now are 652 coaxial speakers? Will the parts listed in this be compatible for this?
You can twist them together if you do it well enough, but in my experience it makes them very fragile and doesn’t last long. You can find soldering tutorials like this guy did, i’d say its about beginner level difficulty you just might need to borrow/buy the tools needed but the end product is worth it
I'll answer this. you should probably solder them together, but there are other means of securing the wires like tying them that might work okay. get a cheap soldering iron from harbor freight for about 15$
I have a fully stock 2013 Subaru Impreza Sedan. I want to throw in a Boss CarPlay system, new front tweeters, and all 4 door speakers. My goal is making audio louder and better quality than old stock speakers. I watched all your Subaru videos for these installations and I’m prepared to hit the bench with wiring harnesses and accessories/brackets. Do you suggest I throw in an amplifier with all this. Or do you think some of these parts aren’t even necessary to achieve this goal. I’d appreciate any direction. Anyone that’s upgraded their Impreza speakers and reads this lmk too Thanks!
Crossovers are only in-line with the tweeters as the crossovers for the mid-bass are mounted to the magnet of the speaker. The Type R tweeters have a small crossover you'd connect between the speaker and the harness adapter.

@@ProvoBeastAudio i got 2022 crosstrek limited.. i got 8"in stock radio with no nav and no amp. I just wondering if i put sa same speaker on my car, will it work, will it have enough power to drive the component speaker? Thanka
@@TheJeof1000...if you have the 6-speaker audio configuration, I personally think these Type-R Alpines are too much speaker for the factory hu. The larger 8"screen is an upgrade, but unless you can confirm HK/non-HK, the non-HK maybe possibly puts out 25w rms (max). Find speakers that have an operating range of 5w-40w rms (to work with the factory hu) and has a high sensitivity (90+) so it retain some bass capability. The Type-R used here really need an aftermarket amp pumping 75w+/ch for them to perform as designed. Good luck in your speakers quest. Don't overspend based on brand "reputation".
I just ordered JBL 601CF speakers for my 2016 Subaru Crosstrek. Would I need to connect the crossover to the component speakers too? or would using the stock wiring harness on just the component speakers and the crossover for just the tweeters work? The component speaker doesn't have a crossover built on it. Thanks
If the speakers require a crossover, you must install the crossover. This is why we chose this speaker type as the crossovers are inline which makes for an easy install.
Why would Subaru not have the speaker wire harness coming from inside the door to connect to the back of the speaker the wire from the speaker has to go underneath the speaker gasket from inside the panel to outside doesn't make any sense I would cut that connection drill a hole put a grommet around it add wire to it so the factory speaker wire is coming from inside the door to connect to the back of the speaker harness you don't want front sound waves mixing with rear sound waves a gap as small is a sixteenth of an inch can affect sound sometimes dramatically sometimes the engineering corks with Subaru are a little irritating despite that stupid thing love both of my Subaru 2011 Forester and 2002 Impreza Outback great great cars
If it bothers you that much, use some "flex seal" or other sealant to block/fill the gap where the wires exit the outer ring. Subaru is in the car manufacturing business and finds the most efficient way to assemble cars. This does not mean that the cars are engineered logically or perfectly for every sub system. Subarus across the board are assembled this way to keep costs down.
Thanks for the video. I have just one blown speaker driver door for 2011 lagecy outback limited with harmon/kardon kit. What do you suggest for the replacement 6.5 only?
What is the impedance of the old speaker (ohms)? Are you using the factory hu and amp? What is the output in watts of said amp? Is there a p/n on the old speaker? Might as well replace both front door speakers since one is blown and the good factory won't sound the same as the replacement (always replace in pairs).
This has some good info but definitely does not apply to newer models. 2018 crosstreks (and impreszas I would imagine) have 6×9 front door speakers. You should fix title
Sooo, is it possible you made a mistake for the door speaker fit adapter? When I click on that one, it says it's for 2016 and up, and it looks completely different from the ones you have in the video.
The correct mount for the front doors is Metra 82-8901. Now, Metra actually does not have an official mount for the rear, but some people found that the 82-8148 may fit for the rear, as it fits for a lot of toyota's, impreza, and crosstrek. If not, then you can go with the rear mount that was mentioned by the video for the rear on this channel. Very informative content
I assume with those higher end speakers, you would suggest to add an amp right? I can’t imagine the receiver could power those properly. Thoughts? Thks
Absolutely. We are pushing about 100 watts RMS each speaker from our amplifier. A factory radio puts out about 10-15 watts RMS each speaker, and aftermarket about 15-25 watts RMS. Most circumstances, your speakers will sound much better and crisper with more power.
I don't understand how you guys can claim this video is good for 2 totally different generations of Impreza. How does this apply to the current gen Impreza?
Those speakers look, spec wise, too good for the factory hu. 100w rms on the replacement is about 75w rms more than the factory hu puts out. Also, what was the sensitivity of the new 100w rms speakers? Unless you have plans to pumps 80-100w to the front speakers w/an aftermarket amp, those Alpines are way way overkill. Nothing worse than grossly underpowering a speaker.
Man, the factory OEM speakers are absolute garbage. I replaced them in my 2016 crosstrek with Rockford Fosgate speakers, and the difference is night and day!!
Looks like the speaker brackets called for your WRX are the Scosche SAGMEQ656 Speaker Mounting Brackets and the Metra 72-8104 harness adapters. Speakers will fit great!
They will fit, but these alpine Type-R are too much for the factory hu. Your factory hu might output 10w-20w/ch, so it is best to choose a speaker that is closer to that rms value and has a high sensitivity (90+). That way the factory hu can push them appropriately unlike these Alpines that really need/require an aftermarket amp. Think kicker CS or DS series or the infinity es/ex series)
