IMO this game is not made for snipers to fit in. Way too dynamic game for positioning kilometers away. Kinessa fit in when game had bigger maps what don't exist anymore.
I think the old Eagle eye change was because they wanted to follow the talent pattern of each talent is based of 1 of the champion's ability. For example, Steady aim talent already modifies her base sniper rifle which is already the same as the old eagle eye. The only champion I could think of that still has a talent that doesn't follow this pattern is Torvald's Thank's grandpa and field study
Honestly leave her base kit weak but add the instant teleport as built in. Make the mines mark and give a tiny slow but no damage. Then give talents that really define gameplay style. One that buffs her sniper mode with the faster charge rate for the few sniper maps. One that buffs the carbine so she can be more of a flank with the teleport and one for a battlerifle style like the eagle eye , for damage style in non sniper maps
I've never been good at snipping. So i dont really have experiance with her. But it would be great if Reposition was in basekit. Than replaced with 2 charges on teleport, 12% slower movment for 1.3s after teleport, 2s addes ro cooldown and the card in her deck that makes the travel time faster; replaced with cooldown reduction Or a card that gives up to 200hp shield after TP.
Being a Kinessa main for DPS, here are some things you could do to fix her: -Work the Reposition talent into her base kit, maybe half the effect and throw it into her base kit so it's not too much. Make Reposition talent something else that helps her teleport in some way. She already has the Beam Me Up card, which already increases her flight speed by 10% per tier, so if you still want a faster teleport, you can still incorporate this card into a build. This is her biggest issue with being able to 1v1 flanks with her other 2 talents and lacking the ability to peel for herself (her movement ability being too slow at base), whether this is to help her retreat or teleport in towards her team if she also needs help. She needs to be able to do this faster. -More carbine damage would be amazing, as would a bit of a faster charge for her shots, both of these would be great. They should revert the carbine nerf and go halfsies on the charge, this would be good for her. I can't stress enough how hard it is to fight almost any flank in a 1v1 with ult up on carbine and 9 out of 10 times I still lose against them even though I'm hitting almost all my shots on them. -I think her first talent needs to be changed into something else, I actually rarely ever use this talent. Make it a talent that's for carbine and sniper mode combined instead. I think Oppression is by far a much better and more useful talent than Steady Aim is in its current state, and I think it's Kinessa's weakest talent. With how dominant flanks have become within the meta, her first talent is just not viable playing as a sitting duck. While it's very strong, it's impractical to have it work in most games, even when she has a map and comp advantage. I know the majority of people like to say Oppression is trash, but it's simply not. There's so much that you can do with Oppression, especially in terms of scouting and knowing where enemies are, or even just getting extra chip damage to help you farm up ult charges. They can also be a great tool to help out with flanking if you know how to place them properly and have very good game sense like that. You can really capitalize heavily with good placement of these and in combination with the anti-heal mechanic for enemies that are in anti-heal. While people get annoyed fighting against it, it's really nowhere near as annoying when you come across someone who knows how to make use of the talent properly and who is actually good at using it. You don't really see anyone really running it because they haven't played the talent enough or are just told it's bad when it's not. The other thing that I will say is that fully charged shots on Kinessa aren't everything, flick shots and lesser charged shots are honestly very important, especially learning approximately how much damage Kinessa can do with x amount of charge. More skilled and high-level Kinessa players will really understand what I'm talking about, but being able to apply anti-heal while still putting out damage is very important in some scenarios. Also, for finishing blows, being able to do enough damage to finish someone off with so much charge can be very game-changing. This is more of a tip for Kinessa, but yeah. If you want to become a good Kinessa and begin mastering her, learning her charge-to-damage ratio is important, as is building muscle memory of that.
I agree with all that but I would like to add also that her weapon zoom is too high. I think it was around 2-3 years ago where they added almost 2x more zoom into her scope, decreasing her FOV tremendously. Actually it would be nice if it was something more like the AWP in Counter strike where you have 2 zoom levels. Maps in paladins are mostly so small that you would rarely need the zoom that Kinessa has right now. It would really help with dealing enemies in mid range better, improve the field of view a lot while scoped in so you can see more of what is happening and avoid getting tunnel visioned too much when waiting for shots to charge up. Strix doesn't have this problem since he can easily quick scope and will generally spend a lot less time scoped in than Kinessa will.
you know, i miis when kinessa was able to teleport to weird high grounds, but know even place you would think you should be able to stand in you just slide like it was ice
I used to main her in the good old days, until the zoom change happened. I can't quite adapt to that, i can't duel flanks like before so i switch sniper to Strix. Have not played her seriously for like 3 years.
i'd make the carabine have the same dps as the sniper rifle - although with different firerates, slightly higher than now. make the teleport so that it needs to be preplaced, and visible to enemies, sorta like dredge. make her mines explosive with 3 charges by default. make her ult to ignore walls, but no reveal. give her a talent that lets her have 2 teleporters that she can transfer to at will, with no cooldown, but make her literally 1 shot. giver her a talent that gives you a bigger radius of explosion for the mines, and also when you reactivate the ability the mines stops in the air, you can shoot the mines for an even bigger blast radius and damage. or leave them hovering until triggered. and a talent that lets you teleport to your last shot target. give her some cards with some health and DR, some cards that influence damage based on how you switch between carabine and sniper, or how often you teleport. idk what this will do, but damn it sounded fun in my head. :))
Hey Andrew, you forgot to mention that her scope speed was also nerfed by removing prodigy effect and putting only 60% into her base kit; they also should revert the zoom nerf from 2018 (might have been a buff for people with bad aim, who shouldn't main kinessa to begin with) which made her own mobility slower and her far more vulnerable to high mobility flanks too. 2nd big drawback you forgot to mention is that when high firing rate champs (Tyra, Lex, Talus, Khan etc...) pressure her, she gotta hit reliable shots while being in earthquake mode. It's nearly impossible to hit reliably at this point. Adding mixed queues and basically making those bs champs meta worsened this problem a lot, and due to her charge time, she can't afford to miss as many shots as strix.
Console. Nessa was the first champ I hit level 50 on. I just make my cards focus around the mines distance and targets, get kill to hill, moral boost, deft hands and haven. A good keyboard flank ruins me regardless of champ so it's always been the same for me. As long as I have flanks and a good dps champ who uses an automatic weapon, I run to point. Throw my mines high. Teleport out and then snipe around. Deft hands helps with fighting flanks + moral boost propping off the mines so often helps too. She ain't great but you can snowball her into an annoying semi flank semi heavy hitter.
I have no opinion on Nessa but i am glad to hear you enjoyed the half life series. I too saw the documentary and i was around 1000 years ago for it's release. Ground breaking games at the time. I still have the original half life on my steam account from way back when steam was in beta and half life mods were the only thing on steam. Yeah I'm old
I play overwatch and you definitely don’t want snipers to be mera in a 5v5. Getting one shotted by Hanzo and Widow outta nowhere without getting time to respond is not fun
Honestly you don't need to buff Kinessa, you just need to nerf the flanks. So many of them are just absurd right now, especially Caspian. Imagine making a flanker with that much damage who can have a hard stun on a 5 second cooldown. Devs are smoking crack.
To be fair, no one likes playing against snipers on sniper maps. It's miserable being on frog isle and not being able to be in the open for one second because there is a cracked Kinessa on the enemy team and you brought no counters.

Good, sniper just feel very out of place in a game with magic, dragons, and furries. Also in any game it never feels good to be insta killed out of nowhere. It's just not a fun game interaction
imo if we reduce her zoom in by at least half if not flat out reverse it to what it used to be and give her more than 1 usable talent she will be fine as she is. altough her charge rate is so doodoo that even vik can outdps her long range which is kinda funny if you think about it. But the change to scope zoom would at least help her play into flanks and smaller maps im not saying she's bad into flanks but for the amount of effort she requires to duel vatu/meave you might as well pick any other dps champ and dont have to sweat your pants off to 1v1 them like you would with nessa sure its doable but why bother sweating and keeping track of everything when you can pick sha/cassie/lian and do the same stuff but better. Her cards are fine. imo her biggest nerf was the scope zoom i can even overlook the charge time increase since with nessa you gotta be scoped in 95% of the time and have solid game awareness to hear flanks coming for you while strix is still strix takes 0 effort can peek for free and can quick scope.

Atleast Kinessa requires some skill to be played properly so a little buff would be fine. But Strix must stay in a coffin for ever. Most toxic champion ever imo

You do know her scope isn't fast as it used to be right? so you're weak against flanks and shields. But against flanks you'd have to go the teleport talent. Also she requires major good awareness. And honestly snipers can somewhat flank in mid range behind walls or teammates.
If anything, both snipers being off-meta keeps the game less toxic.

I haven’t been playing long but maybe make a talent that makes the traps reveal the enemy or make it where her ult could go through barriers.

Buff her sniper from 1200 to 1300. Buff the Carbine from 170 to 180. Increase her zoom speed by 10%.

Snipers definitely belong in FPS games
The only reason i played this game is how fun the snipers felt to play. You can't just disappoint a lot of players just because YOU dislike it.

You are genuinely lying if you're saying you think snipers have any place in mid-close range hero shooters, I refuse to believe anyone is that stupid.
Sha-lin, kinessa, and strix are all characters I wish had the same pick rate as pre-buff kasumi. Genuinely there is zero fun to be had in counter-playing snipers bc they're either being protected by 3 players or throwing, there would be nothing but good to come out of removing them from the game entirely, or from ranked at least.

You do know her scope isn't fast as it used to be right? so you're weak against flanks and shields. But against flanks you'd have to go the teleport talent. Also she requires major good awareness. And honestly snipers can somewhat flank in mid range behind walls or teammates.
Idk, I say make snipers strong but take away their aimassist, kinda like how cod handles them
