I believe that an after market trailer hitch can be added to the Pilot. Just be aware that the AWD is rated for a 5,000lb tow... the 2WD is only rated for 3,000 lbs tow...
Why did Honda copy the rear end of the Subaru Ascent? It's almost like the front doesn't match the back. The stowable center seat from the middle row is great.

Beautiful and handsome SUV. Very rugged and boxy!! Good job Honda. I will buy this over the Telluride in a heart beat! Until they figure out why there cars keep catching fire and the fact that teenagers can steal there cars in less than 20 seconds (Tiktok challenge) no way!!!!!! I remember Hyundai and KIA when they first came to the USA, and they were pure junk. Hondas have always been good cars since the beginning.
Clearly you must be really young because Hondas were junk as well when they first arrived in America so was Toyota or you must be really old if you think Honda is still “reliable”, yes Honda reliability improved vastly in the 80s,90s and 2000s but modern Honda quality and reliability isn’t even that good anymore in fact its equivalent to Nissan now, now Honda is using their past reputation to sell mediocre cars to clueless consumers

@@titaniumspecial4207 My previous vehicle was a 2007 MDX. I drove a 2023 MDX for a week before buying the Pilot. In Elite trim, I can say that Honda went the distance to create a quiet interior, which was a point of emphasis for me, along with sound system quality. BTW, the Bose system, while not at the level of the Acura ELS, also acquits itself well. What kind of lighting issues are you concerned about? The headlights on this Pilot are quite strong. Dashboard? No problems with the digital dash.
The new AWD system makes it fun to drive. Granted it is a SUV and a couch on wheels, but it keeps you planted. Other reviewers say it rides, handles and brakes better than Toyota and KIA. Only wish, they put the power tilt/telescoping steering wheel in the Elite. I can live without it to get a better driving experience.
Telluride certainly have more tech and luxury features but Honda's AWD with torque vectoring blows kia out of the park. Pilot has the same SH-AWD that you get in Acura and the drive quality is way better. Surprised how this review lacks technicality and seems like am everyday Joe picking cars.
Honda has built their reputation over a long period of time. They deserve such praises but it is too a fact that Korean twins deliver more than what you pay for compared to what competitors do at a given price and their low quality reputations are also in the past. I will take either of them just fine.
Without a doubt you get more stylish vehicles, but in no way are the motors and drive systems comparable to Honda. Do some research on the motors in the Korean twins and they are riddled with issues and older motor designs. Honda reliablility can't be beat.
maybe they make something that is not just adequate they would get new people buy them . owned lots of hondas but need more power maybe make it fun to drive lots of money
Pilot and passport are designed just for very light off road. In my opinion I still love the 2022 model. If you want to go off road get a Jeep lol . Off road for rough road
Not a tough choice when you consider Honda is way more reliable than a Kia that more than likely won't make it over $60,000 miles without having a problems major problems
You evidently aren't aware of the VCM engine and ZF-9 transmission issues on the previous gen Pilot. Honda isn't what they used to be, and neither is Kia.
@@nuvue3843 It most certainly does have VCM which is Honda's term for cylinder deactivation. There was no CVT, the troublesome transmission was the ZF-9 speed. Telluride and Palisade are not affected by the theft issue, insurance is not a problem.
@@plmn93as a technician, I couldn’t agree more. Lot of people here who can’t think for themselves talk shit about Korean cars and other manufacturers. Hondas and Toyotas have their own problems, not mention the chronic blown head gaskets and oil leaks that leaks directly onto electrical components on Hondas. The days when Hondas were far more reliable than other manufacturers are done and over.
I love the exterior look of the Honda Pilot better than the Kia Telluride. But reliability is the #1 priority for me. And both vehicles have high marks in reliability.
@Technologically Challenged Tech You’re wrong about the resale. Just look at what a used telluride is going for. Your paying more than you would knew but on a used pilot you’re paying much less. Also reliability on Hondas of page has been subpar. This coming from a current Acura owner that switched from Hyundai. Have owned a Honda and an Acura and have owned 2 Hyundais. Both of my Hyundais were much more reliable.
@@brittoncoil2518 Yeah, between VCM and the 9 speed transmission on the previous Pilot, Honda's reliability reputation isn't what it used to be. Assuming this brand new drivetrain will be more reliable than Kia's is not only naïve, it's pure fanboyism. Maybe it will be, but I wouldn't bet on it.
@@nuvue3843 Yes there is VCM/cylinder deactivation on this Pilot and the old troublesome transmission was a 9 speed. Beware fanboys of any type, buy with caution.

THIS PILOT TRAIL UNIT IS PRETTY HOT ! AND I REALLY LIKE THE V-6 ENGINE , HONDA WAS EXTREMELY SMART TO NOT USE A TURBO 4 CYLINDER ENGINE . THE HIGHWAY UNIT REALLY IS NICE SO IT WOULD BE A TOUGH DECISION , TO SAY THE LEAST !.
Great review. Now, let's be realistic.....how many people are taking their $50K SUV off-road? NOBODY! Is this Honda pilot a Telluride killer? They are both so similar. I think Honda will have a better resale value than KIA, but KIA offers a better new warranty 10/100K vs 3/36. When Mazda releases the CX-90, this will go head to head. Honda's reliability will sell more of these than the Telluride. When the Telluride launched, it came in very affordable, now because of its popularity, the dealers are gauging customers by adding a dealer markup of $5-$10K!
I'm really good with the new Pilot. I liked the previous Pilot but they just didn't look rugged enough, I guess I like the boxier look, going back to the 1st and 2nd gen Pilots. This newest Pilot is a great styling direction. I would definitely choose Honda over the Palisade/Telluride twins. The luxury appointments of the Koreans are very nice but not enough for me to not choose the Honda.
The Telluride has the better interior but I am still not sure about Hyundai/Kia quality when it comes to their engines and transmissions. The narrator did not mention the Toyota Highlander either. The Highlander looks like it may have more interior tech and comfort than the Honda and we all know that Toyota makes a quality product also. If I were to pick one for conveniences, comfort, and options, I would pick the Palisades $52K that would blow this Honda away. Reliability would make me leant towards the Highlander and the Pilot. Nissan isn't even in the hunt for me as they have had massive problems with their quality under their parent company.
The previous Pilot looked like a lifted minivan. This one looks better but Honda could've done more with the styling in my opinion. It looks very plain and appliance like if that makes sense
That's the issue people are just not doing their homework on is all the motor issues Kia and Hyundai have. Honda without a doubt has great motors!@@BlackXinu
Great review! I agree with you about the info screen being relatively small by todays’ SUV standards. Unfortunately Honda, a company that once lead the way is once again woefully behind in not offering a Hybrid (as Toyota has done for years with the Highlander) let alone other EV variants. This, to me is indicative of Honda’s total lack on innovation and bone-headed moves over the last 10 years. Not having a viable hybrid line (compared to Toyota) is one example, another is when they discontinued the Crosstour. I had a 2012 Crosstour (leased) and I really liked it. Yes the cargo area was hampered by the antiquated strut-towers, but overall it was a great design. And just when they got rid of it in comes similar hatchback sedans from BMW, Mercedes, Audi and others (and really the Teslas) all have which are still around and sell reasonably well. I have leased seven Hondas since 2002. Two Accords, two Acuras, two Pilots (my current a 2020) and a 2012 Crosstour which I really liked. I also had a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica which was excellent and the most versatile vehicle I ever had. When the lease was up on that in summer of 2020 Honda had some great deals. I looked at the Odyssey but the fact yips still have to lug out the 2nd row seats to enlarge the cargo space (unlike the wonderful stowaway seats of the Pacifica) I passed and got a Pilot. It’s a solid SUV, but again nothing that really stands out. The gas mileage is woeful though and there’s a lot of highway wind noise. I am glad they going back to a more rugged design but unless they get a hybrid by next summer when my lease expires I’m off to Toyota for a hybrid Highlander.
And that new 2024 Grand Highlander looks pretty sweet! That’s going to give Honda a run for their money. I’m going with the Pilot Elite because I needed a roomy 3 row that can tow 5k and fit in my garage like yesterday. (I put a reservation in and now am just waiting.)
Dang people really rent cars for that long?? I’m genuinely curious how one can decide to lease cars for that long? Maybe it’s for business? Are there financial benefits to that?
Honda over Kia all day. Not even close. Reliably and resale, Honda and Toyota always win
Kia Telluride statistically hold the highest value in its class. Look it up on the Annual Risidual Awards 2022/2023.

I would have to go with the new pilot it looks better in my opinion than the telluride. I have 2004 pilot have had it since new and it has 204k and not a single problem. So pilots a win for me
Agreed!
Starting twenty seven thousand? Where do I sign up for that sweet deal?
My choice:
1. Pilot (because the middle seat can be removed)
2. Telluride
3. Grand highlander (it has smaller 3rd row than the above 2).
Runner-ups:
Palisade
Atlas (super unreliable but I had it on my list)
My wishlist for this Pilot: a traditional shifter and a hybrid version. With this said I look forward to the review of the Mazda CX90 next week especially the PHEV version. The winner here is definitely the consumers😊
Yes I hate button style
Thank you. This was informative.
What about the gear shift, still an outdated push button?
Excellent review! Thank you.
It seems that tow hitch is only available on the trail sport.
I believe that an after market trailer hitch can be added to the Pilot. Just be aware that the AWD is rated for a 5,000lb tow... the 2WD is only rated for 3,000 lbs tow...
I go for the Pilot if u plan on keeping it a long time. Game Over. I go the Sport or lower models because I'm like many who don't have 50K,
Great review. I’d go for the Honda due to the resale value
Why did Honda copy the rear end of the Subaru Ascent? It's almost like the front doesn't match the back. The stowable center seat from the middle row is great.
Does the engine have a timing chain or belt??
I believe belt.
What is considered the "top trims"
I'm sure the Telluride clicks most of the boxes for a great 3-row SUV, but I REFUSE to pay $8-$10K over MSRP for any vehicle! Are you listening, KIA?
They don't care. Why should they when people are willingly paying it? Toyota dealers are doing the same thing.
@@plmn93 except that paying over MSRP for a Toyota is a stupid idea. Paying over MSRP for a kia is far better because you get a better quality car than Toyota
You do know Kia doesn't have any control on the ridiculous overcharges some dealers are putting on vehicles right?
@@zigzig5126 Yes, they do. Both Ford and GM have cracked down on dealer markups while Kia, Hyundai, Honda, and Toyota apparently encourage it.
@@plmn93 "they" might don't care, but "they" are every dealer who currently have a somewhat "desirable" products, like Chevy to their Corvette, Honda with the Civic, etc
Still laughing at "gutting a fish back here" haha, awesome!
How is the front seat for tall drivers ?
I'm 6ft. 4in. I have plenty of head room to even wear a cowboy hat, but not my thing.
Is this engine gdi?
No, it doesn’t have turbo and other features, still naturally aspirated
Beautiful and handsome SUV. Very rugged and boxy!! Good job Honda. I will buy this over the Telluride in a heart beat! You get Hondas legendary reliability, more masculine design and the fact that they've made a version of this that can go off road with skid plates. It's a no brainer! I'm still not sold on Hyundai and KIA vehicles.
@@joskjj3625 Let me correct you, I am not young. Not a teeny bopper! My comments are based on my opinions and experience. Everything I said is subjective! It's all a matter of opinion. My opinion is Honda cars are better than Hyunda and KIA! Again, it's my opinion and that's ok. You may not agree and that's ok too!
@@sjohnson7879 talk to me when you put miles on a newer Honda, then we will see how “reliable” Honda still is
My thoughts exactly, well said!
There still junk, they've just hired European car designers, to mask the horrible powertrains. There is a reason they had to come up with the gimmicky 100k mile warranty, they couldn't get customers I'm the door without it. Honda & Toyota could do the same thing, but didn't need too they proved their products were the best mechanically built.
No Fish Gutting? I was waiting for that scene! 😅
Unrelated but your shades, I want them.
Jus sayin. Very good suv and as always excellent review.
Garrett Leight Clune. I’m also an eyewear snob! Thanks for watching!
🤣🤣🖐 1:05 …”plastic fender that might come in handy for off roading..” 😂 it will snap off in 5 seconds! Less than 1% of drivers use their suv or pickup off roading. But they might. 😂🤣 good review overall !!
Just bought a Pilot Elite, and it's excellent!
Still like it?
@@michaelshelnutt3534 Yep. I drove it a 3+ hundred miles over the weekend, and no complaints. Roomy, comfy, and sporty handling for a vehicle this size.
31 MPG?
Great review.
I have an ‘07 Pilot with 243,000 miles. She’s still going strong, but if and when she’s done serving her time I’m definitely looking at one of these
Pilot trail sport 💯 just left their dealer in Pasadena. Much better in person 👍
You fail to mention ground clearance
The acronym is “SUV” not eshuvee. Otherwise great review.
Telluride certainly have more tech and luxury features but Honda's AWD with torque vectoring blows kia out of the park. Pilot has the same SH-AWD that you get in Acura and the drive quality is way better. Surprised how this review lacks technicality and seems like am everyday Joe picking cars.
Engineering Excellence
They need to offer more engine options, every other manufacturer is giving V8s(Nissan Patrol) or V6 twin turbo (Toyota Land Cruiser)
so the accord civic and pilot all have to same dash. hmmm....
The Pilot would be my choice because the Honda drivetrains and interior pieces are reliable. The Honda dealers are as good as any.
Since I want off-pavement performance, the Pilot Trailsport dominates.
lol a honda civic can go off pavement. if you actually want to go off road, get a toyota.
@@danm3340 exactly, Toyota is much better
@@danm3340 A Toyota what highlander? The 4runner ride quality is not the same as the pilot for on road and smaller interior.
No, a Tacoma or Tundra for off road, higher clearance.
@@johnappleseed9290 Also a higher chance of a busted engine and transmission. Have fun with the recalls!
Yes, i love the more rugged looking...
Wifi ?
This is weird! The starting price is $27k? Isn't that the starting price of their smallest SUV?
That's s oughta help my car review obsession
The pilot trailsport is my next 3row fam suv
Honda, when will you get rid of the stupid VCM technology and auto start/stop?
This gen doesn’t have vcm
maybe they make something that is not just adequate they would get new people buy them . owned lots of hondas but need more power maybe make it fun to drive lots of money
They should have put a rear entertainment system. I think this model year doesn't have it.
Naturally aspirated Honda V6 suv...Yes please
High miles : yes, please😊
I will take a Honda over a kia anyday😉
rear side window is a copy of the ford explorer.... looks good.
Looks like a 2nd gen boxy Pilot with the body colored c-pillars and squared windows.
Pilot and passport are designed just for very light off road. In my opinion I still love the 2022 model. If you want to go off road get a Jeep lol . Off road for rough road
It went back to the 1997 style 🙂
Not a tough choice when you consider Honda is way more reliable than a Kia that more than likely won't make it over $60,000 miles without having a problems major problems
Yet, Kia sells more cars than honda, lol.
@@K-SD-DAD Yeah, in third world countries where people are expected to buy junk
I love the exterior look of the Honda Pilot better than the Kia Telluride. But reliability is the #1 priority for me. And both vehicles have high marks in reliability.
@Technologically Challenged Tech
You’re wrong about the resale.
@@nuvue3843 Either you don't know what VCM is or you're making stuff up. Read Honda's press kit for the '23 Pilot, that will spell it out for you. They still use VCM. Why you would deny something so easy for everybody to look up is beyond me.
This pilot is actually very good looking. Honda's are growing old and needed new blood.
You have to take the name into account and by far Honda takes over the Tellluride
I like the new look.
I think the Telluride interior is way more luxurious, though I haven't been inside the Pilot myself (I have been in the Telluride.)
Makes no sense to say the Telluride is way more luxurious and then admit you have not been inside the Pilot...
Have fun with replacing the engine on that Kia. What a garbage company
That's the issue people are just not doing their homework on is all the motor issues Kia and Hyundai have. Honda without a doubt has great motors!@@BlackXinu
Honda. Trailhead = digital rearview & bigger console screen. 8” is too small, give the trailhead same screen size as top model please
Bring back vtec then this Honda is the best
