I live in North Carolina. I fell in love with Sunderland the city and Sunderland AFC like many Americans, watching the show on Netflix. O'Nien is my favorite player because he enjoys playing every minute like a kid. I respect that. Cheers to all the lads and supporters of this great club and city.

I was in a taxi in Westminster and the driver started talking about football and said son had just got into the first team at Watford. I said Luke O’Nien and he was shocked I knew who he was talking about.
I add a caveat I don’t know if he just said yes when I said Luke but as a Watford fan I knew he had just got into first team.

A credit to his parents, a credit to Sunderland football club and a credit to his profession one of the nicest people in the game. All young future " stars" should look at this lad. After all of the mercanaries and charletons we have had over the past years it's refreshing to see a lad who buys into what it is all about.

I also put Luke in the same category as the likes of Kevin Ball and Len Ashurst.
Hello, I'm a Sunderland fan from Portugal (and FC Porto fan) and I have a huge respect from Luke O'Nien. He got so much heart and soul, he for me represents Sunderland. In the documentary Sunderland Til I Die he said that one of his dreams was to play on the Premier League and I hope that his dream come true and he play there with Sunderland. Even if Sunderland could not get the playoffs and have a chance this Season to get back to the Premier, I sincerely hope that Next Season you return to the place where you belong. I love this club. What a guy. Me and the family used to actually get tickets to the players lounge through Luke. We used to talk away to him and he was so enthusiastic to speak to, brilliant lad.
Covid put a stop to that unfortunately but we'll never forget the memories.

There’s no doubt in my mind that when Luke finally retires he will become a great TV pundit, his love of the game and his eloquence talking about it, is just made for television.

My fav Sunderland player, my kids know who he is, just have to say to them you know Luke 09 who made that quality tackle late on when we went to Wembley and they like yeah he was brilliant. Luke bleeds red and white and a pleasure to have a player and legend like him playing for us. Hopefully he plays for us till he retires in many years time and then becomes a coach for us.
