Courier driving often is not typical driving. The constant stops and starts in an ice van can result in about half to a third of typical fuel economy. If the BYD van is up to the job and charging is not an issue it will be a game changer. It certainly seems likely that the opposition will use fear uncertainty and doubt as a marketing tool to keep selling their product. Interesting times ahead.
Electric milk delivery vans in UK and postal delivery vans in US for years now. A lot of postal deliveries now in Oz and NZ being done on electric 3 wheel scooters. They can even pull small party cel trollies!
EVs get better mileage at slower speeds, and use very little energy at "idle," so frequent stops should be no issue, especially for delivery vehicles that stay within regional limits. The superiority of EVS is about to burst through most lingering ICE resistance, and even cowboys will come around after a ride or test drive. The BYD van will have NO problem handling its routes and usage.
I' not a courier or a tradie, but I have been working in the transport industry for over 30years !! At $35k AUD or $39k NZD this is a "Take my money moment" I will use this van as my daily runner :) Super Game Changer !!
Totally agree about the lack of homework & research done by some people Sam. I live in regional Qld & am planning to have a serious look at the BYD Tang when it gets here. I am older and vividly recall the negativity about Japanese cars in the 60s. Quality process came about & the same is happening with China. Like you said - be smart! ✌
I agree 1000%. I work in the Gig economy as food delivery driver & package 📦 delivery driver. This van is a savior to me now let's see if I can have one delivered to Colorado 🇺🇸
I agreed. EV utility van is perfect for Amazon, UPS...short hops, instant torque for stop/go. Quiet, less wear-tear on driver too. I hate the bolts-in-a-can noise and cancerous fumes from service vans that run in my neighborhood.
Wow Sam, I knew that it the target price for BYD's EA1 was under AU$35,000 and thought that if that could be pulled off that it would be a game changer. If you're right though and starting prices are under $30,000, it'll and absolute ccertainty to be the game changer. EDIT: What I've seen and read lately about the Chinese manufacturers, not just BYD, exciting times are just around the corner (months not years). A lot of the legacy manufacturers are in trouble now.
As a service company that is a game changer. We had the Toyota Townace before and it was the ideal size for the job. $35k is a high km 2018 Ford transit custom or Vito. I was in China in 2007 when BYD who made batteries for Nokia said we are going to make cars. I laughed and looked at them and they were rubbish at the time. EV was not a market then but that is where the battery knowledge is from, by accident, they timed getting into cars just right. I take BYD taxis well you have to in Shenzhen and the quality has improved heaps. Charging is a problem but that is been fixed. There is a saying Shenzhen speed these guys are competitive and hungry. You are lucky the Chinese government like the Australian is quite useless, otherwise every industry would be stuffed outside China.
Don’t ever waste your or my time on talking or thinking about idiots. But you are correct assuming that this is a game changer. I know because Our family owns three Model S cars from 2014 and 2015 with almost 300.000 km on each.
thx for the great video. T3 with 300km range looks really cool.. About BY battery test, Blade don't give any spark, fire or over heart over 60 deg C and power drops very slowly in needle test. I believe the battery on the test bench is NEC cell and for comparison for the blade. ..
Check out BYD DM-i Ultra hybird platform that was introduced in January. Its been fitted into Song plus, Qin plus and Tang models. Waiting list is now 3.5 months with 100k orders to fulfil. Its the hybird thats is booming for BYD.
I have a couple of Ford Transits and a Nissan NV200. This vehicles looks like it would compete will with those. Specs are @ 9:28 for those of you who are tired of waiting. 300 kilometer range or about 180 miles isn't great range. Also, my concern is, how fast can I charge this at a 120v outlet, which is USA standard. Biggest concern is where and how long it will take to charge. The range is good enough for shorter routes if you can quickly put 100 miles back on the battery or even charge that much overnight. Next question, where do you get this vehicle serviced? I look forward to being able to buy electric vans in the US soon. Hopefully, range will be better. I would pay more for longer range version.
The US Car market is not about the environment , fuel economy or consumer demand. All of that is quickly squashed by special interest groups. This has been going on since Henry Ford proposed an EV car.
Great info - didn't know about Mercedes. Would be great for the image. As they also produce their own chip, they have also an advantage on this part. EA1 will be great entry model also for younger people to pimp.
Australia post should jump all over these, perfect for post delivery if the capacity is close to Ford transit .sorry didn't do a Google search to check.
Sam, I really hope that the BYD introduction goes well and is successful here but have you any insight into the expected crash test ratings for either their older designT3 or the up to date model EA1. Strikes me a good score will be necessary to succeed. Cheers Gary
What’s your nationality? Australian? I live in Fremont, California, United States. 15 minutes from Tesla main factory. Wonder if I can buy a BYD and ship to my house?
The cheapest byd ev in China is e2 and only costs 20000 aud. It is most popular rental car in China. The cheapest ev is wuling mini which costs less than 5000 aud and out sell Tesla Model 3 by a huge margin since it launched last year.
Just Tweeted BYD Europe to see when I can buy one in the uk. It’s human nature for a lot of people not to do the cost of ownership maths themselves. Best to include it in your videos with simple graphics
Agree. BYD are a very impressive company, even more vertically integrated than Tesla. At the end of the day, people will choose price over tech such as auto-summon, super-charging etc etc. It’s all about to kick off !
I wonder why governments and the automotive industry have not allowed for range extenting generators as an option for those that need more range than EV's have. For someone that needs high range and quick refueling, this solution would allow for some models having smaller and cheaper batteries, while still having unlimited range. For many that would allow for a majority of miles being electric and still having reserve when needed. There are many advantages to an electric, yet too many situations are not workable for an EV.
Warren Buffet very much into BYD. I have NYD batteries on my farm .Hyundai are already using their batteries in China. Put up a carport for you can and cover it with panels. Plug iwhenever back at the premises
T3 van information available by going to evdirect.com.au and click on the T3 Van heading in the top right corner. You can register there for a test drive of the T3 van. Test drives start on the 22nd of July and they will bring a T3 van to you to test drive.

mg was bought by SAIC, largest car manufacturer in China. Mg brand is re-introduced as an Ev brand in Europe and doing great.

That’s true!! But the Wuling EV is actually a quadracycle, not a car.
Toyota's advantages better ergonomics? and longevity? like corrosion are 2 Qs I want to see answered before spending $s.
Any rumours of a LWB for this vehicle? I'm thinking of a possible conversion into a campervan.
Thats what I am interestedin doing as well, using the cars battery to power accessories that would normally use solar.
Byd is the gift that keeps giving.
Im still interested. But not under 35k and not...soon?
Will BYD bring down a passenger van like the Nissan NV 3500SL
It looks like this briefly came onto the market, left, and now you can only get a slightly used one for ~$50k including all costs?

The company I work for is looking to get 2. I can't find a UK price but I bet its nearer £40k than the $35k which I think is £17ish

Hi John. Most of my portfolio is in Tesla, the rest is in BYD. Both companies will gain massive market share by 2030.

It stands to reason Chinese EV vehicles will be as popular as Japanese or Korean ICE models in 10 years time
Warren Buffet owns 10% of the company. The company founder said that he regrets selling that much of the company so early...lol.
They all say that; but it isn’t usually a choice , I think the founders did well to hold onto what they have.
That's way cheaper than in Colombia :(
