Not many know this but the Kaiserliche Marine had their own variant of the C96 commissioned for the navy’s new U-boats known colloquially as the mop handle mauser. The broom handle and the mop handle mauser are so similar in design, adoption, and use that many can’t tell them apart. However the longshoremen and fishermen of the world, known for their accuracy and honesty, are keenly able to tell the landlubber’s c96 from the seaman’s.
The Mauser C96 ended up being kind of an icon of the 1916 Irish Easter Rebellion and the 1919-21 war of independence, we got a lot of weapons from Germany to fight the Brits and it was one of the more popular weapons for its power and versatility
It’s cool to see how close the broom handle was to firearms today even though it was made in the late 1800’s. you already have the slide and just move the magazine into the handle and boom you have the basis of a modern pistol
My C96 is one of my favorite guns, problem is stripper clips are a pain to find as is the ammo. I gotta start loading my own. That and the previous owner of mine didn't take good care of it so the grip frame is pitted pretty bad.
Mauser C96 is designed in the year 1895, in German Empire. Producted: 1896-1937 In service: 1896-1961 This pistol is also used by the Chinese Soldiers during the war. Fun Fact: Mauser C96 has a magazine, the magazine can be released and replaced with a new one.
i genuinly don't know if the Mauser's are still made by some countries anymore, i know the last two known countries to used to keep making them were Spain and China but that's about it (chinese version would probably explode as soon as you pull the trigger), but i don't think they do anymore, i'm not entirely sure
The Chinese copies of C96 pistols made in actual factories by workers under local warlords were actually of decent quality. Handmade ones in small shops, not so much. If I were to guess at to which country if any is still producing C96 Mausers, I'd say the Khyber pass is your best bet, and I wouldn't fire one myself.
Hands down one of the best looking pistols ever made, not to mention how revolutionary it was for the time. It took everything great from the C93 then made it better and more practical. “Ah, the choice of an avid gun collecta. It’s a noice gun, stranga!”

Sailors are of course intimately familiar with the feel of a mop handle due to all of the time they spend cleaning up the seaman stains

Can definitely see the mop handle resemblance in the marine C96.
Great to see the C96 in action!
