Amazing video, I love the miniature breaks concept. It really clarified exactly what you are doing in order to read the map well. I don’t know if it is kosher to mention other content creators here, but I had recently gotten much better at map awareness from watching xfsn saber coaching videos. He focuses on habit based learning and he often has to deal with map awareness issues with his clients. It helped me build habits to fix my map awareness, but this video you created kinda explains the nuts and bolts behind the habits.
If you need a video idea: maybe you could try explaining the champion identity of each midlane champ, bundled in groups of champs, something like roamheavy champs, long range mages etc.
@Nathan Mott We’d kill for a video addressing how to identify the “miniature breaks” in a jungle clear. Things like moving between camps, after casting each ability, etc.
I noticed that one of the main reasons why I sometimes completely neglect the minimap is how much pressure enemy champs is doing. For example, when I play vs a Yasuo I have to super focus on not making mistakes because a simple mistake could mean half of my hp and heavy losing my lane, in that scenario my Minimap Awareness goes to hell. EDIT: Ok seems like he talks about it in 17:19

What do you do if you want to play Draven? I feel like in this scenario, you for the most part have to look at your character, removing focus on the enemy's position, minion HP, and minimap
I wish, back in time we had these kind of infos. I needed to learn all this shit from korean players which were playing in my country at that time and met them in a picnic lol. 3 years from season 5 to 8, i was silver stuck with a fucking monster KDA (like 3.5-4 which is really high if you played at least more then 50 games with a champ) and was so frustrated that i deleted league. Then these Korean heroes started to coach me when we hang out. They showed me some games from Korea (which is the time when i learned there are different leagues, there is faker etc...) and improved me a lot mentally. And im not complainin, but i was expecting smt like "wow man you are good but you do this and this wrong" but instead of this i got more like "NO! NO! NO! DONT FIGHT THERE!!! OMG! YOU ARE SO BAD!!!!" and something similar to those lines every game i play :D Their methods are harsh but they dont do it to harm you, i mean you feel that its not personal and i wanted to improve. So i respected them and let them teach me the game. Then i started to play ranked again for season 9 and boom, i was gold. I had some problems with the Fucked up MMR so they suggested me to create a new account so i did. And after my 10 games i lost 6 of them, was complaining to myself by saying "im still shit, nothing has changed fuck my life" you know usual League critics :P I got placed to Gold 2, FUCKIN GOLD 2. Imagine being stuck for 2.5 years and suddenly got placed to gold 2 after losing most of the placement games... It felt amazing, i got hyped so much that i was playing 10-15 games every day. After that, won some games and again fucking plat for first time in my life. At that point i realised that the game is not about your talent. Seriously, you can argue all night about it, but if a fucking silver stuck for 2.5 years can go to plat that easily, then its just about the makro gaming, and of course your teammates. S10, i was finally Dia and after that point i got bored, every game started to be like a coinflip and i was actually done and satisfied. Now? Guys im fucking done with the league seriously, I dont think i can be challenger and also tbh idc or i dont want to be a challenger. I am playing at gold elo with my friends to have fun and troll picks time to time (twice in a month ot smt) and thats all. I think i dont enjoy the league anymore because its been 6 fucking years LMAO. Enough is enough. TL;DR If you want to climb, just go find some Koreans and let them teach you idk :D
I've started roaming a lot more, and usually it turns out well because I assess how far aherad my laner is, where their jg is etc. But my laner always ends up getting 3 plates cuz my junglers in plat dont catch the wave. If i played a champ like talon it wouldnt be an issue but my control mage is pretty slow
Hello! Thanks for the great content. I'm actually adc in br server, can you make a playlist with the best videos to whatch and apply in bot line? Thanks again.
What do you think about these things in terms of map awareness?: - How strong are you relative to the opponents? Ex: If I have a lead, I may or may not be ganked more going in to mid-game (especially with bounties). - The speed at which you can get ganked/collapsed on? - Abilities and summoners up available to you vs what they have? - Intuition and team positioning (If I push up with no pressure top/bot, then I'll probably get ganked) - Gankability of junglers and MIAs (with and WITHOUT pings) - If the enemies are on your side of the map, what does it mean for your team vs their team advantage? Ex: My bot is smashing theirs, my jg is in bot river, their jg is coming around top river for a gank. I would want to play around with them (if I can be safe) to hold them up there, or make sure I'm aware. There's also nothing like a predator hecarim flying from out of fog nowhere and catching you off guard 'cause you didn't know that was a possibility.
These are all very relevant to assessing the game state and understanding the likelihood of you actually getting ganked or not. Keep in mind though that the best laners while ahead actually WANT to attract attention from the enemy jg but avoid the gank to relieve pressure from side lanes, thats what faker mastered.
Love your vids man, recently found this channel and it helps so much. Joined a team competing in an amateur leauge not long ago and I recommend ur content to all my teammates! I am currently working on my champ pool for soloq, it feels too big. I play Galio, Cassio, Ori, Sylas, Nocturne, Velkoz, Annie. Maybe getting rid of Cassio and Ori since I feel my elo (plat) and Meta is so chaos early/helping jungler early is so key. What do you think? Thanks again! Jake from Norway.
I have this habit of pressing tab and flipping through my f keys whenever I've started the animation to last hit a minion and just look at the map periodically. it's a really short period of time so should I try to assess the map while looking at tab or just ditch that altogether? Also just a funny side story. I was watching Bobqins stream and he was talking about how informational channels don't do well and me and quite a few people in his chat spammed COACH CURTIS and made him acknowledge you :D
It's a good habit to get into if you are able to actively process the information you are seeing, faker is very good at utilizing the f keys, but keep in mind it's not about it 'looking cool' , it's about what the information is informing you to do next Thanks brother
Hy there, indeed what you say fits very well into managing your time window to check for info, but what happens if you are ganged from behind or flanc behind the wall on your side of the lane?
it sounds like coach is saying you can dodge skill shots without seeing your champ, how would you know exactly where to go to dodge just from peripheral vision????
just set an alert that reminds you to watch on minimap every time you hear the sound. After some days you are watching the map like business as usual. There is no magic behind it just psychology
Hey Curtis I absolutely love you videos and I’ve used them for midlaners I like playing casually to get a better understanding of midlaners I like to play but I mainly play adc and I was wondering, do you know a “coach curtis” for adcs? Most of the adc helps I can find are proguides bs. Thanks! Been watching since 20k and imma keep watching
what about hitting tab for info when is that good to do and what type of info are you looking for when hitting tab and i like to know what you think of using F1-F5 to get info that looking at your map can't over looking at map odds you want to do the 2 but how to do that because you need to do 1 thing at time f keys give you hp of cs and how lane is pushing/ being played hp/mana of their laner and sometime you get sums/ults what can help you but map tells you if someone on a ward

What do you do if you want to play Draven? I feel like in this scenario, you for the most part have to look at your character, removing focus on the enemy's position, minion HP, and minimap
2 minutes in and its hit home
Better than pro guides
WOO!!! Thx coach .
TL;DR
If you want to climb, just go find some Koreans and let them teach you idk :D
I've started roaming a lot more, and usually it turns out well because I assess how far aherad my laner is, where their jg is etc. But my laner always ends up getting 3 plates cuz my junglers in plat dont catch the wave. If i played a champ like talon it wouldnt be an issue but my control mage is pretty slow
Love your content
Hello! Thanks for the great content.
I'm actually adc in br server, can you make a playlist with the best videos to whatch and apply in bot line?
Thanks again.
What do you think about these things in terms of map awareness?:
- How strong are you relative to the opponents? Ex: If I have a lead, I may or may not be ganked more going in to mid-game (especially with bounties).
- The speed at which you can get ganked/collapsed on?
- Abilities and summoners up available to you vs what they have?
- Intuition and team positioning (If I push up with no pressure top/bot, then I'll probably get ganked)
- Gankability of junglers and MIAs (with and WITHOUT pings)
- If the enemies are on your side of the map, what does it mean for your team vs their team advantage?
I play with map only after my tower is gone. I wish we could put it on a second screen or make it bigger. :D
Orianna/Cassio are good to have in a pool, I'd get rid of Annie and maybe Velkoz
@@CoachCurtis Alright, ty for reply !
Life saver
Ty bruv your vids are blessings and im not even religious
Could you do a mid lane champion tier list?
I do have one in my discord
I have this habit of pressing tab and flipping through my f keys whenever I've started the animation to last hit a minion and just look at the map periodically. it's a really short period of time so should I try to assess the map while looking at tab or just ditch that altogether? Also just a funny side story. I was watching Bobqins stream and he was talking about how informational channels don't do well and me and quite a few people in his chat spammed COACH CURTIS and made him acknowledge you :D
It's a good habit to get into if you are able to actively process the information you are seeing, faker is very good at utilizing the f keys, but keep in mind it's not about it 'looking cool' , it's about what the information is informing you to do next
Thanks brother
Curtis, which one is the micro video you mentioned? The advanced laning tips? Cheers, mate!
//edit: found it "Micro and Tethering"
Dude... Just thanks c:
Hy there, indeed what you say fits very well into managing your time window to check for info, but what happens if you are ganged from behind or flanc behind the wall on your side of the lane?
it sounds like coach is saying you can dodge skill shots without seeing your champ, how would you know exactly where to go to dodge just from peripheral vision????
just set an alert that reminds you to watch on minimap every time you hear the sound. After some days you are watching the map like business as usual.
There is no magic behind it just psychology
Is there an app for this?
Would you say to try and check the minimap everytime you last hit a minion unless you are under pressure or have another minion to last hit?
I have great map awareness buy I have the opposite problem
My macro is amazing, but I have trouble with micro
Its why I flex jungle, I know where all the hotspots are
what about awareness of enemies? i find I often take bad fights and end up dying bc I am not aware of this.
Curtis. Please. Have my children. ALL of them, you can have anything you want for me. My entire family. Thank you
Hey Curtis I absolutely love you videos and I’ve used them for midlaners I like playing casually to get a better understanding of midlaners I like to play but I mainly play adc and I was wondering, do you know a “coach curtis” for adcs? Most of the adc helps I can find are proguides bs. Thanks! Been watching since 20k and imma keep watching
what about hitting tab for info when is that good to do and what type of info are you looking for when hitting tab
and i like to know what you think of using F1-F5 to get info that looking at your map can't over looking at map odds you want to do the 2 but how to do that because you need to do 1 thing at time
f keys give you hp of cs and how lane is pushing/ being played hp/mana of their laner and sometime you get sums/ults what can help you
but map tells you if someone on a ward
This mans the only reason im still playing league. Lol
I appreciate that man
Are we gonna get more "Solo que tip of the day"? Or is it over?
I kind of evolved it to the soloq concepts series
