  • In Hades, both the compositions and their use in-game are designed to keep the player off-balance. Until they aren't.
Feel free to send subtitles of any language to my business e-mail, and I will publish them!
.srt format with time stamps preferred, but I'll accept anything as long as I know what lines should show at what time.
The Hades soundtrack was written by Darren Korb.
Hades is available on PC, Mac, Switch, PS5, Xbo--everything. It's on everything.

Also just wanted to say, as a Greek person, this switching about of time signatures wasn't too uncommon in some Balkan music, of which some parts of tracks draw inspiration from. I think the Balkan influences I could hear the most in the battle with Theseus and the Minotaur, really strong tune in that which I've heard at so many weddings xD Which was an interesting take considering it was a fight, but I liked the reference. I feel Korb really captured some traditional Greek essence in his prog rock which I deeply appreciated.

I really appreciate the way you break everything down. As someone uninitiated in the realm of music theory I still find these videos very easy to understand and very interesting. It's not painful at all! Actually, it's WHY I started making these videos. The only tedious part is making all the graphics, since that's a realm *I'm* uninitiated in. But the explanations and breakdowns are all thoughts I have on a regular basis, and I couldn't keep them inside anymore. It makes me really happy that you can understand it!

Hey man, I found your channel from the last video you uploaded about Nier and I am VERY happy that you've made another video in only 2 weeks.
Your videos and explanations are super well done and I'm very glad I came across your channel, please continue what you're doing, I'm sure you'll reach a greater audience someday!
I've shared this video with many friends and their reactions were like: wow I didn't even understand anything about music but the explanations were so understandable that I felt like I've been studying it for years!
Also one of the games that I've played recently which I really really enjoyed the soundtracks was Elden Ring, the final boss theme called The Final Battle actually made me cry for about 40 minutes straight, something I really felt while listening to it for hours after finishing the game was that in the second phase of the music, at the 3:44 mark I felt like they didn't let the music reach its climax and actually stole the feeling of joy from you when you could feel the track reaching its top form, which I also think it can be related to the god (Elden Beast) which is stuck there and its purpose is to stop you from becoming the Elden Lord, so he's forced to fight you and that's why they don't let the track reach its climax, or maybe I'm over analyzing stuff haha.
Thank you again for your hard work, keep on keeping on

I have a soft spot for irregular time signature music that sounds good, so Out of Tartarus is one of my favorite tracks (I like Hades's OST for combining metal and Middle Eastern style, like Shades of Black). Korb also used a time signature swap prominently in the Transistor track "In Circles," it's 5/4 (or 3 then 2) in the verses and 6/4 for the chorus. Really noticeable in the second half of the track when the overdrive guitars kick in and you get that triple meter headbang going, another commenter on the RUclips listing for that track also notes the harp remains in 4/4 so it's got this polyrhythm kinda feel to it too.

Dynamic soundtracks are so complex and hard to implement. Another good example of dynamic transitions between different tracks happens in Octopath Traveler, between the pre-boss music (one of the 8 tracks depending on the character, e.g. "For Treasure" for Tressa) and the actual boss music ("Decisive Battle I", "Decisive Battle II", or "Battle at Journey's End").

Great break down adn awesome video!
But as a metalhead... Metal and rock by proxy are associated with ALL macabre and occult themes. There are metal bands dedicated to Greek Mythology such as the song Thanatos which is a reference about Thanatos the actual god of dead to Hades being the god OF the dead. There are songs about ancient egyptians, witchcraft, demons both Christian/Catholic and Islamic, native american references, norse references.
Metal falls into any of the dark parts of the world as that is where it rests so having metal in a game about Hades is quite fitting.

6/8 != 3/4 in any dimension. 6/8 while yes is counted in 2 and you change where the emphasis lies, 6/8 is counted in duplets. A duplet is a note or series of notes that have slightly different musical timing. for example you can listen to Piano Man by Billy Joel which is 3/4 and then compare it to idk a sea shanty of example and even though I've they have the same types of notes in a given bar they will sound off.

    • @JonathanBarouch
      @JonathanBarouch  Год назад

I don't think I understand what you mean. If you count 6/8 in 2, you're probably counting triplets, unless the music explicitly has prominent duplet pairs written in it. In a sea shanty you count two sets of triplets per measure, and in Piano Man you count three sets of duplets. But in either piece, so long as the tempo is the same, a note of the same value takes the same amount of time to play.
