Most of the resources I showed in this vid are USA-focused. If you have job boards or volunteering organizations in other countries you'd like to share to help each other out, please share in this thread! Leave me a comment below with what you thought about this video 🙂
(P.S. Sorry about the slight video lag in some parts)

    Hi Christine
Thank you for sharing the volunteer websites.
I’ve been having a hard time starting on projects with no direction or objective. I’ve learned the basic skills of SQL and Tableau but there’s a grey area implementing the skills I’ve gained.
Having a volunteer project to work on is a great motivation and provides great hands on experience!

    Hi Christine!
The building a bridge concept really resonated with me because for a while I've been struggling with what to polish on and how to go about taking the next relevant steps in my journey, so thank you for elucidating the structure 🙏🏽

    Hi Christine,
Great video. I learned a lot of these lessons the hard way trying to find my way into data roles and trying to compete with more educated and experienced professionals. I like that you made it very clear that it is not a one step journey to change careers. There's a lot of risk involved and employers want to feel confident that they are taking their best option.
Since it takes time to become technically proficient (a goal post that seems to never stop moving) and likely several steps to eventually become Director of Finance and Data , how do you recommend aspiring analysts to use their time wisely? What daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly habits should aspiring analysts develop to become a leader in tech innovation and business strategy?

amazing question! from a high level:
      - focus on communication, especially being able to relate data concepts and technical jargon to non technical people. this ultimately is a key factor in career growth, trust-building, and visibility
      - create a regular habit of asking yourself: how could this process (this report, dashboard, query) be made better? and start "automating" yourself away so you can do more with less time, and think more strategically
      - more concretely, focus on technical expertise first, then pairing that with domain and industry-specific knowledge through research and creating/finding your own opportunities
the future of analytics belongs to analysts who are well-rounded critical thinkers who can proactively communicate and think in a way that rises above the daily coding tasks (heard there's something called AI which can now help with that....). cheers!

Thank you, this was really helpful. I am currently trying to become a data analyst from having a 8 months job gap and irrelevant experience. I will avoid the spary and pray approach, after all precise aim and recoil control is the way you hit your shots.

Thank you for the video. I just discovered this channel and found this video to be helpful. I've subscribed! I'm optimistic, but I know it will be challenging to make a career pivot. My biggest concern is time - I'm worried about being overlooked and not getting an interview. I don't want to get stuck and settle. I'm still learning about the data so I can plan and prepare for it when I'm ready.

Hi, I am trying to switch careers, and people says that` starting out with stats is important to actually know the data and what to do with it. I was doing a project and I did the basic stuff like cleaning, formatting the data types, and other things, after those steps, I really had no idea how to really analyze the data
