Same here! It was also very well explained and easy to understand. I got a kit called felting friends that had all the stuff, but explained it terribly in the instructions. For example I’m making a koala and it says “use blue wool to make a ball shape for the head and an egg shape for the body. Join them together.” I looked up how to do it and yours came up and now I know exactly how to do it! Thank you!

Just enough information. Direct, concise, and easy to follow. You've won me over. Don't know if I'll ever needle felt, but by god I could watch this for hours.
1+ Year(s) later, I’m back to this video. I’m turning 18 next week and as a dude, I got to help out local shelters, a CHURCH!!, I got to even teach kids at my local library how to felt. It needs patience, and a LOT of creativity which is something KIDS HAVE!!! I mean, I don’t really make a lot of money from this, but this skill is what I was super lucky to help teach my grandma before she passed. Really awesome to look at one of the first videos and grow from there. Truly a masterpiece of a craft :)
It made me smile every time she says to “give it a squidge”. I’ve never heard anyone say that before - it’s delightful! Can’t wait to begin my first felting project and this tutorial has made me a far less anxious to start.
I absolutely love little felted creatures but never thought I could actually make one. Your tutorial was so informative and easy to follow, and your voice was very easy to listen to as well. I'm definitely going to view more of your videos and give this a try. Thank you so much!

I knew quite a bit from watching others and my inference/common sense skills. What I didn't know is the importance of what kind of needles used and learnt how not to break it easily so your beginners' tutorial helped a in that way.

2 - 3 years later and your video clip is still much appreciated. Thank you for posting. I'm in South Africa and just got a small item of a parrot and the instructions are Asian and your video was the first to watch.

To me, this is exactly what RUclips is for. I only just heard about needle felting and you are very inspirational. A great skill to add to my craft kit.
I just received a wonderful felting kit with all the bells and needles(lol). From 50 diff colored felts, several tools and needles, etc. I had told my hubby that I wanted to take up felting and showed him your video to explain what felting is. I’m excited to learn from your video!

Great tutorial - I tried Felting around 10 years ago. I wish I had watched a good video like this back then. You’re a great teacher & I just subscribed - excited to see your other videos!! Thanks for sharing your talent!!

Thank you, it's great fun and worth trying. Check out my beginner playlist, types of wools and needles, I also have a video to lead you through the very first time you felt something x
I'm getting my first beginner felting kit tomorrow! I'm really excited. Not to be dramatic but I've felt a bit lost over the past couple years, and even my hobbies of drawing and writing have become difficult to motivate myself into doing. I allowed myself to impulsively buy a beginner's kit, and it's the first time I've felt excited for something in a while! I can't wait to make little animals to give to my friends.
Needle felting is very therapeutic and just a lovely way to relax, start simple, practice some shapes and then just have fun and make something you really like. Remember it's hard to replicate exactly what you see, it will be your own version and that's good, I hope you enjoy it x
Brilliant, you are never too young to start thinking of business, get Mum and/or Dad to help you out and talk it through, I've plenty of videos to keep you busy hopefully 😀
It's time to dig out my felting kit my other half bought me thinking I'd love it. I did, but I have had no clue where to start. Thanks for this tutorial!!
I just tried needle felting for the first time tonight, and it went rather poorly. I just found this video and it makes so much more sense than the instructions my kit came with! I'm going to try again tomorrow and hopefully do better with this new knowledge.
Wonderful! Glad it helped and it might be the wool is tops not carded and make sure you have good quality needles, this all helps to make felting easier in the beginning xx
So clear and direct thank you!! :) I’ve never felted but I subscribed straight after watching. I’m having a little girl in February and hoping to make her lots of homemade decorations before she’s here ❤️
@@feltsbyphilippa You are very welcome! Herdwick is one of my favorite breeds. Did you ever make a Border Leicester? Those are adorable with their big ears.
I started to needle felt a few days ago, at first I thought the needles had to go all the way through your creations and I ended up breaking eight needles in three days. I know better now and I’ve been working on some of my creations. I’m going to try a 3-D object for the first time I’m really excited to see how it will turn out
New to needle felting and found your channel. After watching I immediately subscribed. Will probably watch a few more before getting started but loved the way you got straight into what to do while narrating what not to do. My daughter asked me to make her a bee keyring and I thought this would be a good medium to make it as I cannot crochet (like the example she showed me) I believe with your tuition I will be needle felting all kinds of things fairly soon. Thank you for the further inspiration.
Oh I love this! I never heard of needle felting before. I saw an ad on Facebook tonight and looked it up on here. I want to try this. I can make things for my classroom and for all my husband's grandchildren. There's about 15 of them and we can't afford to buy them much in in the way of gifts.
Squidge is my new favorite word. Thank you for this tutorial video. I've been interested in needle felting for a long time and this is a fantastic means of showing the basics.
I see a few people mention the background music, I didn’t get bothered much until the end, I luckily could understand you perfectly so I didn’t mind it❤ In school I tried needlefelting a few years back, I gave up quite quickly. 2 weeks ago I was in a hobby shop and saw all the things I needed for it. I’m 14, so I had my father with me, and he claimed I wouldn’t be patient enough with it, which I actually believed until I realized I have about 16 hobbies, mainly drawing, watercoloring and painting which usually takes me 2-12 hours, so it wasn’t too bad. Without watching any videos on it I made a few little fictional characters, I think it went well but I’ve decided to watch a few videos to ensure I don’t mess up, I did stab myself in the finger within 10 minutes of it so😂😅 I’m definitely following you! Your explanations are very good!
Thank you, glad you like the videos and I think it's okay to have lots of craft hobbies. You can combine lots of them and it took me years to find needle felting which I have mostly settled on, thanks for watching and glad the music wasn't too loud x
You are just a ray of sunshine! Straight to the point, encouraging and so optimistic! I actually have done quite a bit of felting but with the adorable thumbnail I just couldn't help myself!
Always been fascinated about felting. I'm going to try it out. Thanks for the video. I do a lol bot of all crafts, the fox looks amazing in all these videos, my daughters favorite.
Great informative video - Thank you! I bought a cheap needle felting kit that came with polystyrene balls, but found they started to disintegrate as I added felt to it. I was curious as to what else could be used to “start off” and came across your video. The possibilities are endless starting off with a wool ball! Thank you!
Great, glad to help, you can definitely try and use what you have as the inside of a project, I even use wool for the coats on my sheep, gives a lovely effect x
I feel like a lot of video tutorials are not very helpful, but this one was not like that. I understood everything and successfully made a felt ball that I have no idea what I'm going to do with but I love it.
Ah yes, a felted ball! Great practice but may need some more shapes to become something wonderful (a snowman, wrong time of year, I know). Please do check out some other of my tutorials especially if you enjoy creating animals x
Just bought a kit plus extra accessories tonight. You have a wonderful voice and video to help me along. This is totally new to me, and looks fun, yet complicated. I hope to make pictures eventually and animals. Who knows tho, I like to craft! Thank you for sharing your skills!
So happy you like it, needle felting is addictive! Some of the 2d felted pictures I see are truly stunning, it's quite a versatile craft, thanks for watching x
I tried needle felting once for fun, there was two needles in the pack and I broke them both. Unlike knitting and crochet it was much more interesting and entertaining because it wasn’t as repetitive. Going to ask for a larger kit on my birthday
Never tried this craft. But always wanted to. This vid came up in my recommended. So I clicked on it. Of all tutorials no matter the craft, this is the best explanation ever!! No chit chat before , straight to the point of the video, so easy to follow. I must sub and buy this basic kit. Thankyou!
Wow, that's very kind of you, it's a fantastic craft, I have a video on a good starter kit and what to look for and lots of other videos explaining wools, needles and tools, thanks for watching and subscribing x
Hi! I have just been extremely inspired to take up this hobby, I was wondering how pricey these products are??? This video is really helpful. I know a lot of people are upset about the music but it doesn’t really bother me! Thanks again!!!!
Aahh, thank you, I think it must sound differently on some audio systems. A starter kit is around £15 to £20, I do a video showing a good starter kit, but you will probably want more wool. However if you buy a kit of an animal you want to make (Etsy have lots), then you get exactly what you need. Research wools before you buy too much, carded is easiest to start. I also do a video on suppliers so that might help too. I reckon basic start cost £25 then another £25 would really help after a few weeks. Thanks for watching 👀 🙂 x
Whoosh found you by accident. Lived your tutorial, I had a kit for Xmas last year and wasn't sure what to do. Thank you you've inspired me to have a go 🥰💐
I love this tutorial. I have been pondering which kit to buy for a few months now. The way you explain things in your tutorials caved me in to buying my first Beginners Kit from Amazon. I'm excited to start a new hobby. I have always loved miniature crafts and I fell in love with the photos and videos of felting.
found this just in time for christmas!!! my friends are gonna have a lot of cute little animals in their room soon :-) you’re so good at this!!! im gonna check out your other tutorials in a bit !
Brilliantly simple tutorial. I''m a fairly experienced general crafter and 'dived' into felting with mixed results a couple of years ago. Got too excited and carried away without taking the time to learn about the fundamentals of the craft. Wish I'd watched your channel first.
My family is planning on moving soon and if I get my own room Im planning on starting needle felting! I thought it would be really hard you got rid of so much of my worry and my questions, thanks so much I appreciate it. I cant wait to have a shelf full of cute little felted animals, Im a big animal lover x3 ❤
I’m gonna be trying needle felting… I’ve always thought it looked so nice. I’ve always loved the look of so many simple and more complex creations. I’ve always wanted to give it a go… so… I’ll be heading to get my first kit this weekend! I’m really excited but super nervous!
I loved the video. Right to the point and as I have never done this craft before, I am excited to start. You didn't make a beginner feel like they can't do anything yet, but beginners are able to create.
Excellent instruction. I had never heard of needle felting before today, but was captivated by some "critters" made this way. Thought I might like to try it. I look forward to watching your other videos. Thank you for a nice clear introduction to the craft/art.
This was such a great tutorial, I've been thinking about picking up a new hobby and this looks like it can be a lot of fun! I also enjoy how you were very to the point throughout the video, defintely deserve my subscribe :D Will definitely check out the other vids as well

Thank you for posting this. I am new to felting. I appreciate this very much.
You're so welcome!
It's time to dig out my felting kit my other half bought me thinking I'd love it. I did, but I have had no clue where to start. Thanks for this tutorial!!
Thanks, hope you enjoy it xx
I just tried needle felting for the first time tonight, and it went rather poorly. I just found this video and it makes so much more sense than the instructions my kit came with! I'm going to try again tomorrow and hopefully do better with this new knowledge.
Wonderful! Glad it helped and it might be the wool is tops not carded and make sure you have good quality needles, this all helps to make felting easier in the beginning xx
@feltsbyphilippa I had to look up what that means, and it sounds like the wool I have is tops. Is carded generally easier to work with for a beginner?
Yes definitely, check out my beginner playlist for videos on it xx
So clear and direct thank you!! :) I’ve never felted but I subscribed straight after watching. I’m having a little girl in February and hoping to make her lots of homemade decorations before she’s here ❤️
Very exciting! My sister is due February as well, glad you liked the video x
Want to let you know how much I love those Herdiwicks you made. They are lovely! The details on the ram are beautiful!
Thank you so much, I just love felting Herdwicks and am also trying to improve them, thanks for watching ❣️
@@feltsbyphilippa You are very welcome!
Herdwick is one of my favorite breeds. Did you ever make a Border Leicester? Those are adorable with their big ears.
Not yet but I did do a Kerry Hill with big ears, I do plan to do lots of different breeds but time always runs away with me xx
I started to needle felt a few days ago, at first I thought the needles had to go all the way through your creations and I ended up breaking eight needles in three days. I know better now and I’ve been working on some of my creations. I’m going to try a 3-D object for the first time I’m really excited to see how it will turn out
Sorry about the needles, it's quite a gentle action really, hope you enjoy the 3d work, it's fascinating to see the wool transform x
Thank you and I really hope you enjoy it, carded wool makes life alot easier, best of luck and thanks for watching xx
I am fascinated....now I must try a very small project!!
Thanks, hope it goes well x
Thank you! I just started last night. I really appreciate that you share your knowledge. Thank you!
That's most kind, glad to help x
i did this a couple years ago in Belarus with my mom and we recently just thought of doing it again lmao. so excited to get my kit
Hope you enjoy it x
Oh I love this! I never heard of needle felting before. I saw an ad on Facebook tonight and looked it up on here. I want to try this. I can make things for my classroom and for all my husband's grandchildren. There's about 15 of them and we can't afford to buy them much in in the way of gifts.
Felting is great for gifts, very unique and special, I've lots of tutorials on my channel so do have a look through x
@@feltsbyphilippa Thank you. I most definitely will check them all out.
"Sometimes you need to take your finger protectors off and give it a squish" - life advice from a true sage.
Yes! Definitely! Lol 😆 x
Squidge is my new favorite word. Thank you for this tutorial video. I've been interested in needle felting for a long time and this is a fantastic means of showing the basics.
Brilliant, glad you enjoyed it x
My little kit came with everything except instructions to get going lol thank you so much!
Hope it goes well, I have lots of other videos too x
I see a few people mention the background music, I didn’t get bothered much until the end, I luckily could understand you perfectly so I didn’t mind it❤
In school I tried needlefelting a few years back, I gave up quite quickly.
Thank you for this philippa! This is my time first doing needle felting and I'm already a fan! You're videos are very calming :)
Thank you, I have plenty of beginner videos so do have a look through my channel and thanks for watching and making such a lovely comment 🙂 x
You are just a ray of sunshine! Straight to the point, encouraging and so optimistic! I actually have done quite a bit of felting but with the adorable thumbnail I just couldn't help myself!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment, hope it's going well x
Always been fascinated about felting. I'm going to try it out. Thanks for the video. I do a lol bot of all crafts, the fox looks amazing in all these videos, my daughters favorite.
Glad you like it, thanks so much x
Great video! I’m a beginner and want to make some cute animals for my kids for Christmas, so glad I found your channel!
Thanks so much, I have lots of tutorials which might help, thanks for watching x
Thanks for this tutorial! I got a beginner kit with a manual that wasn't very clear; but this tutorial really helped alot!
No problem, I have lots of free tutorials all about wool and needles and lots to make, thanks for watching x
@@feltsbyphilippa Thanks I'll check them out!
Omg I’m thinking of getting this for Christmas tysm for explaining it so carefully I feel like I can start a project now!
I hope you enjoy it, thanks for watching xx
Only just discovered this and I'm ready to dive right in!
I hope you enjoy it x
I tried needle felting once for fun, there was two needles in the pack and I broke them both. Unlike knitting and crochet it was much more interesting and entertaining because it wasn’t as repetitive. Going to ask for a larger kit on my birthday
Excellent, I hope you enjoy it, needles can be purchased quite cheaply from Heidifeathers x
I wanted to make a small baby, this series really helped with shaping, & hopefully the face. Thank you!
Glad you liked it and thanks for watching x
I just ordered my first felting kit yesterday and I can't wait to start ❤️
I hope it goes well and you enjoy it, check out my beginner playlist too x
I saw a tutorial from your channel in 2021, ever since iv loved your channel and needle felting, thank you :)
And thank you for watching and commenting, glad you like it x
Ok this was so incredibly helpful! Can’t wait to watch the rest of this series, I just bought my first kit and this is going to help me loads!
Brilliant, glad you liked it, I've plenty more videos x
This was a quick and easy tutorial. Thank you very much for making this.
Glad it was helpful!
Looking to start a new hobby after a rough year! This looks fab, I'm excited to get started. Subscribed!! :)
Brilliant, I've lots of beginner videos so have a look through, it's a fantastic craft! X
I originally was looking for homemade gifts for my family but this seems really fun so I think i will do this a lot once i get the stuff for it.
It's great fun and very addictive x
Picking up a few crafting hobbies, and this is one I'm trying to learn. Good video! Love the short intro as well
Thanks so much x
I love how she says squish. thank you for this video! very calming.
Glad you like it and thanks for watching 👀 x
Whoosh found you by accident. Lived your tutorial, I had a kit for Xmas last year and wasn't sure what to do. Thank you you've inspired me to have a go 🥰💐
I've lots more beginner videos, have a look through the beginner playlist and good luck, it can be addictive once you start! X
Well I have lots more videos, have a look through and hope you enjoy it x

I Ioved the video, thank you! I'm just a beginner, this helped me so much!! ❤️
Thank you, that excellent, I have lots more videos so please do have a look through my channel, hope you are enjoying it x
Brilliantly simple tutorial. I''m a fairly experienced general crafter and 'dived' into felting with mixed results a couple of years ago. Got too excited and carried away without taking the time to learn about the fundamentals of the craft. Wish I'd watched your channel first.
Thank you, I've lots of videos so should keep you entertained for a bit, thanks for watching and commenting x
@@feltsbyphilippa Thanks for the reply.
No problem
My family is planning on moving soon and if I get my own room Im planning on starting needle felting! I thought it would be really hard you got rid of so much of my worry and my questions, thanks so much I appreciate it. I cant wait to have a shelf full of cute little felted animals, Im a big animal lover x3 ❤

I’m gonna be trying needle felting… I’ve always thought it looked so nice. I’ve always loved the look of so many simple and more complex creations. I’ve always wanted to give it a go… so… I’ll be heading to get my first kit this weekend! I’m really excited but super nervous!
Thanks, hope you enjoy it, carded wool and good quality needles help plus just keep practising as you will continue to improve 😊 xx
This was so incredibly helpful. Thank you!

I loved the video. Right to the point and as I have never done this craft before, I am excited to start. You didn't make a beginner feel like they can't do anything yet, but beginners are able to create.
You definitely can, hope you give it a go, thanks for watching x
You are so talented.
Thank you, that's very kind, it's just practice, you can do it too x
Thanks for the encouragement. I really like it so far.
Excellent instruction. I had never heard of needle felting before today, but was captivated by some "critters" made this way. Thought I might like to try it. I look forward to watching your other videos. Thank you for a nice clear introduction to the craft/art.
Thank you so much, it's a fantastic craft, I hope you enjoy it if you give it a go x
