The introduction is from the song "The Jungler (alternate version)" off the Balloon Maker EP You can kind of hear it if you go "Over there, see...." and the beginning.
We saw Midlake play at the Paleo festival near Geneva last wek - just awesome...a bit freaky how they moved around the stage - very "work-like" - looked like you were under time pressure guys...? And no Encore..? We LOVED your set!
@paulosham I don't know for sure, but the name Midlake could come from the geography of Denton, TX, where the band comes from. There are large lakes on the north and south ends of the city. There are also a set of parks in town called North Lakes and South Lakes parks. It would be just a guess about the name. I could be totally wrong.
the thing i really liked most about the lyrics to this song was the couple shrugging off having all their material possessions taken from them and then later on, taking in the bandits who robbed them after the bandits themselves are robbed. so i thought it was mostly about forgiveness but this video seems more focused on revenge, which is why i dont think it really fits
Totally. We can listen to Silver Jews on the way to the theater, Feist on the way back... and maybe watch an episode of Aqua Teen? I mean, that's if you're down...
well.. not really this song in particular. but there are some of theirs that I have heard and I actually thought it was radiohead. especially the song 'golden hour' .. I guess its just that tim smith has a voice a little bit similar to thom yorke.. but maybe thats a subjective topic. I don't want to start any fights! lol I'd not thought about it before, but yeah, I do get what you mean by the Nick Drake comment. it has that certain feel too
This video really pisses me off, I have been listening to this band for years and never seen a music video from them till today, and it ...well...fuck, the video is not fitting the music. i didn't have own picture in my head either, i imagined this song and the rest from this album to be a bit more like the words go...you there is a story behind the music and the characters and the screen play here is not following the script..the music..it's like reading a book first and then watchin the movie
I wish the album included this intro. It's so beautiful
Midlake's music really lives in it's own world.

That was fantastic.
that was epic indeed
I love this song.....
Hi Scott!!
Lovers of Midlake should check out a rare late 60's album by Pete McCabe "The Man Who Ate The Plant" very similar vibe to 'Van Occupanther"....
Hahahaahahaha that was priceless.
beautiful

midlake is so cool.
the attic reminds me of the house where they filmed the original "Carrie"
wonderful way of describing it :)

I love Midlake. Any new stuff coming soon ?
I like all the Clue weapons... candle stick, wrench, pistol...

it's the theme from the jungler from their earlier album "bamnan and silvercork", just a bit drama'd up. wonder why they put that in there?

Great song and album. Cool video too BUT THEY DON"T SUIT EACHOTHER
Thanks. Whats the new lp called?
I heard this on Fringe.
I think he was being sarcastic to the person who didn't get the video :D But the theory on the name makes a lot of sense
these guys remind me a little of radiohead..
but like, 70's style radiohead. if that makes sense?
a world shared by fleetwood mac and CSN&Y
@Znekeenan Fleet Foxes are the best modern band in my opinion, check them out.
@steezandcheez Couldn't agree more
@cashJOHNNYcash17
Seriously? In terms of songwriting and musical ability Midlake leave fleet foxes in the dust. Simple truth.
fringe!
Really? Apart from the band themselve's talking about Radiohead, I can't see any similarlity.
More akin to a Nick Drake/Joe Boyd production.
That intro didn't make any sense (musically at least)
