What a lovely demo. This thing is seriously, to me, one of the most startlingly powerful synths of all time. The sound... the control... it’s all there.
Dementially tasty. This video really extends the "possible" sounds of a mini. Im hearing a lot of beautifully inimaginable sounds, some of them screaming "save/storage me!" .... Thank god now are filmed from eternity. Thanks for recording that and keep the exploration, mate
ZElTGElST Thank you very much. Basically it's pretty easy to dial in: All thats needed is route Osc3 in audio range to oscillator pitch or vcf freq. And then you'll find those spots easily. But you're right, sometimes its that subtle setting that makes a sound. What about sampling ?
The good thing about the Minimoog is that in some way it is so basic that is not need it a save recall capability, all it’s at your hands reach and in a short period of time you know how to make all the sounds. I think about it as an instrument
Awesome demo. Really displaying the sonic pallete of what some may have veiwed as a one trick pony. Those tone you coax are very intresting . Well played :-)
Ariel Raguet Thanks a lot. It's a bit unpredictable for me what those audio rate modulations do, but I love exploring. Lots of electricity floating in this box ;)
Great demo! It makes want to buy one...and I already have a Moog Sub 37. This Model D sounds more flexible in terms of sonic capabilities and a bit brighter, but at the same time can be dark if need it. Great analog synth. Thanks for sharing it!
Agustin David Forner Thanks for watching. The audio-range modulation of osc and filter gives so much additional possibilities beyond the usual moog basses and leads. I wonder what even more is possible in a modular setup using the additional patch points.
Love it. This is why I ordered one as well as the Neutron. With the patchbay on the Neutron, you've got a few more option. Plus I can patch the Model D into it as well. That's a lot of synth for $600.
OMG!!! Here too... Is it your unit? Because I ordered 6 from a reseller friend of mine (actually 2 for me, 4 for his stock) This freakin' synth with break this year's synth world. This is what I call analog, not that crap Korg, Roland and the likes have been spewing out to cash out on the analog craze... this SOUNDS analog.
lucky #7, nice score :) Dont care about patch memory personally. It sounds so much more refined than the Roland to my ears. Sounds like a proper MM, not like i'm an analog snob or anything. I just find the new analogs to be sterile, lifeless and lacking in character. I had this feeling with the minilogue and the ms20 mini, but to my surprise, fell in love with the ju06 (having owned the original several times)... go figure :)
Yes I do... and quite noisy too, unfortunately. It is, obviously though, analog indeed. Compared to the real thing, the ms20mini doesn't sound right. Play them side by side and it's all too obvious. Still, the mini is a cool synth compared to other "classic" analogs (SCI synths come to mind. Lots of them suck). Some clones encapsulate the spirit of the original (JU-06 for example), some fall short.
Everywhere I go, I read the same thing: the MS20Mini has noisy oscillators. That has not been my experience, in the least. My Mini has punch where it's needed and squelchy resonance, when called. Other than that, it holds up without any of the noise I hear so much about. Maybe mine is defective, in the best way possible?
Moog is great. They don't have to worry about this. This is the same price as a microbrute and other entry level synths and it's a million times better than all of them. They might worry?
b. t. Used prices of for example Moog Minitaur have dropped significantly since the release/availability of the Behringer D. Don't know how sales figures of other current mono synths like SE-02 are affected ...
Awesome patches! Couple of questions if you don’t mind: can you modulate the oscillator and filter simultaneously with the LFO? How many patch points does the synth have for internal patching?
umusic6 Thanks for the replying. I was offered this as a trade for my SE-02 and I can’t decide. I make experimental music so these FM tones are convincing and the internal patch points may lead to some crazy things the SE-02 isn’t capable of.
Haut Strange The Model D is perfect for experimenting. I would even recommend the Neutron, if you don’t need the moogish tonality. Haptically everything is better than the flimsy SE-02 knobs. Another crippled Roland gadget because of that, otherwise I would prefer the SE-02 cause of patch storage and the sound is also comparable, means spot on.
umusic6 I actually have a Neutron as well haha, which is why I’m thinking of doing the trade. The Boog will offer way more connectivity to my other modular/semi-modular synths. I’ve never had the Model D sound in my arsenal, and while I love the SE-02, it’s more of its own thing. It can get into that territory but not like the Boog can. I do have one more question if you don’t mind: how gnarly can the feedback get?
Haut Strange very gnarly!!! Even without patch cables, with your output coming from the “low” output, it’ll get very gnarly, very quickly. Add cables, and it’s just abominable.

Whoa, very nice, this manages to hit some of the same sonic territory as my favorite FM synths.
Thx. Would be interesting to create even more complex FM stuff with polychaining/patching 2 of them.

Adamski A. Thanks, man. These Synths need to be explored !
Very good demo. You went by the unusual but very beautiful way. I am a fan of FM synthesis and what you did here is really awsome.
Ariel Raguet Thanks a lot. It's a bit unpredictable for me what those audio rate modulations do, but I love exploring. Lots of electricity floating in this box ;)
Can't believe these sounds. Bravo
Just explore ;)
Thank you for the tips on FM! Must try when I get home from work!

Interesting demonstration. Analog FM is really cool!
wow, that was really refreshing!
I guess I will check FM in the next hours on my BOOG :-)

Agreed. I'm still sceptical with the Neutron. I think i don't need all the modulation gimmicks, i think that's also why I'm not into modular stuff.
Lordy mama, I can't wait to get mine.
The wait is killing me for this thing :-( Hoping the UK get stock very soon ;/)
I can't wait to see people poly chaining these
1:20 sweet patch!
SUPERIOR SYNTH NOODLE-ING VIDEO MY FRIEND

Le Polygone yeah, this is my unit, serial number 7 ;) I think the Roland SE-02 is pretty similar. And has patch storage. Something I miss on the D.
lucky #7, nice score :)

You found the mini sterile? i find it pretty obviously analog
Yes I do... and quite noisy too, unfortunately. It is, obviously though, analog indeed. Compared to the real thing, the ms20mini doesn't sound right. Play them side by side and it's all too obvious. The good things is that i pre-ordered a unit in late december. The bad thing is that i have to wait until march for it to arrive. ^^
Ring modulation on this thing? What am I missing I've had mine for the past two yrs🤖👾👽📡
now I wanna make some tech trance using the model d!!!
3 Moog employees disliked this video.

really:)
?
This was an awesome find. Have you had an opportunity to see if the poly D has the same flexibility?
Haven't had a chance to play one, but from the specs, it should be the same as the model d and more.
Seems like the same machine with keys on it
Tienes la plantilla?
Damn, that’s a lot of synth for $300 ...
you said it!
Guitar center have them on sale for $219
Too bad I'm in Germany...
Awesome patches! Couple of questions if you don’t mind: can you modulate the oscillator and filter simultaneously with the LFO? How many patch points does the synth have for internal patching?
You can modulate both simultaneously. It has 14 patch points if I count correctly.
umusic6 Thanks for the replying. I was offered this as a trade for my SE-02 and I can’t decide. I make experimental music so these FM tones are convincing and the internal patch points may lead to some crazy things the SE-02 isn’t capable of.

Do you have a delay effect going at times or is that all from modulation? Thanks for uploading!
Absolutely right, I used some FX (delay, chorus, reverb) from about 13:00 to 17:45 to make things a bit more interesting.
isn't this thing just amazing? i got mine for 240 bucks too :D
wow! gotta try this
I like the hoover-like sound at the end! Is the LFO analogue?
All analog. Just the Midi/USB thing is digital.
Great sound reminds me of the 1990s, warmer than most modern analogues.
umusic6 genau. Das gefällt. Da kann man was draus machen 😉
which chorus are you using ?
Boss BE-5 Delay and Chorus, Reverb from Lexicon Alex. Pretty cheap combo ;)
Sounds better than Moog///...
imo
I have no Moog, so can't compare. The Minimoog videos here on YT don't show this kind of sounds.
umusic6 Exactly my thoughts hence my above comment.
Probably a good time search "Minimoog Model D" and listen to some videos, you need a refresher.
G Can you give some links to videos showing this kind of sounds on the original Minimoog ?
