DOC energized the top line the same way Bunting did for the second line.

"This team for sure can win the Stanley Cup,” Guentzel said. “I think it’s right there. This puts you in a good spot to do that. I want to do that more than anything, and that’s all I care about. That definitely plays a factor into it. Hopefully you can kind of get some stability and be able to sign here long term.”
Jake saying this pretty much is not only indicating he's more than happy with the Hurricanes, also in a backhanded way says what a lot of people think about the Penguins anymore. And that is they are not a Cup contending team and won't be anytime soon. All it is now is a vessel for the core to ride until retirement, and Jake probably sees that more clearly now. Hard to get a clear perspective from inside the cloudy fish bowl. Sadly, a lot of fans are also inside that stagnant bowl along with the management and ownership.

I'm all about doc as the 1st lw. He will grow into the roll and offers a new dynamic. If he stays on that line, I'm sure he's in the 20 goal range. I'd would rather spend the money on a new 3c and slide eller to the 4th. That would be give.more balance to this line up.

DOC was worthy of the top 2 lines years ago. He can play.

I think if DOC plays the entire season on Sid's line he is good for at least 25 goals and that is without PP time because his special teams play is need on the PK and how good he is there.

& everyone always says “40 goal scorers like Jake do not grow on trees”
well we already have one - Bryan Rust . if he can play a full season next year - he can be a 40 goal scorer …
I know his type of game doesn’t allow him to play a full season (his type of game pretty much guarantees an injury or 2)
but maybe that’s something him & Sully can work out in the offseason - keep his game on that same level - but tweak it in a way that doesn’t do as much mileage on his body throughout the season .

Jake has to speak highly of the Canes at this stage. Having said that, he is a Cane. He may love Pittsburgh but he was traded BY Pittsburgh and if he came back he would have to deal with KD. The real question is - when does the former coach of the Leafs go to WBS?

Keep DOC on the 1st line - if he made that jump this year - imagine after the offseason & a full year with Sid & Rusty … not saying this will ever happen - but he can do a miniature version of what Zach Hyman or Sam Reinhart did this year …

DOC has developed well, he brings much needed energy and played well with Sid.

They weren’t exactly tearing up the league when he was still on the team the last few years. He’s a great player and should have been prioritized over some others who ended up signing new contracts, but it’s time to get over it. Plus, if he REALLY wanted to, he could have stayed. He just wanted to stay for the right price.

Mmm... I'd be pretty wary of fooling ourselves into thinking the Penguins are the team from the last 20 games of the season as opposed to the first 62. Yes, DO'C did a nice job with Sid when given the opportunity, but if someone like Jake, Stamkos, Reinhart, or Marchessault is available at $9mil rather than $12mil, then you absolutely sign that guy. Unfortunately for DO'C or Jake, they're not a right hand shot, and I don't think they'd do much to fix the PP (despite Rierden likely being the biggest issue there).

I think Jake might not want to return to the Pens anyway where he was targeted by the opposition most every game because he is the most vulnerable and the Pens dont have players who will/can defend him..they have players who will give the opposition dirty looks. Maybe the Pens could unleash our tough guy Pettersson on someone? ::) His career will last longer as a Cane than a Pen and he will retire with a better body.
