Excellent review of excellent women. I find Pym so hard to describe. Her stories are so simple on the surface, but she is able to subtly include so much character and societal commentary. I agree. She is totally underrated.
Thanks, Sarah. I agree with what you said! Her stories don't aim to tackle grand issues, but the sharp observations she includes in her writing, how her characters feel sensitively, all those things I like!
What a great end to the year! Glad you were able to do a bunch of buddy reads. I loved reading The Hearing Trumpet with you - such a surreal, cool book. And Barbara Pym sounds really interesting too!
Hi Freddie, thank you so much for your kind words. It was a pleasure to read Excellent Women with you. Having your input help me enjoy this book so much more than the first time I read it. I loved all of your reviews in this video. Your breakfast looks delicious. Aloha friend.
Hi Marilyn! Thank you! 💚 Your comments especially those related to the setting of the book really enhanced my reading experience. We should do buddy reading again some time!
I remember the last time you talked about Leonora Carrington's "The Hearing Trumpet". I owned a copy then, but did not read it. Your second video has convinced me that I must move it to the top of my reading list
I have finished reading "The Hearing Trumpet". Such an unusual book! It is more than magical realism, and makes me wonder if Leonora Carrington was trying to create a new genre, surrealist fiction to go with her surrealist art. I will start preparing a book review and will give you a shout out for recommending the book
Hi Heather! I'm so glad you enjoyed this book! 🙌🏼 I read a bit of surreal fiction by other authors, but somehow some of them felt forced, unlike Carrington's. Probably they're just not of my taste. After reading her novel, I explored her paintings too and they looked beautiful ❤️
Great expositions on all the books reviewed!! 😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks a lot !! ❤️😃
The birdsong with your breakfast was just delightful.
Your comment reminds me to be more mindful of the birdsong! It's something I usually take for granted here.
