- Let's catch up again! We are home for a 2 week vacation so it was definitely time to restock the fridge. I headed to Kroger to take advantage of all their sales and deals this week, and then headed to Meijer as well. Let's talk about what July holds and how I plan to spend our $500 monthly budget in just 2 weeks! #grocerybudget #groceryhaul #groceryshopping

I store my potatoes in paper sacks. In dark cool area in my pantry.
My niece just bought 35pounds she canned them.

Paper sacks! Great idea! Canning potatoes is definitely on my list of things to try. Maybe with Thanksgiving potato sales I will have more time then because I really do want to try it. My girls love baked potatoes so we eat a lot of ours that way!

Thanks for the tip on not storing potatoes by onions. I have them in separate bins in my basement next to each other…although I haven’t seen any problems. Glad you had a safe and enjoyable trip. What a win to have extra in the budget to stock up. Have you ever saved the budget surplus for other things like baking items in the fall, holiday meals, extra produce at harvest time to can or freeze, or purchasing beef from a farmer?
I am glad you haven't seen any problems! That is good to know. And yes, sometimes, I do save my surplus for holiday sales or the like. As for beef, I manage to still get good deals from Meijer that I can't (yet!) seem to justify the extra cost to my budget. But this time, since I am seeing some gaps on my shelves, I just want to restock a bit.
Eggs were also cheaper at our kroger compared to walmart (3.69) but no coupon on them.
Interesting that Kroger has cheaper eggs right now! Another reason why it is good to compare prices!

I am so glad to see the potato storage tip again! I have some baking potatoes in a plastic bag and completely forgot about this. When you mentioned it before I tried it and it worked great, thanks for mentioning it again!

I went to Meijer for some 7/$7 deals. I got 3 bags of potatoes. I opened them all up and made mashed potatoes for dinner with the ones that were less then perfect. I also got a couple 3lb bags on yellow onions. My teen son like the water enhancers, but they are normally $3.50 so I only get them when they are on sale. They were part of the 7 for $7. So I went back in the store and got more after I noticed they were $1. I also stocked up on 4oz containers of Colgate and Meijer dental floss as part of the deal. The last thing I got where some frozen vegetables for $1 each.
Also at Meijer I had a e-coupon for one of the olive oils so I got 48oz of olive oil for $12.00. I was trying to remember what your stock up price was and I know the price of olive oil has changed some lately.
I had just gotten a 68 oz bottle of olive oil in Shipshewana at the dry good store for $15.00, so I am good for a while now.
Great deals at Meijers! Those $1 potatoes are the absolute best deal! 💯 We used the less than perfect ones up this week too. Glad you stumbled across the water enhancer deal too! 👏 That seems like a good deal on olive oil to me too. I am sure it will keep going up so good job grabbing some when you had a coupon!
@joyfullythriving I decided to see if there was still a deal on that toilet paper. The price wasn't quite as low, but if I can be patient, it looks like (4 packs, $50 or more of certain items) I should get $15 Amazon credit back. I took photos of the coupon. It's hard to remember to watch for delayed coupons.
@@heatherduling197 YES! That is a great way to save some money on non-perishables, by stacking those household coupons! It's thinking outside the box to save money, and we all want to do that!

So jealous of that potato deal! I have been getting a coupon from Wegmans for tissues that makes 4 boxes $3. I was excited to get it under $1 a box. I have to start my after vacation list but we are out of lots of food but I haven’t done any inventory yet. I sort potatoes the same but I keep them in a bowl and we could use that much in a month 😂

I also prefer the refrigerator pickles. I found an excellent recipe online that does not require that pickle mix. It is so good just like Claussen!

How do you store your extra sour cream do u freeze it
I personally don't. I just store it in the back of my fridge until we need it. You CAN freeze it, but it might separate slightly when it thaws. Still good for baking though. We just go through sour cream quite quickly! Lol.
