I've been playing for 60 years and no one ever showed me me the proper way to place the mouthpiece. (Beat that! ;-) I've got a lot of repair work to do... Thanks, Dr. Shook!
Very informative! For almost all my years of playing the trumpet, I've felt that I had never really developed an embouchure, or at least I don't think I have. When I play I feel I don't use the proper muscles for trumpet playing I just keep playing until my lips don't vibrate. This video helped me a bunch to understand how to get a feel of what muscles I should be utilizing!
Seth Andrew Thanks, Seth! Glad this helped. Be sure to check out these two videos on more exercises to help develop your embouchure: Lip Bends - ruclips.net/video/1oBnwF2QhO0/видео.html Pedal Tones - ruclips.net/video/o2Z4cWWE_Vk/видео.html
You don't even understand how helpful this is!😀 I am a beginning band trumpet player and I am a fairly decent player but I usually have a hard time getting up to c and I run out of air quickly but this technique has made it much easier and the notes are much clearer now, thank you so much !
I’m a jr in high school, I started 7th grade but I quit this year although I still play trumpet from time to time. I’ve always known I was a “fake buzzer” but no one ever helped with it even if I asked. I finally found this and you explained it well enough for me to know how to correct my mistakes. Thanks :)
A man finds a genie's lantern on a beach, rubs it and a happy genie appears. "Hello lucky mortal, I am the genie of the lamp here to grant you any wish!". The man timidly replies that his one wish might be asking for too much. "Nonsense" says the genie, "I will grant you whatever it is you wish!". "Okay", says the man. "Mr. Genie, if you will, please make the trumpet a very easy thing for me to play". The genie gives the man a dirty look, cusses him out and disappears back into his lamp. Evidently the genie once tried to play the trumpet and the man's request just rubbed him the wrong way...
This video is very helpful, well explained! I kinda have the problem that, when i move my mouthpiece more to the center, everything feels tight while playing. I understand where my problem with my current, more comfortable, embouchure lies (i tend to move it too much upwards) but i dunno if i should get used to that tight, uncomfortable position? or is it supposed to be like that and it gets better with time? That tightness makes it hard (or not possible) to play higher notes (notes that i don´t usually have problems with)
Is it possible for someone to be incapable of buzzing entirely? I've only just recently bought a mouthpiece (just the mouthpiece for now ) but my lips are rather dry in nature and it worries me
My mouthpiece is too low on my mouth. What are some exercises to relearn the embouchure? I've been trying for about 6 months with my lesson teacher but I am not able to play in the range I used to and I don't have the flexibility that I want.
So a little over a year ago I had my braces removed. Now when I play, the corners of my top lip overlap my bottom lip. This happens even when I push my lower lip out. My totality and range are kinda in a rut right now. Is there any exercises or forms to help me fix this?
Pls explain is it ok to place the mouthpiece left or right from the center of the lips??? Bcoz it hurts my inside lips when I play with centre position when high pitches...
hi. I have been playing for 10 years without the M setting and kept getting no progress. I have just changed my embroucher to this and its very hard to play now. Is it normsl please?
+Rex10500HD No, that's not necessarily bad, as long as you can still play effectively and efficiently. It's hard to say for sure without hearing/seeing you play, but there lots of great players who play with an upstream embouchure--everyone's facial structure is different!

Your tip about blowing air through the mouthpiece and then tightening slightly to attain a buzz is terrific. Thank you.
I’m in 8th grade and started playing 5th grade, no one has showed me the proper way to place the mouthpiece but this video really helped thanks 😁
wow, the best explanation I have received so far either tons of RUclips videos, book, or private teacher!

This trick with saying 'm' helped. Thanks!

My buzz sounds low and strangled?

+Sara Shelley I highly recommend lip bends, pedal tones, and small amounts of free buzzing. Check out my videos on those.

Comfort is a big priority, so position the mouthpiece where it is comfortable.

Yes, that’s how change works
I can't do it my buzz is low and sounds nothing like yours
