- Have you ever wondered how footballers communicate with each other or why there are so many polyglots in soccer? If you’re anything like me, then you’ve surely seen interviews with footballers speaking foreign languages and noticed that the sport has a high concentration of polyglots. So for today's video, I wanted to explore the role of languages in soccer, how soccer players learn languages, and polyglot footballers. Plus, we'll talk about some of the most famous soccer players who you may not have known were polyglots--including Zlatan Ibrahimović and Romelu Lukaku.

Tenis, for exemple, has many polyglots. Rafael Nadal speaks English, French and some Italian. Roger Federer speaks English, German, French and some Spanish - he's a swiss native and lived in South Africa.
Non ci piove! L'anno prossimo, vorrei visitare Imola.
Most countries speak more than one language. Just because americans only know english doesnt mean every country is the same. Football players needs to learn the language of the country they play in, its easier for them to communicate with everybody then. And also, in Sweden everyone learns english by deafault, plus a choosen language in school (french/german/spanish) and we also can understand norwegian and danish. And its probably the same for players like Dejan Lovren, english from school, italian as a nearby country, other balkan language cause the are alike plus the language of the country hes playing in. Most countries in EU learn english in school, at least in the northern parts. I know for example that the spaniards and italians dont, but the dutch and the whole of scandinavia is almost fluent. I've never spoken to an american or english person in my whole life, but i hope you understand this englsih i just wrote.
Haha you've right Alexander, maybe this is just my perspective as an American!
This isn't true, in Italy (or at least in my region) we study English since we are in kindergarten
Quick note. Italians do in fact study English at school , but as in many countries, lessons are heavily focused on grammar.
In northern countries, media are also available in English, and kids can take in the language with no effort from a young age, unlike in Italy (unfortunately).
