Thanks Grant, you made this possible. It's almost two years later since your video and some of the page progression you describe has changed a bit. Go figure! Thanks again.
I put your vid on one screen and the FCC "Red Tape n' Hoops" pages on the other. The FCC could sure use a better system. Had I not had your tutorial, it would have taken me quite a bit longer and several shots...plus yelling. Thanks. Got it done in less than 20 minutes!
subbed. I've watched other YT videos on this subject but it appears they're obsolete. Their screen shots are different than yours but they uploaded their vids months earlier than you. So, I will be using your method. Reading some comments from the older vids had me wondering if there was a more current version of how to get a GMRS license and viola! there you are. Took some notes and I can work between two computers side by side in case I have to pause your lesson while I get licensed on the other. Will probably wait until after Christmas before attempting. Thanks for a great presentation, advice and handy links.
Hello there, awesome video! What is the difference between those two forms, when you’re trying to get your FRN number? That’s where I’m stuck. I’m not sure which one to click on. For me, I click on the individual, but then I’m presenting with those two forms afterwards. Thanks very much.
@@GrantButler hello there, if you go three minutes and 56 seconds into the video, you’ll find the two different forms you have to choose from. Thanks very much.
@@GrantButler hey Grant, I believe the timestamp would be at three minutes and 56 seconds. To give you better context, you were selecting what form to fill out, to get the FRN number. You selected the individual license, and then there were two options. I didn’t understand what the difference was between the two forms. I hope this helps.
Great video. I can't access that second link as when I get to the site it says that there is maintenance. This message has been up for 3 days as far as I know. Do you have any info on it?
unfortunately this process was so confusing for me when I made this video, I'm not sure I'd be much help. I'm really sorry. Only thing I can say is to follow the steps meticulously because it can be so confusing.
I had the same problem, following this video I ended up with an entire second FCC account tied to my SS#. Thanks for nothing, dude. This video is dangerous.
Is there ANY advantage to a obtaining this license if you already have a technical, general, or amateur extra license? Can you use a GMRS radio if you have a ham license?
@@GrantButler I know it depends on the radio but about how far can you receive a repeater message with a GMRS radio as I am sure you can tell I know very little about this subject.
@kygent508 I don't know much more, but I think it depends on the power of the repeater, and the conditions. Clouds, Trees, cars, bldgs & people reduce your range. But actual numbers I don't know. Sorry
After looking into it a little bit; the FCC can inspect the equipment, or raido. When you said "radio station" that refers to the equipment it's self, not the building it's located in. The FCC can actually inspect ANY radio equipment; including a $5 walkie-talkie from Walmart. So technically, yes.
Thanks Grant, you made this possible. It's almost two years later since your video and some of the page progression you describe has changed a bit. Go figure! Thanks again.
@@mrbumblehill4596 I'm glad the video still helps. I was getting messages that they had made changes 6 months later

I was thinking the same thing when I went through the process, so I knew this video needed to exist
Honestly without this video, it is extremely confusing to navigate the FCC website. This made it easy and doable, thanks!!
I'm glad it was helpful!
Just shared this with a friend, thank you
@@williamwiese9963 so happy to help!
Great presentation. Thank you.
No problem! Hope it hasn't changed too much since I made the video
@@GrantButler I went through it last night myself. Just as you layed it out. You made it really easy
Thank you for the video ! It made it easy to apply and register !
Glad you found the video!
really good info, I have my HAM radio so it was easy to add GRMS - Thanks
Awesome! Thanks for the complement
Great tutorial. Thank You!

Awesome! So glad you found the video!
That's easy. Let's me use my walkies and how long good is the license??
10 years
I got the midland and I have my license but only if you have a repeater capacity handheld or mobile
Nice
As of right now . The website is down to register. Hopefully it comes back up . I just bought some radios I’m trying to use on an event
Jeez, that's not good timing
Someone told me a few minute ago, the FRS/GMRS radios are now illegal. Have you heard about that, or anything similar?
@@mariobarracano270 no. I have received no notice from the FCC who manages it. You may want to check their sources.

Typical government 🤦♂️
I tried following your info and due to the Govt website I wound up with two FRNs.
Also, I never made it to the License Manager......Can you help?

Do u need license in my village, Can it just work without license.
It will always work. It's just whether your government has laws regulating it or not.
Dose the FCC give you your call sign after your payment?
No. That's HAM radio
Is there ANY advantage to a obtaining this license if you already have a technical, general, or amateur extra license? Can you use a GMRS radio if you have a ham license?
No, gmrs is below a HAM, if you have a HAM you can use GMRS. Gmrs is the next step up from CB Radio

Does this allow the FCC to execute a search of your "radio station" as I understand a HAM license does?
I'm pretty sure it does not fit the same qualifications, but when signing up make sure to read all the terms and conditions to be sure.

All you get is an FRN number ? Nothing more ?
No, you have to get your GMRS license too. Your FRN is just used on the website
