Thank you, thank you for this incredible journey. I can't wait to go to the 100 videos together. I came here when you had only had a few subscribers and it has been a ride. Seeing you react made me want to visit some shows myself and I did, so you helped me along my journey of musicals I know nothing about. I love watching your video's back even if I have seen them three times already. Paticuraly the Starkid onces. You are very kind in your replies on the socials and that is something very uncommen and very welcome. Keep on going and this youtube Family surely will grow twice as big. You deserve it. Much love from the Netherlands❤😁😊
Oh great, now I'm crying 😢 *In Elphaba's voice* "I hope you're happy, I hope you're happy now" hahaha Thank you for saying that and being part of this family from the start, Max. Much love all the way to the Netherlands 🥰
Justice for Sweeney Todd!! All kidding aside your channel is so fun to watch. I've had it on in the background while cleaning today and this is my 3rd :p
Love a ranking where nothing is hated on. Just cause something isn’t a top five doesn’t mean it isn’t good, and you did an amazing job of giving even the last on the list its credit.
Fiddler" opened on Broadway on Sept. 22, 1964, and ran for 3,242 performances, making it the longest running Broadway musical of its time. In 1965 it won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score - the true trifecta of the industry.
I want to say your Hadestown reaction is probably my favorite of your videos. Your fangirling, and that little “oh no” right after Hermes introduced Orpheus.
If you like the last five years then you’ll probably like parade, it’s also by Jason Robert Brown, and he somehow goes harder on the music and compositions It’s also ✨Devastating✨ Like I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s the saddest thing I’ve seen, the revival recording doesn’t quite do the show justice, as it’s missing crucial dialogue moments so I recommend starting with the Original Broadway version Also if you want more context I’d recommend seeing the parade in concert video with Jermey Jordan
I'm so glad to see Black Friday at the top of your Starkid list! That was actually my first Starkid show. I knew Angela from Smosh, and as soon as I found out she was in Black Friday, I had to watch it. I was a bit concerned as I knew Starkid is big on their parody musicals, but I absolutely adored Black Friday. That was the show that started my Starkid obsession, and I'm so glad to see that somebody else enjoys it as well.
1. Spring Awakening (the bootleg of the deaf west production is maybe my favourite thing ever) 2. Falsettos 3. Hadestown (the music is just too good) 4. The last five years 5. Bare 6. Heathers (saw it live twice, incredible) 7 Hamilton 8. Sweeney Todd 9. Mean Girls 10. Waitress
I’ve loved your channel from the beginning! It genuinely brings me so much joy to watch your reactions whether I know the show or not! Here are some great shows to react to in the future: 1. Pippin 2. Parade 3. Once on This Island 4. Spamalot 5. Avenue Q 6. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee 7. Ragtime 8. The Drowsy Chaperone 9. Sister Act 10. You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown Maybe you know some of these already, but if there are any that you don’t I’m sure you’ll love them! Keep up the good work!!!
@@Barbara2.0 Of course!!! Your channel is one of my favorites and I’m always recommending it to my other theater kid friends! Also, if you do end up listening to any of the shows I listed, I would suggest listening to the most recent cast recordings of them because they are generally the highest quality!
It's official...you are no longer a musical theater newbie! Now i eagerly await your reaction to Schmigadoon! as you flex your reference-detecting skills and demonstrate your newly honed broadway mastery!
Hadestown I assure you’d get STUNNED seeing LIVE!!!! So excited for you XD P.S my other personal favs not seen on your list are Book of Mormon & Miss Saigon 🫣
Not a ranking but I always love your Sondheim reactions. The commentary and analysis on stuff that I only get at my 10th listening is amazing. And of course the Starkid reactions are a treat
HADESTOWN IS FIRST YESSSSS! SO IS BLACK FRIDAY FOR STARKID WOOOO :D I'm so glad these got first, they're amazing (The choreography in Hadestown is amazing you're gonna love it! I saw it almost two years ago it's stayed my favorite musical the whole time since)
You will LOVE Hadestown on stage, I’ve been to New York twice and seen it four times over those two trips 😂 I’m seeing it in February when it comes to London, amped to see who’s gonna be in the cast!
Hi Barbara!! What is your nickname? Barb? Barbie? Babs? I'm just curious. Maybe you hate all those and just go by Barbara. Maybe you go by Bobby. I don't know! Anyway I'm at the beginning of your rank, still above the top 20, and I'm loving it. I've heard very few of these musicals as well. But I am slightly bummed Carrie is so low on the list but that's fine. It's preference. My favorite reaction of yours was the stage version of into the woods. Because once you got it... You got it. I just brought my son to see it as his very first live show experience this year and he had an absolute blast and got to meet a couple of the community theater cast members, including the wolf / prince who was his absolute favorite and took a picture with him. I would like him to make a small request though. You can find online without a doubt, Jerry Orbach singing the Lullaby of Broadway at the Tonys. And I know next to nothing about the show that song is from, but I would love to see your reaction to that performance. Because leading up to the song he has one of my favorite phrases for all of musical theater fans.
My favourite was the Sunday in the Park with George one. A few years ago I wrote my bachelor's thesis on the portrayal of artists in that musical. It was fun to see someone discover it for the first time! Love your reactions, looking forward to the next 50.
Wow what a perfect welcome your son had to theatre! I actually go by all those, each group of friends/colleagues call me a different nickname. Most common ones are Babs, Barb and B though ;)
Ranking is very hard, but Next to Normal is for me without a doubt the number one. That show broke me and the number I'm alive is my all time played song on spotify. But Superboy and the Invisable Girl and I miss the Mountains are the songs who just take my heart and turn it around on the best worst way possible. Loved your reaction of it as well. My favorite Starkid musical is the TGHDLM. It was my first show of starkid, the week I watched it for the first time I had watched it 6 times and felt like a musical zombie myself. I now know that show by heart. And it gave me some incredible Starkid family friends. If I had to give a second place I would go for Heaters I think. I say no from the West End Production is my favorite female lead song, it just gives me chills. And heaters is just pure choas which suites me. Starkid their second is Spies are Forever. In my opinion the most coherent soundtrack of all their productions. Love the personal motives in the music for each character and the story is well pretty much perfect. Besides Laurens Flipidiflapidif*ck lives rent free in my head. Third place I would give to Come From Away. I had the pleasure to see it life and well it's like you said. It's such a warm feeling of goodness it gives you. And the scent of Irish music in it, can't go wrong with that. Starkid thrid place would go to Twisted. I dream of becoming a writer for musicals and theater myself later in life and well, if I can write a character as good guy Jafar I am as happy as I good be. The whole story just works so well I love their version more than the original, which is one of my all time favorite movies. And Dylan, love you Dylan. Some musicals that are also my favorite but you haven't had the oppertunity for to react to is - Tarzan, it was my first musical ever and the songs go hard. - Les Misarable, not everybody cup of tea. But the songs stars, on my own and Javar's death song make me feel so damm alive. - And ofcourse Hamilton, which is I think the best musical ever made. It isn't my favorite, but every song works so well, the characters are so amazing and Linn is just a incredible writer. I know you have seen this one because of your incredible Wicked and Hamilton mix up. Never forget.😂 But Hamilton had to be on this list
Lol here are some more musical recommendations :D 1. Bright Star 2. The Band's Visit 3. Lizzie 4. Dogfight 5. Ghost 6. American Psycho 7. Preludes 8. Big Fish 9. Once 10. Spamalot I have more but i think this is a good list to just recommend a few lol Also cant wait for The Mad Ones and Alice by Heart reactions!
One thing I must say: I want everyone to know that Patrick Bateman is played by Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter in the musical. He also played Andrew Jackson in Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, which is another good one.
Just discovered your channel and am loving these reactions! Would love to recommend Caroline or Change (original cast w/ Tonya Pinkins and Anika Noni Rose) and The Color Purple (Cynthia Erivo and J.Hud revival), two of my three favorites (along with Hadestown!).
We have pretty similar taste! Not all the same but my favorites that you've reacted to are Great Comet, Next to Normal, Hadestown, Fun Home, Spring Awakening, Falsettos, SpongeBob, and all the Sondheim. I was a little sad to see SpongeBob so low haha but I get it. If you haven't seen the proshot I do recommend it though, the cast is so talented and earnest and they do such fun things with the set and costumes. Also I was surprised Dear Evan Hansen was that far in the rankings! Definitely one of my least favorite shows personally
Barbara, thank you so much for this channel and your rankings, i was so happy to see spring awakening as second!!! (if you want i can get you five different slime tutorials of the deaf west production, cough cough, itll change your life i promise) For your hundredth video you should definitely react to the musical EPIC which is still in creation but is going to be 40 songs split into 9 sagas- its a retelling of the Odyssey and only 2 sagas are officially out as of now but the snippets of the rest and those 2 sagas are ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR and i just know it would be your cup of tea!! SUPER excited for alice by heart and the mad ones, they will both DESTROY you in the BEST way!!! :)
Hey Barbara. Congrats on 50 episodes and 9000 subscribers. I have absolutely loved watching your love for theatre grow throughout these episodes. You are incredibly insightful when it comes to the hidden meanings of shows and theorising plots and characters is a blast. I do t really get to share my love for theatre with anyone so watching you discuss it and learn is so cool. Here’s some more suggestions coz I always put down some 😂😂: 25th annual Putnam county spelling Bee, Anastasia, Drowsy Chaperone, Bonnie and Clyde, She Loves Me, Finding Neverland.
Happy 50th video! My favorite reaction of yours is The Great Comet. It was the way I found your channel (I was obsessed with The Great Comet at the time) and I've rewatched it three or four times since. Next to Normal is a close second! I can't wait to see what you do next 😊
i've loved being along for this journey! i think the first video of yours i watched was the guy who didnt like musicals (because im a major starkid fan) and while i know most of the musicals you've watched, some of my favourite videos are the ones where you react to a musicals that i've never heard of either! it's so cool to be able to experience a new musical with you, and i've found some of my favourites through watching your reactions, like ride the cyclone and the great comet! plus its always a joy to see someone experience a Sondheim for the first time haha! plus plus! i feel like we need you to experience the absolute mess that is the rocky horror picture show, its crazy, like possibly too crazy but the songs are great! and it always has silly commentary from the audience and the narrators when you watch a live recording (cough cough west end 2015 version cough cough) i know you prefer not to watch unofficial recordings on the channel but i think its a fun one to watch in your own time.
As it's my all time favourite, it makes me happy seeing Into the Woods rank so highly here. i first saw it in 199...4, I think, and loved it ever since. Plus it's responsible for me meetnig most of the people I consider my closest friends, so that's another layer of special to it. And I'm totally with you on the excitement for seeing Hadestown, I'm going in April and I cannot wait!
Hi, Barbara! I'm not usually a commenter, but your videos really bring out the theater nerd side of me. This was fun ranking, though we'll have to agree to disagree on some things ;). When you mentioned the Newsies London Revival I was hyped because I also got to see it back in March! The part with the chandeliers in King of New York is truly amazing, it's gonna live in my mind rent free for the rest of my life
This is literally one of my favorite channels. I am a theater performer and watching you watch these and the way you analyze everything is so entertaining. Thanks for doing this. Love from Cape Town.
U should watch the professional recording of Falsettos, I enjoyed the show but didn’t particularly love it, then I watched the recording…. And omg. It’s so freaking goodddd
I've been subscribed to you for at least 2 years now and even though I haven't been very consistent with watching all your videos, I always greatly enjoy the ones I do (now I feel like a need to catch up on those I've missed haha). I love hearing your observations and analyses and am always amazed with how you're so easily able to see it all within the lyrics, because that is something I quite struggle with. So, big congrats to 50 episodes and here's to 50 more!! Also here are my top 10 musicals in a very loose order and I can only reccomend those you haven't seen yet for next videos :D 1. Les Misérables (I love it so much, finally got to see it last month and cried the whole time) 2. Ghost Quartet (another Dave Malloy show, so wonderfully weird and brilliant) 3. Starry 4. Spring Awakening 5. Hamilton (basic but oh well) 6. Hadestown 7. Newsies 8. Little Shop of Horrors 9. Beetlejuice 10. Book of Mormon (might not be perfect but 1st show I've seen live so I'm biased)
Love watching your videos! You are so good at analyzing and going into depth about the music, lyrics, and motifs of every show you watch. My favorites of yours have been Into the Woods, as that was my first introduction to you, and Cabaret because of how in-depth you went. I could literally go on forever just analyzing the song Cabaret and the ways it can be interpreted. Your next Sondheim show should be A Little Night Music, specifically the 2009 revival cast recording. Then four non Sondheim suggestions I have for you are The Producers, Ragtime, Sister Act, and Miss Siagon.
I’m newer to the channel, so I have a lot to catch up on and I’m so excited to do so. I’ve watched your Into the Woods and Be More Chill reactions so far and it is so fun seeing you be surprised and try to work out the plots- reminds me of all the times I’ve resigned myself to reading the Wikipedia summary of a musical to figure out what is going on in the plot while listening to the album! It’s probably already on your list, but I have to recommend my most favorite musical of all time, the one and only, Les Miserables. It’s sad and hopeful and gorgeous, and there are so many possible cast recordings of it, I don’t even know which one you should react to. Maybe the 25th or 10th anniversary concert versions? My first was the movie, which I love but which isn’t the strongest version of it. (Aaron Tveit as Enjolras makes it all worth it though! He was also Gabe in Next to Normal- and Les Mis is adapted from a novel by Victor Hugo, the same author who wrote the novel Hunchback of Notre Dame was adapted from, if that tempts you!) 😊
Update: I have watched more videos, picked up on a few les mis references, and am properly embarrassed to have rec’d a show you already know! But I did get back into starkid because of your starkid reactions so thank you! To make up for my ignorance, another two recs: Pippin (which I recently saw and loved, and is by the music writer of Wicked), and Catch Me If You Can and Moulin Rouge (for more Aaron Tveit) 😅
Love this video as always. You always have great insights. Since I know you like Lauren Lopez (now married to Joey) may I suggest two things that showcase her acting chops. One is Little White Lie which was a StarKid project pre-A Very Potter Musical. There are a few scenes in it that show just how talented she is (in my opinion). The other (although there are other examples I am sure) is a film you can find on RUclips called Passenger Seat. It is not a StarKid show, but Lauren is in it and is really good. The show itself is a bit ridiculous (in a good way - or so I personally think), but Lauren knows when to make you laugh and feel other emotions as well. There is a scene that may be uncomfortable to watch (for the most part) and could trigger some people, but Lauren's acting is stellar. There are other things she is in as well, but just giving you a couple to start with. 😉
My favorite moment of you is reacting to Nightmare Time - Time Bastard revelation that Ted is the homeless man. You nearly fell off your chair, it was great.
The London cast recording of bat boy! I love bat boy so much it was my secret favorite in high school because nobody knew about it. The original is good but the London is incredible!
Okay, I finished the list. Sadly I was talking into my phone to leave my last comment while you're video is playing on my TV, so I missed two or three of your lower rankings. And I'm quite sure you knew several if not many musicals before starting to react on the show. But I have to know this... are you acquainted with the original Broadway soundtrack for The Lion King? I've seen that show twice live, once in the Queen Victoria Theater in Canada. And it is the best show I have ever seen live. Didn't saying much since I've only seen 45 professionally done. But it doesn't change the impact the music has by itself on me, and how effective the show is when it's done right in a big beautiful theater that can sustain it. Second time I saw the show it was in Seattle in a smaller theater and it was much less ... well, just less. If for some reason you aren't acquainted with that soundtrack you must listen to it. And although it is not a musical, he'll there's practically any dialogue in it at all, I also recommend that you react to the Woodmen which is about an hour long and based on L frank Baum material.
Maybe I’m showing my age, but for my two cents some of the best musicals of all time are fiddler on the roof, my fair lady, Oliver, and the original West side story.
Thank you, thank you for this incredible journey. I can't wait to go to the 100 videos together. I came here when you had only had a few subscribers and it has been a ride. Im late to this but my favorite reaction is the into the woods video, as its the one that introduced me to your channel
Justice for Sweeney Todd!! All kidding aside your channel is so fun to watch. I've had it on in the background while cleaning today and this is my 3rd :p
Yay thank you! And welcome to the channel! 🎉
Love a ranking where nothing is hated on. Just cause something isn’t a top five doesn’t mean it isn’t good, and you did an amazing job of giving even the last on the list its credit.

plus plus! i feel like we need you to experience the absolute mess that is the rocky horror picture show, its crazy, like possibly too crazy but the songs are great! and it always has silly commentary from the audience and the narrators when you watch a live recording (cough cough west end 2015 version cough cough) i know you prefer not to watch unofficial recordings on the channel but i think its a fun one to watch in your own time.
I freaking LOVE hearing about people discovering shows with me. Thanks for coming along for the ride ❤
I loved this reaction video and I just can’t wait for Alice by heart it has to be one of my favorites
You've got great taste, my friend! Coming soon...
Hi, Barbara! I'm not usually a commenter, but your videos really bring out the theater nerd side of me. This was fun ranking, though we'll have to agree to disagree on some things ;). When you mentioned the Newsies London Revival I was hyped because I also got to see it back in March! The part with the chandeliers in King of New York is truly amazing, it's gonna live in my mind rent free for the rest of my life
Glad to see you in the comments though ❤ And same here, the chandeliers and "Once and for All" were absolutely fantastic moments
This is literally one of my favorite channels. I am a theater performer and watching you watch these and the way you analyze everything is so entertaining. Thanks for doing this. Love from Cape Town.
If my heart could sing it would do it as I read this comment. Thank you so so much, lovely ❤
Also here are my top 10 musicals in a very loose order and I can only reccomend those you haven't seen yet for next videos :D
1. Les Misérables (I love it so much, finally got to see it last month and cried the whole time)
2. Ghost Quartet (another Dave Malloy show, so wonderfully weird and brilliant)
3. Starry
4. Spring Awakening
5. Hamilton (basic but oh well)
6. Hadestown
7. Newsies
8. Little Shop of Horrors
9. Beetlejuice
Noted on the suggestions! And thank you for your kind words, means the world ❤
I’m newer to the channel, so I have a lot to catch up on and I’m so excited to do so.
Always up for more Lauren, of course. Thanks for the reccs!
For little shop of horrors, have you seen the film? It’s my favorite
Not yet, need to fix that ;)
Yay! Congrats! You deserve all the praise!
Id say my fave reactions is Ride the Cyclone and Nightmare Time
You're too kind, THANK YOU ❤
@Barbara2.0 No problem!!
My favorite moment of you is reacting to Nightmare Time - Time Bastard revelation that Ted is the homeless man. You nearly fell off your chair, it was great.
This channel truly is a health and safety hazard hahaha
Love your channel and happy that it's growing!! Wish all the best for you!!
Aww thank you! And right back at you, lovely ❤
Do the clockmakers daughter next so that I can see more reactions from you lol
Nice ranking. If you like Cyclone, you might want to check out Bat Boy: The Musical. Odd concept, well executed. Fun score. Thanks for your channel!
Also, Urinetown.
The London cast recording of bat boy! I love bat boy so much it was my secret favorite in high school because nobody knew about it. The original is good but the London is incredible!
I definitely think falsettos is heightened by the proshot
Excited to hear your thoughts!
50 already?! Do Bat Boy, pleeeaase?!
I am confused, but doesn't matter. I like you.
I was kinda waiting for 25th place to be 25th annual putnam spelling bee 😂😂
Hahaha that one will be part of the next 50, hopefully 😉
Rip marine mazzie (Carrie’s mom in Carrie)
Maybe I’m showing my age, but for my two cents some of the best musicals of all time are fiddler on the roof, my fair lady, Oliver, and the original West side story.
Yasssss
As we reach 50, has your friend retracted their statement about you knowing nothing about musicals?
I know more musicals than she does now so she better retract it soon hahaha
What a coincidence I also think Be more Chill is the worst😂
