So helpfull and timely! I'm with the Longview Film Club and was literally starting on some difficult end-credits wondering how to use my custom Fusion title effects without a ton of copying and pasting and then possibly altering timing on animations. You saved me a ton of time! Also wanted to say that your gentle, easy manner and humor makes your channel very accessible. You do more good for others than your know! Thanks bunches!
Top-shelf work, sir! Thank you so much for explaining everything so clearly and concisely. I learned about seven things I had no idea about, and this is going to be a huge help with a video I’m planning.
This is brilliant! I've recently started creating templates and other stuff to speed up my editing, so this is perfect timing! Your channel is my absolute favourite for learning things with DaVinci Resolve! And you are definitely the main reason my editing had come such a long way over the past few months. Thanks so much!
Thanks. I've been looking for a way to create text overlay with one set of text left-aligned and another right-aligned within a text box. I made two text nodes overlaying each other and it's done!
That was awesome. Can you do something similar for a video fx? For example, I often want a slow pan of a stationary video clip. It would be awesome to have this saved as a video effect instead of doing it manually in keyframes each time.
This is fantasatic Casey. I was able to make my own Template... Yea! Is there a way to make and edit a master template if I need to change say 30-100 istances of a title in a project based on that template?
Thanks for the tutorial. Im trying HARD to change from premiere to davinci and these kind of things are the ones that hold me up. In premiere, all these 75 steps are stored with ONE click. ONE CLICK! (On the text essentials, save as a template). I think this program is VERY powerful but it's just not user-friendly for some stuff. I'll finish my edit and i'm over.
What this guy does can also be done easily in the editing section, it is not necessary to enter Fusion to simply move a text, on the Davinci page you find tutorials explained in a simple way, do not pay attention to all the pseudo tutorials . that you find on RUclips, this is the worst example of a Davinci tutorial, don't be discouraged.
Hey Casey, how to make text appear over time? Write a segment and select a timeframe for letters to appear like they were just typed. Ty for your videos!
Love those video’s they have helped me so much 😍 Regards to this video I have made the drfx file, bit when I wil take over in fusion the text: Unable to install “my file” The selected path does not seem to be a valid template bundle format. Is there anyone who can help me please 🙏
Hi Casey, thanks so much for your informative, easy to follow videos. I was wondering if this feature is only available on the Studio version. You are on Resolve 17 Studio, and I am on 18 public version so I see some subtle differences in things. When I install the template, it doesn't appear in the Effects/Titles.
Weird. When I open the composition in Fusion it won't let me add nodes. If I put it in the timeline on the edit page I can add/subtract nodes in Fusion.
Superb, just what I need, and perfectly explained as ever. I've just upgraded to Studio and it's crashing when it renders my usual (built-in) chapter titles, so I need to rebuild simpler ones. (Or buy an eGPU, but I need another hit video or two to pay for that.)
This is very cool!! Thanks for all the videos you make. I am self teaching myself using the free Davinci Resolve software. I try to add something new to every video I create. Hopefully, this shows some kind of improvement over time. Really appreciate your detailed videos which I find very helpful 💜🎬
This was great! Going through your tutorial now as well. Question though, when I pull in this title in another project, it says media not found. What am I doing wrong?
I would have killed for this nearly a year ago when I was struggling to create this type of editable fusion title. Previous guides I found had exporting the macro, making folders inside the DR installation folder, and copying the macro file there. The export process was longer and more involved. But I cannot complain too much; I learned to open the exported file and edit the underlying data to make simple changes or re-open in Fusion to make more detailed changes then re-export. I would really like to see you do this with a more complicated example. The one I created has a transparent background, an opaque light blue stripe at the bottom to give text a slight background color to show up on any clip, with three text fields, two static, one dynamic to update the text. With my limited Fusion knowledge, this was a bugger to create. Maybe if you do something similar, I can pick up a few tips and tricks.
just finished my first fancy-schmancy intro/logo title yesterday after a week or so of head-scratching and headdesk.gif with a lot of confusing elements to a complete newby, but I worked around it. had to combine 3D text/extrusions with a 2D element, with motion and active lighting. it's only as complicated as I make it, but I wanted an impact. you helped with that, so thanks. cheers for the upload, this will come in handy for my workflow I'm sure. stay cool dude.
WOW, that was amazing I really would love to learn this to do a Split title, havet o simply spend an hour to do it, will save and try myself thank you,.
Hello! Loving your videos so far. I'm having an issue though adding the template to DaVinci. When I drag the .drfx file it said "Unable to Install"... The path does not seem to be a valid template format. Any insight on whether I'm missing a step or why I would have these issues? Thanks all!
So I have followed this exactly and I keep getting the error "macro in incorrect bundle format". I even added a folder for Templates and then archived it but it still will not allow me to continue. Help!

Fantastic set of videos you are providing. Thank you very much. With regards to text ... Is there a way to emphasize one of the words in the text box?....(I would like to italicize one of the words without italicizing all of them.) I figured out a "brute force" technique by simply overlaying two text boxes, but it takes some fiddling to get the inserted word to align properly.... I wondered if there is a more elegant solution. (It would be neat to animate the word too if possible (i.e. change color, jiggle, rotate, etc) Thanks again (By the way, your humor is fantastic!!... )
Managed to follow up until importing the compressed .drfx file. No matter what, it will not accept it. Is there not a way to skip this and just import after working on it? Like straight to the timeline?

Hi Casey! Today by chance I discovered some very small icons in the fusion UI, top left when you edit a text, it's great that you can move each letter with the mouse and other things. It would be very good for a video ;). I really like your channel!! 🙌
@Casey Faris I massively appreciate all of these excellent videos. I have a question with regards to Templates as I am relatively new to Resolve ( have done a minor amount of Fusion) If one buys a subscription to something like MotionArray, they don't seem to give you things like "Title Packs" but Templates instead. It appears that you use a Template by opening it as a project. I would assume that you could only use 1 Template at a time and not have the ability to combine features of multiple Templates. Is there a workaround for this? To me this is a big negative for the use of Templates and I probably should stick to "plugin" / Title Pack /imports. Is my understanding wrong?
Hello Casey, I've been trying to create macro on mac computer, but I am unable to do so. Is there certain way to do that? Please let me know. I dying to know the trick.
Awesome tutorial and very clear! It would be nice if DaVinci Resolve had a slightly more elegant way of creating macros (exporting them and creating a zip seems a little janky), but I guess it works :)
You saved me, been looking for something like this for a while, finally know how to create our own custom settings. Thanks, Also, it would be great if you could make a video on different kind of macro's and custom settings we can create in Davinci.

Resolve 18 is still beta, right? Wasn't planning on upgrading right away. Have too many projects in the works and don't have the time. Are all the videos from now on going to be in 18? Will they still be compatible with 17?
Hmm. not working for me for some reason. I've tried 5X, following the directions to a tee. The only difference I'm seeing is that when I pop up the 'create new macro' window, my window is labeled "Macrofesto - MacroTool1*" whereas yours is called "Macro Editor - MacroTool1*". I also don't have 7-zip installed and I used 'send to - compressed zipped folder'. I changed the extension as you did after zipping, dropped it into the fusion workspace, got the same popup, selected 'install', but when I go to the edit workspace and look under Effects/Toolbox/Titles, it's nowhere to be found. Any ideas? It would be nice to be able to do this but for now I have to give up.
