- Colombian naval officials monitoring a sunken Spanish ship laden with treasure have discovered two other historical shipwrecks nearby, President Iván Duque has announced.
The San José galleon was sunk by the British in 1708 near Colombia's Caribbean port of Cartagena.
The wreckage was located in 2015.
It has been described as the holy grail of shipwrecks, as the ship was carrying one of the largest amounts of valuables ever to have been lost at sea.

There is precedence, however. Whatever your argument, the last Caribbean wreck booty went to Spain.
An American company spent a lot of $$$ to recover it. The gold was taken from Peru but Peru was then part of the Kingdom of Spain, which does indeed still exist.
It was ruled that Peru had no claim over a Spanish ship or its contents. In this case, the gold is from Bolivia, maybe? Regardless, Spain will get it.

Spain claims Galleons are war ships but the San Jose was just transporting treasure & goods so their claim is invalid. The law says the finder can file a claim with the country the ship was found in and Columbia's jurisdiction ends 3 miles from shore. The country receives a percentage of recovered items sold, maybe 20%-25% The finder has to work the claim within a time period or forfeit their rights.
There were 64 Cannons on the San Jose. The Spaniards always had Conquistadores Fully Armed to transport their Booty. Remember, they were always at war with either the British or the Pirates! It's not like Jacques Cousteau finding Gold. The Conquistadores were Rapping and Pillaging. Then they'd send Missionaries to convert the Natives into the Catholic Church. Notice all of South America speaks Spanish and are Catholic.

The San Jose was always considered a galleon by the Spanish government. Neither of the two newly found vessels are considered galleons, however. One was identified as a schooner. ?📚?
