What he's also upset about is that Joey is his best friend (as is Rachel) and it was only recently that Joey had reassured Ross that nothing was going to happen between him and Rachel.

The whole script was screwed up. I don't think majority of people liked season 9 through the beginning of season 10. Ross and Rachel began as a thing together, and people probably wanted to see them finally stay together (which they did). The whole Joey and Rachel was poor planning, and just wrong on so many levels.
