Hopefully I made the topic interesting, given most of the bosses are only around for a short time! Look forward to two Zelda videos next weekend on the Adventure of Link ^^
I love that you can still make really in depth videos on a game from 1986. It really shows how well designed this game is. It truly was ahead of its time.
Well, if we're adding Patra to this ranking, then okay. 8,) Dodongo - Sorry Dodongo. You're an iconic monster, and you are the first puzzle boss in the series, but you don't do anything here. The biggest offender of Dodongo is how everytime you fight him after his first encounter in each quest, you always have to fight 3 of them, which just makes it take longer, with nothing happening still. If it wasn't for the bomb bstun trick you can do to get more bombs, it would be a waster of bombs too. Dodongo here is definitely a creature that got better over time. 7.) Digdogger - I like what you have to do with this boss, it is another puzzle boss. However, as long as you have the Magical Sword, he dies too fast. Even when he starts splitting into 3, as long as you use the boomerang as soon as he splits, he's already lost. I do actually like that he doesn't split the first time, as it makes for a nice surprise later in the game, but he needs to more punishing. Surely they won't go overboard with that critique next time he's used... right... eh... 6.) Ganon - Honestly, I probably should rank Ganon here at the bottom. The fact that he's invisible for the whole fight basically just turns this into a button masher and hope for the best. Not a good concept for a final fight. He only gets above the previous 2 because he's at least a threat. 5.) Aquamentus - I actually think he's a good first boss. His main attack can seem intimidating to a newcomer, and if you don't have arrows or sword beams, getting up close can seem a bit daunting in the early game. But if you take time to prepare with ranged attacks and a Magical Shield which blocks his projectiles, you can make him helpless. Nice play of power dynamics. His big flaw is that whenever he's used again, he never gets any upgrades, like many of the other bosses, hurting his reputation beyond his first encounter. He's honestly a great first boss, but a disappointing one outside of that, which is unfortunate. 4.) Gohma - Okay, if only the red Gohma existed, she would be at the bottom, even with its status as a puzzle boss, due to dying in half a second. Thankfully, the blue variant that appears after that first encounter forces you to actually play into the fight. Once you have to actually start avoiding his shots while finding opportunities to attack, especially if fireball statues come into play, makes for a pretty decent fight, even if not that hard still. 3.) Patra - Patra is actually a really good mini boss. With two different variants to run into, there's a fair bit of careful play at hand. It's certainly one of the more dynamic fights in the game, and the 3d rotating one is actually really cool for 1986. A surprisingly engaging fight. 2.) Manhandla - You might've hand second thoughts of placing Manhandla so high in the end, but I didn't. I like how his power dynamic shifts through the fight. At first, he's slow, but with a lot of firepower. As he weakens, and loses firepower, he powers back up through sheer speed. It makes you wonder if those heads ever complain about where to go. This adds an engaging layer to the fight that most bosses here don't have. And while, yes, a single bomb can instakill him, the fact that failure will most likely push him to max speed can make for a great panic moment, keeping Manhandla, in my eyes, a surprisingly dynamic fight for this game's standards. 1.) Gleeok - But yes, nothing beats Gleeok. Of all the bosses in this game, Gleeok definitely feels the most defined. The challenge is honestly genius. His weak spots, his heads, are where the fireballs come from, and they'll generally appear immediately after the previous extinguishes, meaning learning to time your positions and movements to keep the fireball on screen as much as possible is a very effective means of setting up strategy, and once his heads start coming off and fighting as spirits, it can become a very overwhelming fight, which is very satsifying to come out on top for.
@@BillySYT I have a feeling Artorias and Gael could be in there though! Nevertheless, I’d love to see it and I love seeing the channel grow! Big props brother!
im pretty confused on why they couldnt have a recolored aquamentus with a slightly altered hp pool and pattern in dungeon 7. Did they just run out of coding space and couldn't make anymore changes? Honestly, even if that was the case, they probably should have just put patra there instead.
I wouldn't be shocked if coding space was the issue. I don't have a lot of game design knowledge, but it feels like Zelda really pushed the boundaries for the NES in that sense.
I think that greeoks from TOTK are a fusion of a greeok whith aquamentus. it has the name and multiple heads of greeoks and the wings and something similar to a horn like aquamentus.
So Dodongo can also be killed by having a bomb explode on him, and taking him out with a sword. This will make him drop 4 bombs everytime. Also I cringe when you are fighting my Aquabuddy with full health and not just sword beaming him from theo ther side of the room in the spot where he can not hit you.

One of my new favourite RUclipsrs, love your souls videos
Ah, you're too kind, and thanks for trying my other videos too ;D
LETS GOOOOO NEW VIDEO. I like these videos
Dodongo, if you get a bomb to explode next to him, he will be stunned and you can kill with your sword and he will drop bombs.
I played this game as a kid almost 20 years ago with my dad, taking turns every death. Great memories and a great game.

Ha... Digdogger does "contact" damage... I'm gonna pretend this was a poor-eyesight joke. ;D

@@BillySYTlol I'm sorry.. hahaha
What's the music used in the outro? Driving me crazy as I recognize it but can't place it. Enjoying this series of videos by the way.
That'd be the TUNIC Overworld theme ^^
@@BillySYT Ah, right! Thank you.
Manhandla also appeared in the Four Sword titles - just saying.
Funnily enough, it's the GBA title that's more noteworthy.
I’d like to see you rank your top 10 favorite bosses in ALL of gaming.
Hoo boy. That would be an interesting list, because absolutely nobody would be able to predict my 10 favourite boss fights.

I would love a link awakening style remake of this game.
A remake of this game, but expanding upon it instead of it being a 1 to 1 remake would be good.
Agreed. This was great back in the day, but would not be acceptable today
I’d be interested in playing some of the older Zelda games myself, what emulator did you use for it if you don’t mind sharing?
I'm using the official Nintendo Switch Online NES app.
@@BillySYT damn you Billy
@@BillySYT and thank you too
