Nathan, anywhere between 70 and 80 Fahrenheit should be alright, My Curse, there are lots of different places - you can often find breeders on social media or at reptile expos, but I’ve even seen babies available at Petco
This is a brilliant tutorial. When my mother in law finally makes the full transition from human to giant frog, I keep her in 1 of these and feed her beetles and all sorts of goodies 👍🏻
your frog is gorgeous he is so fat and healthy. I'm obcessed with frogs . ive had two pacman frogs. two giant bullfrogs and three African clawed aquatic frogs. love all things frogs.
With regard to the Silicone Sealant - as you said, it's important to get one that says 'aquarium safe' if possible, but, if you simply can't find one that says 'aquarium safe' (depending on your country, some people may not be able to find specifically 'aquarium safe' silicone) - make sure you get one that says 'ACID CURE'. It seems really counter-intuitive, there are two types of silicone sealant you can buy, one is 'acid cure' and one is 'neutral cure'. I learned the really hard way (about 30 years ago now!!) that the neutral cure silcone (which was new at the time and I thought would be awesome - no pH mucking around) is sudden death. The acid-cure gives off acetic acid (basically vinegar) at quite low concentrations. The neutral cure, on the other hand, can give off FORMALDEHYDE as a by-product (and those which don't give off formaldehyde give off other animal-killing stuff). This not only kills any animals (in my case - fish) you put in immediately after your silicone cures, but will go on killing water-change after water-change. As I said, the neutral-cure was fairly new when I had my fish-mageddon, and I asked lots of fish-keepers why they thought this tank kept killing anything that went into it , after a couple of weeks I mentioned it to an aquarist who simply asked 'have you recaulked the tank recently?'. Then we worked out what was going on. We considered scraping the silicone off and re-using the glass, but, in the end, didn't want to risk hurting any more fish, so we smashed the tank and put it into glass recycling as we couldn't be sure of getting 100% of the silicone off. I think it's really important to explain exactly WHY people need to get specific silicones because even since then I've had people in hardware stores recommend neutral cure silicone to me when they've asked what I'm going to use the silicone I've chosen for, I've said on fish, or frog, tanks, they've said 'Hey, we have neutral cure, so you won't have to worry about acid in the tank!'. Of course I've assisted them with their knowledge base... ;) Anyway, I thought this might be an interesting thing to include in one of your videos sometime. Your new Giant Avocado is gorgeous, by the way - I wish we could get some of the amazing species you have here in Australia, but I guess we have quite a few awesome ones ourselves :)
A few months ago I asked you about how to get a my dream snake Cali garter and today I just ordered one from Shaun’s gregarious garters off of your recommendation, thanks a lot, can’t wait to get her
It's so good to see a knowledgeable person like yourself caring for the beautiful frog, there are too many people on RUclips who are completely clueless.
You also forget to mention how you put the plastic on the sharp edge of the glass to keep the from from being sliced open BAD! I recommend getting the glass cut from a glass shop because they will bulk nose the glass which makes it impossible to get cut. The cheap glass from home depot and the likes are really thin, they break easy and can really cut you bad easily!
For some reason when you picked him up I was expecting you to lick him and walk away giggling. Been watching too many Simpsons episodes haha I saw the feeding video on Instagram, it always amazes me how hard some frogs and toads hit their prey! Anyway great video man, love seeing your setups. New intro is cool as well, can't wait to see what you've got planned for 20
Excellent vid! However a little bit of advice with the land/aquatic divider, glass isn't good. It's fragile, it can injure, depending on the creature it offers little grip, it's ugly. A better solution is a limestone or sandstone paver or tile. They offer more grip for entering/exiting, are robust and can be chipped and sanded to make rounded edges. Generally I'll get a 50cm limestone tile and cut it in half, using an angle grinder to flatten and sculpt the cut edge. Then I'll install it like you did with the glass, cut edge upwards. For wider tanks you may have to join tiles to bridge the width of the tank, aquarium silicone is fine. This method is exceptional for chelonians and young crocodilians too. (A cheap angle grinder is an awesome tool for scaping; add a diamond tile cutting blade and you can cut, tile stone, glass ceramic etc.)
Thanks for the recommendation - I'll keep it in mind in the future! Glass is just what I had available, and for this guy I'm not too concerned. He can't quite thrash around with the same ferocity of a crocodilian, and he has legs strong enough to jump over the divider.
AfroHerpkeeper No worries. I've had a fair bit of experience designing enclosures for mass breeding programs (function, cost, suitability) and we found tiles were the best solution, the biggest outlay was the tools and sealant. We were concentrated on small endangered riverine amphibians and glass was too risky and expensive.
graphite - I appreciate your reply here, too. We're organising amphibian tanks for all our frogs and will keep your recommendations in mind for our guys too.
I currently have a baby pixie frog 🐸 and I’m converting a 55 gallon into a new home for him, but I have some questions. Is your filter enough to keep the dirt out of the water? Because my frog drags all of his dirt into his water. What where you plexiglass dimensions?
I'm new to your channel, and this is the first video of yours I've seen... I absolutely enjoyed the quality of your video, the narration and the step by step instructions provided regarding the whole set up 👌👍
He looks so enthused to be manhandled 😂 He's deff used to being firmly planted on his feet and in control of his body movements. Not the most graceful or agile creature, but quite endearing nonetheless. I love his relaxing poses. Some serious body confidence. 😊
you don't need the piece of glass you can just stack up a bunch of rocks and play Eco Earth on it that's safer cuz if you keep the glass there and he can't get over the water he could easily stay in the water for too long or something I don't know just just take out the divider
Just want you to know.......you are awesome. Great channel, great intro, your information is clear and the camera work is great. You have my subscription and like.
great quality video, i am not even into herps any more [gave them to a fellow enthusiast when job made me move too much, cannot do it again after that loss] and i couldn't help but subscribe.
🌿😌🐒 The fact that both Humans (Homo sapiens) and Neanderthals evolved in Africa to later populate the planet (humans in massive numbers) makes one wonder...What else could come out of Africa? A little scary to think about (:
If that's a plexiglass divider, you can sand it and round out the edges so you can get rid of that rubber bead thing. I did this for my fish as the divider was part of a filtration technique, but I didn't want my fish getting scratches. 250 grit will make it nice and around, 500 grit will damn near make it smooth for you. This can work on some regular glasses as well, but could also make some regular glasses chip away.

AfroHerpkeeper can u use just coconut soil for the substrate
Jangzii, you sure can, but I don't recommend letting it stick to his food. Be sure you spot clean any waste you might find as well.
AfroHerpkeeper thx for replying and I know I’m probably gonna have a separate tank with nothing in it just for feeding him

All of it. Nicely done! And the extras are awesome!
He’s just so massive would something bigger not be better in the long run 🥺
as a pixie frog owner, you don't really need one. they're almost always sitting still, whether it's in dirt or in the water.

Does it matter if it's *ugly*? And it's not _that_ fragile, and the glass is thicker than normal. Smh.
