.....this is not a very a good video yeah. that problem you have with the designs its probably with you just looking at so many gundams they're all supposed to be recognizable as a gundam with the most alien design being Turn A gundam because it neglected to add a V-fin at the head and made it a mustache instead, you shouldnt be looking at a line of different lamborghinis and conclude that all cars look the same, the mecha genre as a larger whole has so many awesome designs i can point to .Scopedog,Sirbine,Genesic Gaogaigar,Getter Robo which features 3 designs for each iteration my favourites being getter 1 for the original and getter 2 for Shin,Mazinkaiser,Zaku 2,I love Nu Gundam's assymetrical design it manages to somehow be basic and yet be such a perfect design that it doesnt matter,gunbuster,Mazin-emperor G and Vysaga speaking of which the last 2 comes from a crossover series of mecha anime called Super Robot Wars which is a grid based RPG in where the stories crossover and you can get Gurren Lagann and Evangelion in the same game and story (srw z3 is untranslated doe) im normally a fan of super robots far more but srw has got me to appreciate the real robots characters in a way i didnt think i would and it keeps introducing me to more and more things to get interested in.
yea that's why attack on titan is so boring, o wait.. opinion aside what you are watching like darling in the franx, or gurren lagan are "super mecha genre" basically dragon ball or naruto with giant robots, while gundam or patlabor are "real robots genre" which is usually has focus on complex story mostly politic, war, and technology back then there's a lot of people love this kind of story. There are one real robots genre you might be interested, wich is "full metal panic", half comedy and half real robot stuff, and the setting mostly in high school and school life, the story basically about a child soldier who has mission to protect a girl who has government secret and that child soldier has to adjust to school life situation...
Full metal panic is actually something I’ve wanted to watch , I think itde definitely be my thing from what I’ve seen it . Thank you for being so helpful dude
So for what I understand you don't like too serious and dark plot, then you should watch Mobile Fighter G Gundam, it's totally stand-alone, you can watch it without seeing any other Gundam, the main difference from this and the other Gundam is that this is a Super Robot show, so robots with super powers and these things, but it's very experimental, it has robots that move with the movement of the pilot and fight with martial arts...yes. It's really bizzarre and fun to watch and the plot too is interesting with many seriously absurd plot twists. In general I recommend you to watch Super Robot shows for what I understand. Sorry for the long message and maybe for the macaronic english because I'm italian haha
I like mecha because I think the designs are just super cool and I like seeing giant robots beat the crap out of each other. It’s a pretty simple reason for me. I’m glad you like Eureka Seven. It’s an awesome show and one of my absolute favorites. So I’m just happy that even if your opinion differs from mine that you haven’t written mecha off completely.
Eureka seven made me cry a few times, it really resonated with me for some reason . I really like the early 2000s aesthetic even though I was just a baby when eureka seven came out. Eureka seven is an easy top ten for me .Thank you for being so cool man I really appreciate comments like this , thank you for being so respectful and cool.
my problem with mecha is that it just feels too absurd to have these skyscraper sized robots fight like normal people. I would much rather see something like a power armor genre, where instead of mechs, there are power armors, that are human sized, and are capable of really cool combat.
I think that mecha is capable of cool combat and for me the scale of it can make it even better . But mostly this doesn’t happen, I think in general I prefer fight scenes that are human sized , feels more intimate and less disconnected and more intense .
Perhaps you should watch old super robot anime or Escaflowne? IDK, I really think it's a different taste issue, as I enjoy the whole "people talking politics and strategy" thing. Eva was so annoying to watch as all the characters have mental problems and I tried watching gurrenn Lagann and it feels so meh to me. I love colorful stuff but in that show, it's too much for me and the whole galaxy sized robots is too absurd. That don't mean I like serious and gritty animes only, I love one piece and jojos. Just that scale is kind of important. Also, real robot Mechs kinda have to fight in space, cities or desert cause they would be strategic points in war. Few times I have seen fighting on the jungle, snow or forests. Another thing I think why Mecha isn't as popular as other genres nowadays is that in 60s to 80s boom, was that the space race was going on, and that star wars was a thing. And the realization that going to mars or other galaxies and terraform planets was going to be more improbable than we wanted to, stop the space race momentum quite harshly and therefore the real robot mecha genre.
It’s hard to top Gurren Lagann as far as mecha anime is concerned, unless you’ve got lots of preconceived biases like I do 😅 A lot of mecha anime are really a product of their time, that’s why you’ll see a lot of dull ‘boring’ moments in re-used scenery like cockpits or control rooms. Lots of telling and less showing due to hardware limitations and budget restraints. Where older mecha anime really shined is in their depictions of war with a heavy emphasis on morally grey characters and factions. If you aren’t into that, well, it is what it is. Not all series even do that well though, for example I really just could never get behind the OG 79 Gundam series. It’s legitimately boring in my eyes for the most part, I didn’t really care for Amuro and it had such a heavy emphasis on the monster of the week format prevalent back then, and god damn it I’m a zoomer and while I may be patient, and love mecha as a whole, it was still hard for me to get through and ‘appreciate’ the series for what it was. But then Zeta Gundam comes along, and while still a bit slow, really does a FAR better job at what the original Gundam series set out to do, with generally better visuals and action to boot. If you were still interested in mecha and I could give you any recommendations, it’d have to be Gundam War In the Pocket, a short, sweet and beautifully tragic story, but not exactly flashy. And for something more laid back and fun, Zoids New Century might be your place. It’s literally just a 26 episode mecha animal battle royale that doesn’t take itself too seriously and has some pretty memorable characters to boot, although can suffer from the typical early 2000’s re-use of action scenes so animators don’t have to draw stuff twice.
I know you essentially said you don't like real robot. But you gotta watch the original Mobile Suit Gundam. You claimed the White Base crew weren't friends, but that just tells me you didn't watch it. The fights are great and have a lot of motivation. But the best part of Gundam is how realistic all the characters are. They all have their own hang ups and journeys. And Amuro Ray may be the most human cartoon character I've ever seen. The way he carries the influences from his parents, his frustrations with the war, his self-imposed isolation. It's riveting stuff.
I think That every mecha anime is just........... The same. It's just different characters. And just as you said, why are there guns? But this is in my opinion (and I like romance comedys like teasing master Tagaki-san)
I haven’t seen that many mecha anime but there are similarities throughout the ones I have seen. I think there’s definitely a lot more to discover though , like gurren Lagann and eureka seven are perfect examples of how the mecha genre has been explored . I think you might like eureka seven and darling in the Franxx if you haven’t seen those . They have elements of romance and mecha . Thank you so much for commenting man!!! And thank you for sticking around on the channel I remember you from my other videos . Thanks for all the support dude !!!!
My man , you need to watch GAOGAIGAR , it is one of the top peak Super Robot animes. The amount of heart & YUUSHA it has is incredible. Getter Robo too, New Getter Robo was my first approach to the whole series, and MAN, was it a holy strike. Then Armageddon && pretty much y'can go on your own from there. Shin Mazinger , Mazinkaiser , MEGATON MUSASHI , Gunbuster , these are too a MUST WATCH . My personal opinion's that Super Robot are a kinda better than real robot series, it has the Hot-blooded epic stuff ya' wanna' see !
Nice video! Do you have a list of sources for the clips used? Also it sounds like you might just have a problem with what I believe is called real robots genre.
Thank you so much man!!!! I don’t have a list but I’ll try remember all the anime I used : Zeta gundam Gundam seed Gundam wing Darling in the Franxx Evangelion Gundam iron blooded orphans Gurren Lagann Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team Ss gridman Mobile suit gundam 00. I’m pretty sure that’s all the ones I used clips from . Yeah since uploading the video I’ve learned about the real robots genre you’re 100% right , I’m gonna have to take another look at mecha anime , because it is 100% just the real robot genre that I have any problems with. Thank you so much for commenting dude.
@@ZackoAnime There are one real robots genre you might be interested, wich is "full metal panic", half comedy and half real robot stuff, and the setting mostly in high school and school life, the story basically about a child soldier who has mission to protect a girl who has government secret and that child soldier awkwardly has to adjust to school life situation. Some gundam 00 element actually inspired from this anime like the celestial being organization that keep world peace and setsuna who is child soldier that need to disguised as high schooler.
Hey, at least you called your opinions bullshit. Self-critique is the best critique. Speaking of mecha I'm a massive mechanics nut. My old man taught me to appreciate and revere the machines of war, and that eventually spilled over into my anime interests. For example, battle shounen are incredibly dull to me. It boils down to [superpower x] vs [superpower y], and it's tiresome. The powers are just not distinct and mostly (barring a few exceptions) boil down to some sort of random energy blast in a different color. Mecha, however, is distinct. Sure, the weapons repeat just as much as in battle shounen (there are only so many variations on grenades, rifles, sabers, cannons and missiles you can do), but the design of the mecha is different. It's got it's own unique design language and it's just so satisfying to see that design language come to life. This is the one reason I'll always pick mecha over battle shounen or any other action genre. P.S. If you love Gurren Lagann, please check out Getter Robo. It pioneered the balls-to-the-wall insanity in the genre all the way back in the seventies. Start with one of the newer OVA (Armageddon, New) and then trace your steps back towards the older anime. It's somewhat more subdued than TTGL but when it goes nuts boy IT DOES GO NUTS.
7 fully , and a few episodes from a few different mecha anime from this video mostly gundam , I can’t really claim to be a mecha expert or anything . But I’ve only been able to find 3 mecha anime I really enjoy . And from what I’ve explored what makes mecha anime boring for me is prevelant in almost every mecha anime. Ide like to be proved wrong . I can appreciate the quality of writing in a lot of mecha anime but i don’t think mecha anime as whole is my thing .
@@ZackoAnime I can totally respect it not being your thing, but it seems like a lot of the complaints you have in this video are more to do with the Real Robot subgenre of mecha anime, that stuff like Gundam and Code Geass fall into, and not necessarily with mecha as a whole. Gurren Lagann is in the Super Robot subgenre, which it seems like you’d enjoy much more. Gurren Lagann is probably the most prototypical example of a Super Robot anime. If you want to watch more stuff along those lines that addresses a lot of your complaints, I’d recommend classic super robot series like Giant Robo, Mazinger/Mazinkaiser, GaoGaiGar, and especially Getter Robo, the series that inspired Gurren Lagann. You can even find more creative and visually distinct series in the Real Robot genre too, like Eureka Seven, though they are a little harder to find. Seems like Super Robot shows would be more up your alley. Also, I can’t help but notice that you used a lot of clips from Gundam Seed in this video, which is one of the absolute worst mecha shows of all time and probably the worst example of the Real Robot genre I can think of. There are LOTS of better shows that do what it does in a more engaging way Good video though dude! I subbed
I had no idea the real robot genre was thing , I had no idea about a lot of this stuff . Thank you so much for being so cool dude , I’ll be sure to checkout your recommendations. It was actually gundam seed that made me make the video it was really bad haha. Thank you so much for commenting all this, I really appreciate you taking the time to inform me more about it I’ll definitely look more into it , I think you’re spot on with the real robot stuff , I had no idea there was sub genres of mecha anime , but it makes so much sense. Thank you so much for this man .
A great mecha anime is the 86. The character's are loveable. The world building is pretty good in its own right as well. Id say you should give it a try
I really wanted to get into it , I had really high hopes for it as I’m a big fan of Tatsuyuki Nagai but I couldn’t really get into it . I hear it’s really great and I believe that but I just found it boring u guess . I was only 5 episodes in so I might give it another try . Thanks so much for commenting man
I haven’t really watched any recent mecha shows apart from darling in the franxx and ss gridman , so I can’t really say much about recent shows but I enjoyed those two . There’s definitely a smaller amount of mecha anime coming out as far as I know . Thanks for commenting mate !!
Taking advantage of the fact that I found this video, I want to comment. My problem with mecha anime is the exact opposite of this video. I'm a fan of political and military stories, but definitely having mechas in a military or sci-fi anime makes me lose interest all of a sudden, especially since in a military context it doesn't enter my head as a SUPER MEGA DUPER GIANTLY BIG ASS HUGE ROBOT MAN WITH A SWORD PILOTED BY A CHILD OR ADOLESCENT WHO IS NOT OVER 19 YEARS OLD It can be more effective and prolific in combat than a tank... Of normal size. Something that especially puzzles me about the "real mecha" (or whatever they are called) is that there is really no justification for their existence, especially in war series where they are supposed to be military equipment worth trillions and yet... Everyone has one or no one thought that there are better ways to spend that money on a war. The whole concept of a humanoid robot the size of a skyscraper to fight in a war seems to me a very ridiculous and fanciful concept, even more in animes that tries to take it in a "realistic" way. Even more so because in many animes the wicks don't even feel like characters, to such an extent if the main character's mecha is destroyed I don't think there will be repercussions in the story. GUNDAM fails a lot (in my opinion) to get seriously into the conflict of the story, when literally a giant toy robot is the main image of the franchise. It even relieves me when I'm recommended to watch a military or sci-fi anime that doesn't have mechas (which I feel like there aren't enough of them and those are really niche). So boring is it just soldiers wearing human-sized armor or just a military outfit or what? Why is the only anime about tanks is more about school girls? (That last one is very funny but it did leave me wanting more). The only mechas that I have seen that work are not even from anime, they are from the Titanfall video game. Because mecha have a personality and some level of autonomy, rather than being a glorified airplane cockpit. Another example would be the Metal Gear franchise but this is already a personal opinion, It makes more sense to me the bestial and animalistic semi-practical designs of Metal Gear than a giant metal dude controlled by a child.
Oh also , getter Robo has awesome music , I fucking loved the sound track and everything about the screaming attacks was so cool , but I don’t know the plot just wasn’t enough for me to care , like gurren Lagann , fast paced and the touching relationship between Simon and kamina and just the message of moving forward and stuff
I heard you saying that the colour pretty dull and not bright but that is the point in the real robot genre because at the end of the day the mechs are military equipment you dont really see bright and colourful military equipment in real life do you plus the reason that most mechs looks the same because real life military equipment looks the same is because it is mass produced you can't have a unique unit if there is like 100 of the same unit can you
Yeah since , this video came out , a lot of people have said that , since then I’ve watched a few more super robo genre and i love them . Thanks for commenting mate
man how are you i hope you are great and cant wait for your future content and mecha anime all are same and different anime like darling in the frankxx is just cringe so i think i will stick to my trashy isekai or wholesome slice of life like takagi san
Thank you so much man , hopefully I’ll be able to make some more videos soon since the summer holidays are coming up . You changed your name and profile picture , what’s that about ? I respect how committed you are to takagi San . I’m good mate , how are you doing ? Thank you so much for being so supportive .
Thank you so much for commenting man , I decided not to mention code geass as I didn’t want to stir too much shit . My opinions on code geass are that I like it but I found some scenes boring.
When I’ve watched it , i might . But it really depends on how I feel . I might have nothing new to say and will just be repeating points from my first video . Thank you so much for supporting me though and commenting .
Simple don't watch a mech that for military just recommended to you is for kid UN predictable looking cartoon boring 😑 kids yeah I agree with you for the less interesting character in most mech anime but those military anime is just to show how military work not playing around like a kid those military anime mech are for adults understand how military works and how they do the most in the battle field and if you wish a fantasy mech like that cartoon you suggest about oh yeah I watched 😅it's fun to watch the same time but what ay dislike about is the mech 😂 lol this kind of anime mech is for kid like dreaming a super robot like mostly unstoppable yeah I get i did like this type of anime mech when I was a kid but now most the fan mech now looking for more realistic than fantasy that never get a chance to be exist the first place lol bro just stay kid forever bro someone like you can never be facing the problem it's seems boring to yeah I know that but this can help you surpass the reality of this world military mech tell us how the conflict and politics corruption work's and how the war start beggin with and if still you don't understand kid just stay on your fantasy world kid hahahah😅 By the way sorry for the wrong grammar...😅 no
You are entitled to your opinion, but that doesn't mean anything. It's just not to your taste. I pretty much disagree with everything you dislike. Though I should clarify that I prefer Real Robot, so the punch thing is just anathema. Period. You don't see troops going up to the enemy and punching their opponent in the face. I just think you don't military stories. That's okay, but don't tell people waht they can and cannot like,
There's no realistic reason for machines of death and destruction to be humanoid shaped. There's too many drawbacks. That's why mecha anime is a no-go for me. The premise is too idiotic for me to get into.
Guess what. It is easiest to use motion control for this shape, so stuff like G Gundam and Yuusha Shirei Dagwon can make mecha with more mobility than via conventional leavers Also, it is works as generalist shape with no specyfication so it makes sense in stuff like Gundam when production cost is invoked
as opposed to all the realistic premises of other anime like uh like uh wait i got one like uh the one with the female radio host that one's pretty good

Eureka seven is an easy top ten for me .Thank you for being so cool man I really appreciate comments like this , thank you for being so respectful and cool.
you should definetely have more subs.keep up the good work!!!
Thank you so much man , that makes me really happy , thank you dude
Impressive production quality for such a small channel, keep it up brother!
Thank you so much man !!!! That seriously makes me so happy
my problem with mecha is that it just feels too absurd to have these skyscraper sized robots fight like normal people.
Oh with gurren lagaan, those aren't galaxies, they're supposed to be universes.
Even better then
The over sized guns for mechs never made sense, real mechs fight with bare Knuckles
Bare knuckles made of metal
ROCKETO PUNCH!!!
It’s hard to top Gurren Lagann as far as mecha anime is concerned, unless you’ve got lots of preconceived biases like I do 😅
A lot of mecha anime are really a product of their time, that’s why you’ll see a lot of dull ‘boring’ moments in re-used scenery like cockpits or control rooms.
Gurren isn't even in my top 3 anymore since I actually started watching some mecha shows.
Takagi San is good ^_^
Takagi san is really great
@@GenesicKaiser I’ve never heard of that , looks really interesting though especially since it’s so obscure .
@@ZackoAnime Thanks!! I am going to watch Darling in the Franxx now
My man , you need to watch GAOGAIGAR , it is one of the top peak Super Robot animes.
I don’t have a list but I’ll try remember all the anime I used :
Zeta gundam
Gundam seed
Gundam wing
Darling in the Franxx
Evangelion
Gundam iron blooded orphans
Gurren Lagann
Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team
Ss gridman
Mobile suit gundam 00.
Ok how many mecha anime have you seen tho
There are LOTS of better shows that do what it does in a more engaging way
Good video though dude!
@@ZackoAnime No prob! Glad I could help!
@@bjanes4766 you’re so awesome man
My fav Mecha anime is Gundam 00 (except for its movie tho)
I think my favourite has got to be gurren Lagann or eureka seven they’re both really great
Bro just watch macross...
A great mecha anime is the 86. The character's are loveable. The world building is pretty good in its own right as well. Id say you should give it a try
That sounds awesome , I’ll give it try , thank you so much for commenting
How about Iron Blooded Orphans?
I really wanted to get into it , I had really high hopes for it as I’m a big fan of Tatsuyuki Nagai but I couldn’t really get into it . I hear it’s really great and I believe that but I just found it boring u guess . I was only 5 episodes in so I might give it another try . Thanks so much for commenting man
Ssss gridman x ssss dynazenon 2023
and a new story begins
I appreciate the comment but I’m not sure what you’re trying to say when you just say anime names . Hahaha
Even if you don't like mecha anime, I guarantee you'll still have a great time watching Code Geass.
Interesting, because I don’t see much differences between Code Geass and other mecha
There are parts of codes geass I enjoy , but the more mecha elements were mostly still boring to me . I just enjoyed lelouche being “smart” I guess .
As a mecha fan I can understand some of this. The genre has fell off quite a bit
So after several months since the video, did you get to try some of the stuff that was recommended? And if so, will you be doing a follow up video?
My opinions are basically the same , I did try some more , but I don’t really have enough to say to warrant a video about it.
@@ZackoAnime Any give you a similar feel to Gl and do you find any are on par to it in your view?
I watched some getter robo , but it was kinda too slow for me , gurren Lagann was more fast paced and had more interesting characters
@@ZackoAnime Ah, which Getter Robo did you try?
Oh also , getter Robo has awesome music , I fucking loved the sound track and everything about the screaming attacks was so cool , but I don’t know the plot just wasn’t enough for me to care , like gurren Lagann , fast paced and the touching relationship between Simon and kamina and just the message of moving forward and stuff
I heard you saying that the colour pretty dull and not bright but that is the point in the real robot genre because at the end of the day the mechs are military equipment you dont really see bright and colourful military equipment in real life do you plus the reason that most mechs looks the same because real life military equipment looks the same is because it is mass produced you can't have a unique unit if there is like 100 of the same unit can you
Yes I agree and that’s why I don’t like it
@@ZackoAnime you may like getter robo armageddon then it is part of the super robo genre
Yeah since , this video came out , a lot of people have said that , since then I’ve watched a few more super robo genre and i love them . Thanks for commenting mate

Simple don't watch a mech that for military just recommended to you is for kid UN predictable looking cartoon boring 😑 kids yeah I agree with you for the less interesting character in most mech anime but those military anime is just to show how military work not playing around like a kid those military anime mech are for adults understand how military works and how they do the most in the battle field and if you wish a fantasy mech like that cartoon you suggest about oh yeah I watched 😅it's fun to watch the same time but what ay dislike about is the mech 😂 lol this kind of anime mech is for kid like dreaming a super robot like mostly unstoppable yeah I get i did like this type of anime mech when I was a kid but now most the fan mech now looking for more realistic than fantasy that never get a chance to be exist the first place lol bro just stay kid forever bro someone like you can never be facing the problem it's seems boring to yeah I know that but this can help you surpass the reality of this world military mech tell us how the conflict and politics corruption work's and how the war start beggin with and if still you don't understand kid just stay on your fantasy world kid hahahah😅
By the way sorry for the wrong grammar...😅 no
I agree that mecha anime is boring.
It’s mainly just all the scenes of like the government or whatever talking in boring spaceship looking rooms that make it so boring .
That's okay, but don't tell people waht they can and cannot like,
Sorry about the missing word like after don't, and waht should be what. My bad.
There's no realistic reason for machines of death and destruction to be humanoid shaped. There's too many drawbacks. That's why mecha anime is a no-go for me. The premise is too idiotic for me to get into.
Guess what. It is easiest to use motion control for this shape, so stuff like G Gundam and Yuusha Shirei Dagwon can make mecha with more mobility than via conventional leavers
Also, it is works as generalist shape with no specyfication so it makes sense in stuff like Gundam when production cost is invoked
as opposed to all the realistic premises of other anime like uh
like uh
wait i got one like uh the one with the female radio host that one's pretty good
