It's hard to imagine a better live version than this one. This should be in a time capsule, or transmitted to the rover on Mars. It may sound nuts to think of transmitting this song thru the cosmos, but in a way, it already has been.
My favorite version is still the one where he introduces it with “this is not a drug song” rant. “I don’t write drug songs, wouldn’t know how to go about it if I wanted to!” I taped off the radio around 40 years ago, have to search my cassettes again. Still haven’t been able to find it posted online.
i'm way late but i found the version you were looking for. its from the Royal Albert Hall performance...May 27, 1966 ruclips.net/video/cxzjj4IRkHw/видео.html
found this track years ago in the mid-2000s on some random blog and it quickly became the definitive version to me. never thought i'd hear this performance again. thank you. what a gem.
fantastic it's my fav Bob song ..... i have 52 differents versions ......not a gem but the most beautiful blue diamonD in this world ..... GREAT THANKS AGAIN SWINGIN''PIG ♥♥♥♥
I really adore this life version. I'll share this wonderful song to my niece Johanna 💕. Probably her daddy listened to it before giving this name to his new born daughter in 1991...30 years ago.
I love to share them, it’s me passion! Got a full soundboard recording, over an hour, from his 1965 UK acoustic tour that I’ll upload tonight. Should be a great listen!
This an absolutely awesome song in so many ways. Many different recordings are out there, but check out the album "Biograph" for one of the best, and of course "Blonde on Blonde".
There is a D and Q train, the latter of which doesn't stop at W4th. There was a brief change as you describe, following 9/11 or Sandy, but it soon reverted. I am in that nabe frequently and see visions of Dylan and Hendrix as I walk past Cafe Wha and Electric Lady Studios
I like the one from Melbourne, it might be..It's sooooo slow. He was really congested in these shows and could not get the guitar tuned. Was this when his guitar got stolen? The one from London you posted part of is the real gem... But always good to hear this. Ranks with his very best...
Hey Swingin’, any chance you have some acoustic version of Please Crawl Out Your Window? I had this idea of the song being played acoustically and slow and how cool it would sound :)
Thanks Swingin! Say do you happen to have the Visions of Johanna from the big CD set that's faster? It's a real rocking version with all the verses, maybe 5 minutes long or so. It's my favorite. I can't find it anywhere. 😎

That’d be amazing! There’s a tiny snippet of Dylan playing it for a mic check on the “1966 Live Recordings” promo video on RUclips. However, I don’t think he ever did it like that in the studio. I’ll do some digging though :)
The greatest piece of musical poetry that's ever been written.Fact
My own personal #1 song.
The ghost of electricity howls in the bones of her face....sweet Jesus
Mona Lisa must have had the highway blues: you can tell by the way she smiles.
Agreed.
Right'
Yeah this Lyric Broke the Mold forever. It is My all time Favorite Dylan Line. AND THAT is literally Saying Something
@@raindeerprojekt4119OMG, LITERALLY??????!!!!!!!!!! 😮😮😮😮😮😮
In 1966 I was 23 yrs old . Man , this changed my life , and not only mine ...
In 1966 I was born. But, so what. Bob made that a good year for me farther on down the line.
I'm back in 1966 in front of my bedroom mirror strumming my tennis racket with my dark sun glasses on oh those were the days pal
That’s me today haha, it’ll be strange looking back.
@@SwinginPig keep rocking blue boy he gets better as you get older believe me
Andrew Henderson Haha great to hear!!

I think royal albert hall version is better
RAH is perfect. The ones in Australia are more raw.
Unfortunately, we've never been to Mars, the moon or anyplace else. Watch Stanley Kubrick 's confession.
haunting masterpiece
P I did I'd give anything for it to be nineteen sixty-six again
Mona Lisa must have the highway blues you tell by the way she smiles what a lyric Pure genius 🏴👍
I don’t know what the best version of this song, but this has to be up there. It’s literally perfect. My favorite part is the “and the rain”
1966 was probably his best live year of the 60s. That, and his early coffee house gigs
It is indeed the best version of his masterpeace !
OMG magnificent Bobby❤ need I say more 🙏SP
Just Louise and her lover, so entwined. And these visions of Johanna... that conquer my mind.
This is Peak Dylan mid 60's . We still got 60+ years to go!!! lol What a Legend WOWZER!!!
dylan's poetry at its peak. thank you for this upload pigster !

This is magical. Why have so few heard it?
I know this song by heart
Love you Bobby
Damn Good!
c'est la vie
The "D" train went to West 4th street--right down the street to all those cafe's he played...the D is now the Q train lol
Yep, the village is a goldmine for Dylan enthusiasts. Kinda like a pilgrimage to visit there. The gaslight’s gone, sadly, but Cafe Wha’s still there!

Something Prince Hamlet would sing on the castle ramparts after his father's ghost scurries back to purgatory.
Has the quality of Nostradamus quatrains put the music and surfing the cosmic sea

But these visions of Johanna, they make it all seem so cruel
How dare you. Going around telling the truth.
All about Joan Baez. His soulmate.
