    I think the group dynamic has dropped so much because of the really mean responses a person will get when asking questions. There are trolls on there just looking to say mean things and start a fight. I don’t get why someone feels good about being so mean. This is the main reason why I won’t ask questions in groups anymore.

    • @StandleyHandcrafted
      @StandleyHandcrafted  Год назад +7

      Agreed, it was so much easier when the group was small to weed out those people who just wanted to cause chaos. Now there are so many people those comments go unseen for days sometimes.

      Because the people who say those mean things can't be held accountable. Do you think that same person would stand up in front of a person and say mean things? No. They are cowards. Social media is breeding a new generation of narcissists.

      I 100% agree with these comments, I think what did it for me was, a lady on here once asked a ? about wicking and the money she was wasting on fragrance oil and when she asked what would you guys suggest, she got a reply from another lady saying what is it that you want ? Do you really want us to tell you all the answers to what we had to go through. You have to do your own research like us all. I thought that was very mean after all I honestly thought this group was to help each other and bring new ideas to the table, well that's what I would have no problem doing. People must not forget what the group was about in the first place instead of shooting their mouths off. Those kind of people forget when they first started out. Thankyou Jeff for all you do for us. 🥰

      @@maryobrienbarcoe2639 Those kinds of answers drive me crazy too. It’s not like she’s asking for the easy win button and no testing is involved.
      People are simply asking for help narrowing down the field instead of testing a hundred wicks. I’ve never understood not helping someone narrow it down to a couple of wicks. There is absolutely still testing involved.
      The other thing that drives me crazy is those people being mean we’re once asking those same questions and got help too.

  • @deniseedit.

    I am in the group. I think for me, it gets annoying after awhile when the same questions gets asked over and over again. A lot of questions have already been answered and people don't really search. Also, then there are the ones where they haven't done any research and starts asking really dumb questions and seem like they don't want to test, they don't want to trial & error. And that really turns me off and I snooze the group for 30 days. With that said, if I have a genuine question, and its a question that is not basic, I usually will get a response from someone. I think quality candle makers do exist in the group but we tend to just take a step back and bypass a lot of the noise.

    • @StandleyHandcrafted
      @StandleyHandcrafted  Год назад +3

      The search could be so much better for sure. That's why I like a forum, you can pin all those basic questions that come up all the time so everyone sees them when they start.

    I was active in many groups, unfortunately no candle ones, and I have seen this decline for every single group. There was no longer any community, it became demands and/or elitism. Then you get those "quick flipper" types who ask what everyone else makes and tries to sell that for cheaper.
    One 3D printing group I am in now is basically divided in two (including the mods) who harp on what is "real 3D printing" even going so far as to delete those who bought the higher-end prebuilt machines "because you gain nothing unless you build it yourself from a kit." and are showing off their prints.

I feel their negative energy, anger, disrespect, and so forth. Whenever I leave a comment or express my opinion with respect to others I get attached and laughed at. The credit for a friendly and encouraging group goes to the admin in our group. It’s really amazing! Maybe just start limiting members per group? Much love to you and your family, Jeff!❤

The excitement literally died after 2 weeks because you know why?? It's actually WORK to check-in. People are lazy, and they dont cultivate their self-discipline. 🤷 They want everything handed to them and not reciprocate. So i told them i was shutting it down becauee they broke their promise in being an accountability partner.

This was actually the 2nd fanclub I was in, the problem with the last one was I got attacked by some people, and then one thing I posted the club considered it harassment. Now the worst thing is that the commenters were from the old group and I thought they were friends. It was extremely hurtful because I have autism and I felt so humiliated because what I made wasn't good enough for everyone. Personally I think Facebook should not have fan groups anymore. People are told in the rules to be nice to each other but obviously they don't follow them.

After exposing this in a comments section that doesn't have to be approved, all my posts are now suddenly approved😂. There was nothing wrong with my posts and all of it was topic related. I don't know why but it seemed like an admin had unnecessary beef with me and was playing favoritism despite there being no rules broken. Facebook groups are indeed toxic cause I did experience it just recently and decided to delete all of my posts before leaving the group with its unfair spiteful treatment from the people in the community from that group that I had joined back in May of this year. I was the first person in the group to had made a Birthday tribute post for my favorite character actor and I was noticing that it wasn’t getting that much likes or recognition from other people in the group. I took my time and effort to enhance and edit high quality photos of my favorite character actor. People in the group seemed to gravitate more towards some older lady who had also made a Birthday tribute post for the same character actor after I made a birthday tribute post for the same actor and she had posted with a low quality blurry photo of the actor which engaged tons of likes and responses. People in the group that I joined seemed to disregard my Birthday tribute post for the same actor and didn’t consider my post at all. Which was outrageous to me because it literally caught me off guard by the entire situation. Why choose a bad low quality blurry photo post over a higher enhanced quality image post. The fact that the rules stated in that group to insist others to be friendly and respectful to everyone which this community completely contradicted with their unfair actions towards me was a classic example of total hypocrisy.

I've become a bit bothered by an almost unwillingness or fear to research, test and experiment. Many questions are for a fast fix without talking about anything they may have tried,. Or searching for previous answers, reading the supplier guides, for basic starting points. If they have an idea they are wondering about, they don't actually do it themselves so that there's no contribution on their part to the collective knowledge. Or invalidating someone's experience. I guess what I'm experiencing is those just looking for a business or outlet and those that actually like the craft. It's an interesting dynamic for sure.

    Facebook groups absolutely suck. You can be banned from a group like what happened to me for simply asking a group admin a question that wasn't against the group rules. My posts were even topic related, and they never explained to me why they blocked my posts. Other posts were talking about the same thing, and they never got blocked. Why did the admin take it personally? I have no clue. I was a top contributor to the group, and they loved the discussions I would start. It was about PC prices and how ridiculous they have got. I simply said sellers and PC Builders have gotten unnecessarily greedy, and many PC Builders and gamers agreed with me but not the admin. It was all on topic and lined up with their rules. If an admin takes something personally and takes someone's voice away, then they shouldn't be in charge even if the post wasn't going against the rules. That is an attack on freedom of speech also. What's the point of talking on a group post if the admin can be but hurt about anything. Really admins personal feelings over a topic that can be discussed in the group is selfish and they don't consider everyone else that was part of that discussion. Why be an admin if you don't take part in the discussion and be more open-minded for others instead of taking your personal feelings first.

      I’d love to see some form of this with larger groups for sure. I mean hell some admins are doing a hell of a job keeping tens of thousands people, sometimes more, on the website and engaging like crazy.

    I would create a new group then close the other one. That will tell you the true devotees. Then make the nondevotees bend the knee if they survive battle to the death.

    I really don’t want to be mean but…you never addressed the bullies so I left. I don’t like bullies, I don’t entertain them and they should not be allowed on any social media.

      Actually we constantly handled them it just grew to the point where we couldn’t see them all or they weren’t reported.
      I try to make every effort to get those people out fast.

      @@StandleyHandcrafted then I appreciate your efforts, but honestly I did not see them at all. I saw all types of new candle makers getting feedback that wasn’t helpful, down right rude and should have been criminally charged. But hey, it’s the internet, right? Can’t control everything. Everyone who follows your RUclips…..you know EXACTLY who you are.

      I love discord but it’s not great for candles and the demographic.
