Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.
30 years ago...I practiced meditation . By reading Swami Vivekananda book I do meditation . Finally I able go to deep meditation. But for all these you need develop your Bhakthi . Without Pure Bhakthi, you can't reach the light ( jothi). So, first you need chanting mantra.....! By chanting the mantra you will feel the vibration begin. It is an experience, feeling and blessed. Vibration help you reach the light. Everyone in this life time, at least one time must reach the light. It is full of happiness, blessings... can't tell in words..🙏 experience. The light, it is within you.

4 stages in breathing meditation.
1. Take a posture which is maintainable. Easy and not painful. Movement of body to be avoided (not in a rigid way).
Be relaxed, Be aware.
2. Be focused from head to toe. Feel the sensations. Bring body to centre stage of awareness.
3. Narrow the awareness even further till the breath. You will feel the breath in the nose, around face, in tummy, coursing through out the body.
4. Bring attention to tip of the nose. Breath passing in and out. Sensation in nostrils. Let the thoughts and feelings come, but let them be in the background.

I respect ur feelings about ur feelings about swamy ji but he himself does not refer to him as a Guru. Guru is incarnation of God on earth. Only Ramkrishn Parmhans and swamy Vivekananda fall in the category of a SATGURU. If not believe me than ask him

I to agree that Allah is Ishwar, Ishwar is Jesus, we all are nothing but one truth.
You question about Ram is something neither i am in a position to clarify you nor you will be satisfied with any answer. Isn't there similar stories of sacrifices in Islam. Every religion tries to teach in the capacity of one practising.

Instead of 1 to 10' , I found it more convenient to start from 10 to 0 and no further in descending order so that there will be end to thoughts also after 0.
