Kim, this is for you. We've basically motivated each other to wrap up our long-unfinished WIPs about these two, so it's only fair - plus, you deserve all the love possible for being the precious, supportive, enthusiastic human being you are ♥

I do apologize for the Star Wars/Reylo spam recently, but these two are all I can think about fandom-wise, especially after that beautifully hopeful final trailer we got (the MUSIC, God, John Williams has just done it again). This is likely to be my last pre-TROS Star Wars video (I can't believe the time has finally arrived to say it!), and it is an especially ambitious one I've been working on and off ever since getting a decent copy of TLJ back in the day (yeah yeah, see how hopelessly slow a vidder I am part 3827456). To me, this song is Reylo to the core (the freaking L Y R I C S), and every clip in this has some level of thought on my part behind it, as I've tried cramming in the video some of the symbolisms/meta traits that make me love this pair and their dynamic, among them:
-our perception as viewers that we've always had one clear central Force-wielder protagonist of each trilogy/generation, while with the ST and Rey/Ben we have two equally important halves making a whole;
-obvious yin/yang, light/dark completing/balancing each other out/endlessly circling each other themes (collecting literal visual shots for the “moving in and out of the shadow” line of the song has been a super interesting exercise);
-perceptions of one another constantly swinging back and forth (push and pull and constantly forcing some degree of soul-searching and character development on them both);
-commentary made by Ben or Rey about one another or made by other people about one of them actually describing BOTH of them (children in masks, can't stop needing parental figures = greatest weakness, needing to put the past behind them, losing faith in their masters etc.);
-a hint at reverse!Anidala (which I've actually never been the greatest fan of, as I've always thought that comparing Rey to Padme doesn't work as well as comparing Ben to Anakin when you exclude the “botched proposal” scene - but boy are the visual parallels stunning);
-some more meta quotes from ATLA (and particularly Zutara, aka the twin ship to Reylo), because it's almost unreal how they 100% sound like things Rey and/or Ben would say or think about one another. (That infamous parallel video between ships will be one of the first things I do with TROS for sure!)
I'm not sure that as a whole the video makes as much sense as it does to me, but I hope you will enjoy it nonetheless. Our watch has almost ended - circle prayer that this ending is a good one!

Still feeling rather overwhelmed in front of this masterpiece, but I’m going to try. It’s the thought rather than the appallingly lacklustre words that counts, right?
Anyway, buckle up. It’s probably going to be a long one.
Firstly, that dedication. I’m still in something of a state of shock that this work of art could in anyway be dedicated to me. I don’t feel even remotely worthy of your kind words. But, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I’m so honoured, and so grateful. Not just for the video, but for your friendship. It means so much to me. Thank you for fangirling with me, for just allowing me to babble at you. Just all of it. Really, thank you!
Onto the actual video **deep breath**
The understanding you have of these two is breathtaking. And not just as a pair, but as individuals, and as parts of the bigger story. It’s truly incredible, and you have showcased that understanding so beautifully in this video.
I absolutely adore your use of quotes throughout, especially the prophecy one at the beginning (and the ‘he made his choice’ - that one was a perfectly done punch to the gut). Everything just meshes together so perfectly. And so seemingly effortlessly, which is truly the mark of a talented editor. How you’ve made such complicated, and intricate work look so _easy_ is beyond me. Truly.
The whole yin/yang - balance - motif of this is so perfectly, and wonderfully them. You’ve captured how important they are, not as two halves, not as the light and the dark, but as those two halves coming together. Bringing that beautiful balance to the force (which, let’s be honest at this point must be so fed up with the Skywalker boys ((we all know I love them all, but every single one is a disaster!)), and waiting for them to get their shit together). Like I said, you have such a beautiful understanding of them.
(And your inclusion of Mortis...just wow).
I also _adore_ how literally you took the lyrics about moving in and out of the shadows; it’s so beautifully executed.
I swear I’m talking utter nonsense right now, and I’m sorry for it, but that is what this video has brought me to. I wanted to write a comment worthy of it, and instead I’m babbling word vomit at you. I’m so sorry.
Your editing is just poetry. I honestly don’t know how else to describe it.Which is ironic since I wanted to say how the way you’ve crafted this literally captures the way Ben&Rey really do embody the whole ‘it’s like poetry, it rhymes’ idea of Star Wars, and that’s just beautiful in and of itself.
I’m trying to come up with words to describe how this whole video makes me feel, and I’m just endlessly coming up short. It’s been such a long time in the making (and, honestly, haven’t we all got videos that were waiting on HD!TLJ that never saw daylight), and all I can say is, it was entirely, and completely worth every second of the time it’s taken to get here.
Okay, now I’ve given up on trying to articulate the emotional wreck I’ve been reduced to, I just have to say that you already know how much I adore your meta in the description (and, again, the way you’ve portrayed it within the video). Again, your understanding of these two, and what they mean and bring to the entire Skywalker Saga, is just beautiful.
Just one quick, finishing statement; how do you manage to find (and perfectly vid) such truly perfect songs for them. This one could, quite frankly, have been written for them. Those lyrics!!
Wanna know my major take from this?? TROS is going to _destroy_ us.
This has got to be one of the most perfect reylo videos on the internet. I'm legit lost for words right now. It describes everything about them and about the universe around them so perfectly. IT'S JUST SO GOOOOOOD!

I'm so glad you're digging into ATLA (which episode are you at?) and that this video came at such an appropriate time then! Realizing how uncannily similar Reylo is to Zutara was actually my very first step into this new shipping hellhole, so yeah, I dare say the parallels are crazy fitting -- and I hope we'll get even more once Ben's redemption arc gets completed in IX (of which I have little doubt) 😊

And HE SO IS. I think it's also reassuring to see Adam, who is really protective of Ben, so uncharacteristically chirpy in interviews recently -- he seems happy with how things are going to go, and I trust his judgement :)

EVERY time I watch your videos I am overcome with emotions and SO many feels and you and I both know my thoughts on Reylo and keeping open mind but DAMN I'm falling really close more and more and seeing this video and the parallels and OH MY GOD MORTIS TRILOGY!!!!!!! that is one of my favourite CW arcs and I gotta say the voiceovers VERY well used both from Star Wars and Avatar to convey how their journey has come back and I CANNOT WAIT for Rise of Skywalker!! I do believe Rey and Ben are linked because with the "balance of the force" light and dark must be balanced {sorry now I'm going into Mortis detail here} and I'm very interested to see how this will happen although I'm also very emotional but WELL DONE *claps* you are succeeding with my thoughts and feels here and have produced another INCREDIBLE Reylo video!!
