tax exemption for small business investors
Thanks for the coverage Steve. I do hope that a large investor comes out of these events so that Aptera can start production sooner, rather than later.
Apparently folk were invited to Tuesday's "Celebration" based on nearness and investment. I live about 2 miles from their factory building in Carlsbad and am at about 750 on the Accelerator Leaderboard. I volunteered to help set up so i mounted the animated light string that displays Aptera's green logo.
I complained to one of the engineers that i'd prefer to have a 2-motor Aptera because it would be more efficient. I stand disabused. He explained that motors can be optimized for acceleration or for efficient highway speeds, but not both. He hinted that the front-wheel motors 'could' be optimized for acceleration and the rear-wheel motor 'could' be optimized for cruising at highway speeds.
Chatting with Chris, he lamented that airfreighting Gamma to and from Abu Dhabi is costing about $45,000.
Also, i overheard a discussion with a prime guest that included a figure over $100 million. Optimism abounds.
Thanks for the first-hand information!
Nice to hear genuine vehicle fabrication information. I think this marks a high point for Aptera competence. Did you get a feel for when design will be completed such that they can begin all the details of building PI? I think they should consider skipping crash testing. For what it would cost, just add 1 or 2 more air bags. It ranks as a motorcycle so proceed on that fabrication path.
@@artsmith103 Air bags have to be calibrated, too, and this is usually done using crash tests, although CAE simulations can be used in addition.
Note: I have worked with sodium azide used in air bags, and it is rather nasty stuff to work with, and great care must be taken to handle it safely.
@@n.brucenelson5920 Aptera market is already pursuing niche of people pursuing their style of bling. Until Aptera can afford time and cost of crash testing, I expect more than half of Accelerators would purchase without crash testing. Safer than a motorcycle, more dangerous than a Prius is good enough for many.
I have no air bag experience. Any additional airbag will be less than optimum squeeze into available space. I'm not expecting 100% effective. Just a thought to proceed quicker with less excuses. Any Accelerator that wants, can wait for crash testing and not lose future spot in line.
@@artsmith103 - Plus, with traditional car companies, they have the experience and knowhow to get the airbag specs and deployment right. Many don;t understand that they crash many of their pre production vehicles themselves just so they can continually fine tune their information they feed into the computer. As they say, garbage in garbage out.
Aptera does not have that experience, thus they will have to make lots of assumptions. Plus, airbag manufacturers are leery with startups ad anyone knows, that unit is full of liability. So, why sell an airbag to a startup who can't prove it's not going to kill someone by over-performing or under-performing?
I believe there are too many people today that know little if anything about R&D or engineering who think that pretty pics or simulations are the answer to everything. Think about it, it's like Pixar vs some small startup. They could use the same software but Pixar has years of experience to draw from and it shows in the final product. I will repeat, garbage in garbage out.
I attended this event. That's me in the black shirt with the green stripe. They were entertaining a man who represents potential investors and wanted him to have a chance to meet some of the engineers and some of the community. He seemed very enthusiastic. Afterwards, some of us got to go to HQ. I got some pictures of the BINC and we got to see the solar assembly but they asked us to not take pictures of the solar.
Heads up in case you hadn't heard. Steve Fambro will be on "how I made this" on NPR tomorrow morning
Thanks for the very optimistic update!
Nice to know. Thanks Steve.
They've presumably met with possible production investors many times. Hope this time is the charm. Maybe they won't discuss investor negotiations in detail, but I'm curious to know terms they've rejected. I understand the reluctance to surrender too much control even to an investor providing many times the capital they've already raised (which they presumably need to reach profitable production), but I'd like to now what investors have offered thus far.
I'm a fan, so I wonder why large investors aren't beating down their door, but it's obviously not happening. EV startups are very risky, but what else do potential investors know about Aptera, like early efficiency and range claims vs. test results and early price claims vs. a realistic starting price? Can you find an investor who made an offer that Aptera rejected?
Fambro has alluded to an offer but they would have to relocate the operation. Possibly somewhere in Europe. Both Co-CEO's choose to stay in Carlsbad California.
Great video. Thanks for the information. This is certainly better news than the UAE "Golden Jet" gimmick.
I can confirm that the invitations we're primarily based on how close people were to the event.
I'm not anticipating a big enough investment to begin production at this time, with the actual completion of a PI vehicle a couple of months out, but it sure would be a welcome surprise if either of these events did produce one.
I'm happy just to see so many updates coming out so quickly. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how the unveiling of the Union Edition program goes.
So much anticipation!! Thank you Steve!
These are exciting times for those of us who have been rooting for Aptera. Glad to see Aptera "working it." The market is challenging, but Aptera Motors is proving to be smart in so many ways.
Interesting
Aptera is going to need all the investments it can get if they're ever going to produce their vehicle.
Excellent. I hope something comes of this or someone else or some other group comes through.
Aptera needs to expedite their production schedule. The EV prices are falling like a manhole cover from the sky. BYD is expected to launch a $12,000 - 200 mile range car, this year.
Tony Seba predicts a $6,000 EV with 200 mile range by 2030. And he has got more than 80% of his predictions correct.
😂😂😂
"Aptera needs to expedite their production schedule." I 100% agree
The rest of what you said concerns me too. But I don't trust anyone who is "good" at predicting the future.
BYD is a Chinese EV automaker that transitioned from making batteries with the help of the Chinese government. I'm not sure that would give US buyers pause.
@@Fairburne69 Tony Seba runs a company called Rethink-X, is a Stanford University prof., and a well known futurist. He has been right on the dot on clean energy disruptions and end of 'Fossil Fuel' era with his S-Curve predictions.
BYD has zero plans to begin sales in the US in the near future. The cars they are delivering in China are super cheap yes, but would not be street legal in the US. They also catch fire a lot more often than Teslas. They're also heavily subsidized by the Chinese government. Even if they were imported they would face pretty stiff tariffs because of that, bringing the price way up. This really no threat of BYD bringing super cheap cars to the US and disrupting the market here anytime soon
where and when was this event held? was it in Abu Dhabi?
hoping for good news from them.
This is off topic, but my concern relates to FSD. As a Tesla owner with the latest 12.3 version, it’s hard to imagine owning a future car without this feature. Aptera could also be an ideal candidate for robo-taxi.
Is there any chance Aptera could license Tesla’s FSD? Now would be the time to design and integrate the hardware. Early adopters still require 2 to 3 years to implement fully.
lol that will never happen. And who cares about Tesla's FSD when you'll end up paying only a few cents per mile to drive anywhere within a 1000 miles? Not to mention Tesla's FSD is a complete misnomer that continues to get worse and worse press every year. The lipstick on the pig is fading.
Hi Steve. Do you recall the approximate min. remaining investment that Aptera needs in order to start production?
60 million. But it's not quite that simple. I'll be doing a video next week about it
@@ApteraOwnersClub
How much do they need the first year after start of production, that's the even harder part
@@shrimptopian3392 If they can produce 6k vehicles the first year, then theoretically they won't need any money not they won't be able to use more. All they will need to do is celebrate with a shrimp cocktail.
@@jonj9149
😂 You take everything they say for true
6k... That would be fantastic... Let's keep that in mind. For now.
Thanks for providing us this important information/insight into Aptera's efforts to procure funding for production and continuing operations. This kind of information from AOC, always furnished in a timely manner is why AOC is the premier channel for important Aptera information. We wish them luck in their efforts in both parts of the world.
What is the name of this first model Aptera ? Looks like a piper cub ?
Cubby? 😂
Aptera
My biggest concern is if Tesla comes out with a $25K car and the EV tax credit is applied to it you can kiss Aptera goodbye. It will become a quirky vehicle. They need to get production going and Aptera presence needs to be seen on the road. For me it comes down to whomever comes first Tessla 25K or Aptera. The use of Tesla charge stations is a must because it is the only one that is reliable.
Let's say Aptera's future to ever deliver LE is optimistic. That puts them even more delayed to ever finish $25K model, relative to your concern.
Aptera is after a different niche. There’s room for them in the marketplace. But they do need to ramp sooner than later.
Tesla could come out with a $10k car. Doesn't matter to me, I'm not buying it over the Aptera. Price matters, but it isn't the only thing that matters.
The window where the Aptera makes any sense is rapidly closing with the advance of batteries. Relatively soon, EVs will routinely have a range of over 500 miles and people will choose a car with a more practical shape since the advantage of being super efficient will be small. The Aptera may survive as a niche novelty vehicle if the price is low enough.
@@patrickhawley1392 By your logic, nobody should have reserved either the 250 mile range or 400 mile range Apterae, or signed up for the Accelerator program since the Tesla Long Range and other E.V.s "with a more practical shape" that travel such distances are already on the market.
I used to work under Jared Campbell at my last job. He was my bosses boss. He was really easy to work for. Really great guy!
Very cool!
Funny, I also run ultras. …but I do it to get away from people. No more road marathons for me.
Steve, ever think/could you/would you quit your day job?
Thanks for doing these videos.
I've been waiting since 2007 for an Aptera. My daughter was starting kindergarten then. Today she has now completed college and will enter medical school in August. I'm hoping to have an Aptera before she is a doctor. I've been waiting for a long time and have become more skeptical about this team's ability to push something to production.
I'm not a fan of this "solar mobility" spin to Aptera, since it distracts attention from getting to market early; it makes it more complicated to engineer, more expensive to produce, and will ultimately be a disappointment for people who don't understand it will only give you a few extra miles per day if you are willing to let your car bake in the sun which could degrade the battery in the long run.
The vinyl wrap will also suffer.
Keep in mind, this leadership team had to restart everything in 2019. They are not the leadership team that failed in the first run, they were kicked out when the CEO decided to pivot to four wheelers instead. The additional delay due to them going with CPC vs hand-built bodies has been frustrating, but it looks like the final product will be far better because of it. I remain excited!
Regarding solar, it sounds like the solar is ready to go for production, and has been for a while. I don't think it was ever a bottleneck for them. And I doubt parking your car in the sun will degrade the battery. They have active cooling, and BMS, so there's no risk of that.
@@artsmith103 No word yet that the wrap will be vinyl. We don't yet know the material.
This UAE thing is good......... AS LONG as their vehicles do not get pushed into production before OURS do. I will be so pissed to find out that I've been waiting 3+ years, and then all the sudden their gold cars go first.
The UAE edition will be built after the accelerator LE editions and the Paradigms are finished.
I disagree. If one of those UAE versions comes with a stipulation that those 53 are made first to get all of the funding they need, then I will be happy. I don't know of a single reservation holder would mind waiting 10.6 hours longer to get their Aptera. It is not much to ask if it guarantees full funding. If not, then the reservation holders might have to wait much longer. It's either 10.6 hours longer or T minus 9 months (where T is the unknown amount of time).
It could mean getting it faster because if they get all of the funding they dream of, that they could build multiple plants right away and someone like reservation holder 50K, will get their Aptera much quicker. Then the 1000 mile version will be in production much faster.
meh. i banked on them performing to their stated targets when i signed my last ev lease.... and now i have three years left to go on my model y. take your time.
I was thinking of doing something similar, getting a used EV now until my build number comes up.
The U.S. market is primed for Solar Mobility.
The next twelve months will be special.
With some lucks, the maturity of Perovskite solar panels will boost the efficiency to next level and make solar mobility a way of life for less affluent folks.
PI schedule????
All of this collateral fodder amazes me.
Go back to the 12/21 Aptera Update and listen to the delivery projection of late ‘22.
Go back to the 12/23 Aptera Update which began with “We’re on the cusp of something big…”
Listen to the strategic plan for 16 PI’s with the first 3 assignments under “The Most Efficient Vehicle Validation Possible”.
And look at where they are 4 months later.
How many times do you allow yourself to have your trust taken advantage of before you demand they earn it?
One vehicle that can actually demonstrate the claims would be nice, no?
Will this investors get the shared for a lower price than the previous private investors
Aptera shared this a couple days ago! Old news again!
This isn't old news for everyone. That's why channels like this are great. They help spread the "old news" to as many people as possible.
Feel free to stop watching the channel if you find no value in it.
@gmv0553. Where are your Aptera videos since apparently you think you can do better?
Instagram has so much useless content, that I do not waste my time with it. AOC filtering out the actual news from Instagram works for me. I hadn't seen this before.
I hadn’t seen it, so thank you Steve :-)
