Going on year 2 of reducing the contents of 3000 sq ft to a small trailer. Repurposing everything via EBay, Craigslist and donations. The stuff that you think are emotionally attached too is easily forgotten once it’s gone. Have redefined my quality of life during the process.
I inherited hundreds of Cds form my late mom. She always said they were gonna be mine. But after very much thought, I was able to give some away and selling others. Because we don’t use them anymore… we have RUclips and Spotify today. So, my conclusion afterall was: she gave me as inheritance was NOT the Cds… was the good taste for music 🎶 And that’s what matters the most. ❤
Slowly. My problem was being bullied throughout my childhood and then decades being married to a narcissist. I started decluttering this year (July 1st) and have been doing a little bit at a time daily and have made more progress in that short period of time than I ever had in my lifetime. Many thanks 🙏 for your channel it has been a gift from God. ❤
My son desperately needs even a slow declutter. Almost every inch of his 960 square ft house are covered with his guitar making supplies and various other clutter!! He has ONE trash can in his home. Living in the Bay Area, I can see there is a big psychological issue with spending. Everyone feels intense pressure to “keep up with the Jones’” and it’s sad. (It IS possible to live here but you cannot indulge every whim. I lived on $500 a month after I paid my rent.) Wastefulness is not only a panacea of the rich.
Me too! Childhood being bullied by classmates and my mother. String of relationships with evil narcissists. All of them just variations of my mother. Finally cut off the last narcissist this year too. I also have made way more progress now than I have in years.
As you peel ea. Layer to remember. As you let go, forgive yourself, and love yourself to remember that you survived it. And that you are this wonderful and unique person, and those that bullied, they were damaged people. Tell that child in you, I love you.
I started this journey 2 years ago. I can't see myself ever going back. I decluttered my mind as well, allowing me to write 2 books. My 1st will be out next week. I'm so happy and I thank the minimalist for it.
The right speed is the speed right for you. I am a slow declutter but what I find is invaluable is to maintain the areas you do declutter, you have to live with a clean area and all the feelings it gives you. When the next declutter urge hits you, you won't have to go back to the first area and already gotten into the habit of keeping an area clear. you declutter so you can live your life more freely.
Jesus!!!! TK- you need your own gig - I love the minimalist- but your calling is a Life Coach. I can resonate with your ability make sh*t make sense- I spend every day breaking things down for people - haha! And your ability to make things break down beautifully- is amazing!
I recently made a purchase of a hoodie I just loved. It didn't appear to be on sale but I asked the cashier if there was a discount available and he gave me 25% off! I was pleasantly surprised and so glad I asked. 😊
I have never heard someone explain coupons in that way before. That makes so much sense! The company is not trying to save you money. They are enticing you to spend your money with them.
I declutter slowly. This summer I was off work for surgery recovery. After I was able to move (got about 75%recovered) I began the process of dealing with ALL the neglected piles. I know, after the 1 st pass through, that it will require several passes. I get decision fatigue a sense of loss and a sense of relief, lots of mixed thoughts. Going slow helps me to acclimate to my new surroundings.
TK at 4:15 was spot on - people leave you alone more if you seem stressed out, pile on if you look like you can handle it, so its a defensive mechanism. Holy Smokes. .....Just everything TK says.
I told my husband TK’s brain is like none other I’ve seen. He has the most wonderful perspective every time an issue is discussed and more importantly, he can convey those perspectives wonderfully in layman’s terms!
Yes, I live in Minnesota and that is also a non-written rule. If it’s on the curb, it’s free for the taking. And if you live in a apartment complex, there is usually a table in the community room, or a bench by the stairs/elevator where people can place things they no longer want, it’s actually pretty cool because some people have not any transportation or even physically able to walk to the thrift store
If you have number of things of certain type you really want to get rid of but something keeps stopping you, i found it helpfull to go through them carefully and check if there are some hidden treasures you REALLY REALLY REALLY want to keep. For example some time ago i bought a bunch of decorative tin signs and never did anything with them. So decided to get rid of them but a voice in me resists ... At the end after playing with them what if i get rid of these and keep these ... or these and these ... etc I realize there is ONE i absolutelly love, that resonates with what i want in life and REALLY lifts my spirits. From then it was super easy to let go of rest and keep THAT ONE ;-) . That even made the ONE much more precious than what i considers a bunch of them to be. The one gem finally got a space to shine!
I'm nearing the end of the minimalist game and I've changed it up a bit so some days I've done 50 items another day I did about 80 so by time I'm finished it will be 465 give or take. So I would say I declutter slowly in large chunks. Good episode 👍
Agreed Also all the stuff people have given me for free (their own clutter), I'm no longer saying yes to everything because now I can afford it if I really want it lol
TK hit the nail on the head so many times in this episode. I especially loved the advice about travelling and not trying to "save" extra 10 seconds here and there unless absolutely necessary. Don't waste your life in the name of being resourceful. Love this!
Decluttering has so many layers into it! I discovered the concept of minimalism twenty years ago and it is still an ongoing wonderful journey. I find that the practice of decluttering, wich lends to questionning and reflecting, really healing, and I like coming back to these sorts of videos to reset and coming back to the essentials. Minimalism has completely changed the quality of my everyday life,my relationship with finances and even my stress levels😊. Of course, clutter is indeed,a first world problem but it is also linked to major pollution, financial issues and lost of personal time and has to be alnowledged,I believe. Thank you for this video, you guys are eloquent and fun. Cheers from France
I love this 🌟 and JFM saying the easiest way to save money is to not buy it in the first place. Brilliant 🌟 love you guys you bring so much value to my life 🌟 🌟
Great video! If you own your own place then it can be very difficult to declutter but if you are renting and never owning a house or an apartment, It pays to keep your stuff limited and own less. If you ever have to leave your rented house or apartment you have little to move!😊😊
To the caller asking about coupons. What I do is keep them in my time will tell box. It’s a pretty magazine box that I turn backwards so it looks nice on the shelf. I go through it regularly and recycle the coupons, and other things stored in there if I don’t use them. This way they are available if I want to use them but I don’t have to see them in my uncluttered space.
The info about the hoarder gives me an idea. I've had my sons folded clothes in my bedroom for weeks. He's not looking for any of these items. I'm going to challenge that clutter demon and bag them!!!
Our house burned down when I was in JR HIGH and right AFTER Christmas. It was terrible, but it taught me that it's just STUFF. I still have a few things from my childhood, because it survived the fire, but I have a different perspective for sure after that.
TK! Yessss. Your comment on letting the other person win that little race in public. I SO identify with this. Been doing the same thing for years now. I just like my space, serenity, and freedom. I don’t want to be in anyone’s way or feel pressured.
My family is doing the minimalist game this month. We have not done it in order, but count things and cross off that day. We are 47 things away from completing the challenge.
For me, doing this slowly so I do not burn out, and gives me time to think carefully rather than knee jerk where to put the things I keep so it makes sense. In the past decluttering never had staying power because it was done too fast and not much thought to organizing. Now with the added goal of minimalising, so much better!
Stumbled upon you. Insightful, contemplative, meaningful and a real education with TJ about economic disparities and signaling in society. Thank you so much. Will share with others.
21:21 to 22:05 oooh this is powerful. I've been trying to be a minimalist for a few years now (i know it doesn't sound like I am trying). While I have thrown and given away probably a 3 to 5 sacks worth of clothes (mine and mom's old clothes to charity), I'm still sitting in my office looking at accumulated clutter in my desk that I'm holding on too, like really good boxes that "I might" use especially this upcoming holidays to recycle and reuse...This got me heavy with your brother's story so I will keep this in mind and putting the boxes to trash right now! and will reevaluate the rest of my stuff again so I can only keep what I need...cz honestly my office is giving hoarder vibes at this point, and I do not wish to trash my life. I wanna find my actual purpose and I can feel it holding me back from what I really MUST do in life. Thank you for sharing this.
On the topic of coupons = there is almost always another coupon or sale coming, bc businesses need to sell their products. But in the past, I have stored certain coupons, then put in my phone calendar the expiration date, which would send me an alarm. But the pic idea is also a good idea.😊
I think a lot of people without money spend a lot of money on frivolous things because it tricks them into thinking they aren't poor. They think (subconsciously, of course) "If I buy a $5 coffee every morning, I'll feel rich and hide the bad feelings that come with facing the reality that I'm poor."
Or they/we are addicted to the hit of dopamine they/we get from buying/spending… poverty is a state that generally causes a lot of stress/anxiety and so few know how to create happiness that a small hit of dopamine is all they/we see as the easiest/quickest source of happiness.
I think it's also more that they have so little to celebrate with that they are grateful for even small things, life is short sometimes. There is no hiding being poor.
We don’t have coupons in Australia or if they are in magazines or newspapers, I don’t buy them. The only coupons I know were around in WW2 or The Great Depression. Living with the land, there is less reason to shop.
Quickly. I couldn’t cope with the minimalist game even though it’s a great idea because I didn’t/couldn’t stop myself at decluttering the “correct” number of items to be decluttered each day 🤣
I asked my friend (who was white, but had a lot of black friends and was married to a black woman) why all of his friends spent so much on designer stuff. He told me that was because, in general, that was the level of affluence they could attain, whereas, for the average white person, their “flex” was the nice home in the nice neighborhood that they could afford. So it was trying to show that you are successful at the economic level you were at. It was an interesting insight.
I live full time in a 24 foot RV with my partner. He is a camphost and we go to various state parks. I learned quickly how clutter will take over, if you let it. I have to be careful not to bring in stuff without getting rid of stuff. I try to recycle what i can, i use old clothes for cleaning rags, etc and i fold and put away clean clothes! Living this way is not true minimalist, but i do have only 3 coffee cups!
In my case, my decluttering is a process. Every year I check all my stuff and I always have something I want to give away. I love this process and I think it never finishes, cause we all change and grow ❤❤ Also, the minute you start decluttering, you realize the life you want. I quit college and realize how much I love music and languages ❤❤
absolutely on par with TK here about the calendar clutter , I feel like I have to put in even the times I have set aside to work on other things I can't work whilst in meetings all day, just so people won't add even more to my calendar..., it's terribly stressful. Great episode!
Taking this as a sign to get my shit together and finish my thesis! To the lady with the coupons: If you decide that they are not clutter to you, it might be better to store them somewhere where they are not in plain sight. I keep coupons in my file cabinet. I have an extra folder for these. My coupons are for online purchases only. So whenever I buy something, I go through the folder and use one if I have a coupon for this specific online shop. I go through this folder several times a year and discard those that are no longer valid. That might be an option for you, but keep in mind: Do you have the capacity to go through them regularly and throw out what has expired? For me, it's about 5-10 coupons I manage at the time, and it doesn't bother me. In fact, it is one of the first things I do when I go through my paper because it is easy and gets me started. It would be a different thing if I had to manage 50 coupons or keep coupons from shops I don't usually buy from. And second, do you have space for them? My coupons take up one file in my file cabinet that I cannot use for anything else. I chose to give them room because I get value from them. If you don't, then it's better to let them go.
WHY YOU GOTTA HIT ME LIKE THAT, TK???!!! F’ YOU!! DAAAANG. I. LOVE. YOU. I ultimately love what you said - it just really hit home, and pardon me for lashing out a moment …. but you had to see how much that stung me (in an astounding way) and how you struck me to my core. I APPRECIATE IT. ~Much love and humbleness from someone who collects morsels of happiness and creativity - but has also been diagnosed with [hoarding disorder]. I love you to the moon and back, yo. ✊😭
Funny, spices! Those are something I need to part with! I even got some from my friend who was decluttering. The thing that food insecure people are most in need of are spices. This donation would have been of great value to somewhere like Food Share. Take rice, for example. Alone it is highly bland, however if you spice it certain ways it makes several different dishes. A spicy casserole will taste like more, more satisfying, so you will eat less, and soups and stews, too. It's a good way to lose weight.
I think I should start with five minutes too. I took the day off thinking I would work on my clutter, but I got so overwhelmed that I did not do anything and now I feel terrible for wasting a day. Feeling depressed and so unproductive.
The Flylady always advised decluttering for 5 minutes. I also try to do her "27-fling boogie" and get rid of 27 items, which gets harder as the spaces get clearer. Her best lesson, though, is that you can't organise clutter. So many "organisers" out there want to make you believe it's possible, if you have enough pretty baskets, but it's not.
I do it in seasons, neither slowly nor quickly, and i declutter in batches so that is easier to group things up together, so i can spend on section by section decluttering on a monthly basis, cant do quickly, my heart can't take it if i declutter all at one go.
I have been decluttering for a while but since I started working I have started to backslide... we have a book swap and im finding myself bringing so many books home faster than I can read
I hiked a real difficult trail and how I did it was slowly, one step a time. I had a good time and felt good about my accomplishment. Just a thought. Slow down to speed up.
When I was a teenager at a government internship, the first piece of advice from a colleague was: Always LOOK swamped. If someone asks you to tackle something, tell them you have a ton on your plate but you'll definitely get to it in a few days. Needless to say that internship was pointless.
Wow, I had no idea someone could talk so long and fervently about whether or not to keep a coupon. If having it on the fridge bugs you, put it in a drawer or pitch it. There, saved you about 15 minutes 😉
Decluttering can be hard because when we declutter our physical possessions, we declutter with it our expectations and some limiting beliefs that we’ve almost always had. We also welcome new beliefs systems and a new perspective. I think it’s a true grieving process.
My favourite thing to do with coupons is to put them in my wallet and when I'm in the isle in the store and I see someone put the item in their cart, I give them my coupon. I used to love doing this in the grochery store but now the coupons are tied to our loyalty cards so I just throw those ones away.
Slow but consistent. Setting up systems and schedules while emotionally processing the decisions might help her along the way. It's part of growing. You're learning cleaning and organization skills too. You do feel different after you achieve something like that so I think she's worrying for nothing. Big dreams eventually turn into daily tasks if you keep at it.
dana k- white:" decluttering at the speed of life" is PRECISELY how to do it well for people who might have anxiety about decluttering. she is also hilarious.
I declutter at a pace which maintains motivation. If it’s too slow I feel stagnant; too fast and I become worried about making rash decisions. I don’t have excess amounts of stuff now, but when I do declutter I have a probation pile whereby if I’m uncertain about an item I give it extra time before deciding whether it stays or goes. It usually ends up going, but it gives me a bit of thinking space for more tricky items, without slowing me down while I deliberate. I can continue in my decluttering quest and revisit a probation item at the end.
You missed the whole “old money” trend where “normal” people emulate the trends of those who have always had money, that is, “old money” doesn’t have to prove their wealth to anyone. They consciously avoid products with obvious brand logos, because that’s seen as a marker of the “new rich” or those who want to be seen as rich, even if they aren’t. The truly rich don’t need to prove themselves to anyone.
Well I'm going to have to pick up the pace because where my stuff is being stored is being sold, I don't have enough room to store ALL of it, and there is a definite deadline where there wasn't before. Yikes. So emotional touching all mine and my daughter's stuff from when we left our home years ago. Slow and steady wins the race for me personally.
Expiration dates are real... Because they don't work after the date. Josh doesn't use coupons because he has enough money not to worry. Sometimes, Josh can sound a little pompous. Also, photos of coupons sound like digital clutter. Hold onto your coupons; store them better than on the fridge door.
His point is that the expiration date is arbitrary and meant to encourage you to buy something you don’t need just to have the feeling that you saved money, when you could save a lot more money by not buying an unnecessary thing. His point is to change your mindset about coupons when the coupon is not for something necessary (if it was for something you needed then you wouldn’t have any reason to go back and forth in your mind about keeping it vs throwing it away). You get rich by keeping and investing your money. The caller was bothered by having the coupons on her fridge, and his suggestion to take a picture is a solution that may actually work for her since she doesn’t like having the physical coupon.
It's weird watching this when you practically own nothing because your young and just starting out living on your own. Like bruh I wish I had a little clutter😂
I agree totally with the idea of decluttering beeing a tool! I have decluttered my entre life ever since I moved from my parents. I didn’t know it was called decluttering then ( maybe it wasn’t? as it is more than 40 years ago). I didn’t know that there was anything called minimalism either but I could see friends struggle with what I thought were too much stuff. My friends complianed about me or were baffled. I got questions like is that the same pair of shoes you had the last years? Don’t you have any others? Or do you only have one mascara??? What if you loose that one? I didn’t know how to defend myself but I never felt good with too much… My husband & I declutter every week, even almost every day as clutter keeps coming in. The mascara that broke and I bought a new one or all kind of trash (adpapers sent to you, yuk!) You need to learn how to declutter as a part of you cleaning of your house/appartment. Which in my opinion is at least once a week! Thank You for your RUclips videos and your books. I am soon going to order the latest one, all the others I have read! You are inspiring!
Tip on coupons: you never have to save them anymore (unless it's survival things like medications and not getting ripped off by our sickcare system and pharmacies) because so much coupon distribution is automated now unless it's a very small business. If you lose a paper coupon, just sign up for their promos with a throwaway email, get the new coupon, then unsubscribe from the mailing list.
My photos and home movies of my children are the ONLY thing of pure worth and value in my life. “Soul” value. I have put them in albums since back in the day where you had to buy film and pay to develop photos. Since the digital world has come along I don’t get paper copies of photos, those ones live in my iCloud. The hard copies of photos are precious they don’t take much space. When my city was evacuated because of wildfires the only thing I loaded into the vehicle were the photos and movies. I was ok if my house burned with everything else in it, I had what was important. Tangible memories on paper for when my own memories start to fail. Memories on paper for my grown children to share with their children and grandchildren when we are gone. When I hear people talking about getting rid of old photos I think it is utterly asinine and astonishing. Never. That is the one and only thing of tantamount importance in life other than the people themselves depicted therein. The photos stay. Always.
It might be a good idea to have your old photos scanned and uploaded to the cloud as well, I think of people who weren't able to get home due to road closures at unfortunate and devastating times such as those caused by natural disasters.
For the coupon refrigerator thing, why not just put the coupons in an envelope and put them in a drawer? Then they can be out of sight. You can go through it 1-2 times a month and trash the expired ones.
We only use 20% of our stuff 80% of the time right? Sit down and without looking around, write down those things you use 80% of the time, all of it. See what didn't make the list, and those are the things you question first.
I just got started. I'm committing to getting in the habit of letting stuff go. I've sold some stuff and thrown some stuff away. I'm getting rid of one thing every day.
That sounds kind of goofy look busy when I was at work I loved being busy because the time went faster However, I do notice that I’m supposed to be doing taxes. All of a sudden I get some other big project done instead or I clean a whole bunch of stuff instead so I get what you’re saying in the beginning.
Just imho, the 3 most important words for decluttering aren't "just in case," but sale, free, and want. It's so easy to say, "I want this!" without considering if we want the space or the freedom more. Or, "Oh, it's on sale." Or even, "If you spend $50. here, you get this other stuff FREE!" Ugh!] Coupons can be counterproductive if you don't need the item. We get caught up in the 'Oh, a coupon!' mentality. Don't buy it in the first place and you won't have to declutter it!
All my life I was made to feel responsible. I was an only child and I was never spoiled. But my father put pressure on me to be responsible for everything that that to get done on the property, and there was nobody else to help us So I had no brothers or sisters to take the load off of me to help my dad. SO I took the load in every aspect. I didnt have much time for myself sometimes. I remember when I was 10 years old my dad who was a carpenter put a whole bunch of rocks and boulders in this huge big old steel wheelbarrow that I had to push. I remember this one tine when everything fell over and I started crying and he told me to stop crying and just pick it up and keep going, and not to feel sorry for myself. Those words help me to endure, but it made me take on too much that I couldn't handle at that age, but was not made to think that I couldnt. Sometimes we can take on more than what we can handle. But that comes with a cost. And I think responsibilities have to be handled in the a way that it's not quite as hard and quite a burden to our life. Because we're not perfect and we sometimes expect too much from ourselves. Especially when we worry too much about things that we can't handle on our own. For me letting go of things that I don't need makes me feel like i'm letting go of all the responsibilities that have always been put on me since I was a young child. It gives you a sense of freedom. It's ok to do things for yourself and make yourself happy and not always try to make everybody else happy in turn always be there for everyone. We can be responsible for ourselves and say it's okay. We can say to ourselves. We don't have to be there for everyone who calls us or everyone that wants of our time and attention. It's o k to let go of what is expected of you. And not to feel guitly for saying no.
We gave all seen people that are homeless riding a bicycle and they've got it full of So many material possessions that are weighing them down still. Do we want to appear like someone who is burdened down with material possession, or do we want to be someone who rides a bike to freedom regardless of the realities of what's happening in our world around us.
I think of when God created this Earth and every planet he knew exactly what he was doing. Everything he did was balanced The sun wasn't too close to the earth and neither was it too far away. If the earth was closer we would burn. If the sun was any further away we would freeze to death. So our goal should be to have our life balanced. So is worrying being balanced? Ask yourself is drinking to much alchol being balanced? Is there something in your life that is taking you on a tilt towards something that is not being balanced? If so then you're going to suffer. And it's could show up somewhere, somehow. And in many cases it could come out in hoarding.
Coupons that I need to use before expiration I keep in my wallet like cash. This way I remember I have them and actually use them when I’m at checkout and already reaching for my wallet.
When I first started, I rage decluttered quickly, all in one day. And that had its own benefits and consequences, but as the years passed, now I do more seasonal batch decluttering. I’m more skilled at knowing when to stop decluttering, when I’m doing it just because I’m anxious and I recognize when to hold off instead. I would advise that if someone is reluctant to declutter, do it s l o w l y, but if you know yourself and have high self awareness, then you can confidently go fast.
Hi, Malabama (i hopefully spelled your name correctly)....i saw a local Los Angeles area news segment, about your absolutely DELICIOUS -LOOKING "breakfast sandwiches from the Heavens" in our local los Angeles area, wherein, you home-cook your delicious breakfast sandwiches & lower them down to your customers, from your apartment, in the Echo Park area??? Please forgive me, if i ever i have gotten your neighborhood wrong. But i wish you abundance, happiness & prosperity, in your professional & personal endeavors...as i do, for all other amazing people on this channel. 🙏♥️ Uh oh.... maybe the breakfast sandwiches are made by a woman called "Calabama"??? Omg, idk now. But, this channel is still amazing, bc of all people involved in it.
"Clutter and the act of decluttering is debris IN THE ROAD not the destination." God that so unlocked something in me. I interpreted that to mean the goal is the road and your debris is this self sabotaging stuff you throw in your path out of fear. Sometimes some of us have a fear of not failure but success. Concluding we have fear of success out of feeling of being unworthy. Lastly if you "dont work hard" cause this is America, don't be lazy, don't be a slouch ,work hard. Cause if your goal(s) come to easy something must be wrong with it or you cause working hard is a mental achievement badge of conquering something. I come from a generation of folks with grit and grind. I'm learning I can put that idea albatross down now. Ive earned my stripes. Thank ou Joshua for the podcast.
Couponing needs to be done systematically. There are ways to file them, and they need to be gone through on a regular basis. Once you get it down, it becomes a routine and takes very little time and effort. I used to throw out wads of expired coupons like nothing. Plus, it saves you money! The thing is to scan the ads for deals, and then see if you have a coupon. As far as discounts go, if you're 55 or over, an Uber driver, on Medicaid.
Poverty taught me every single selected option had a outcome either for better or worse . Money was scarce all my life ! I did not let poverty define me nor did I surrender to it's mental mind set of slavery imprisonment .. I just became more inventive & stayed away from the radar of others as much as possible .. embarrassment was a cruel whip that so many enjoyed using .. God became my Father & His Son became my Savior .. the human life world became something to navigate through , that remains the same as an honest evaluation . I love people , but knowing my own emotional heart & the evil there in is no different than all human life .. Question is what is each individual's freewill going to select at any given time ? is not every option selected , selected for better or worse ?
Do you declutter quickly or slowly?
Slow and steady for me. It took me a few years to get rid of my many years of clutter.
Dude I mean super fast like I hold on to a trash bag and start throwing out upon how I feel that same exact moment.
Quickly! I love it!
Moderately between other jobs. Set goals/organizing one area and focus til finished. Breaks, meals, then back til finished.
My late husband Mike said this once and I never forgot it. “Any amount of money is a lot if you don’t have it.”
And that is so true!
Sorry for your loss. Your husband sounds like a wise man. 😊
😅

The T.K. co host is such an eloquent man, the things he says and how: wow!
I love when he says, "what it is...." LOL!!!
Yes, it is very fun to listen to how he says things plus he always has valuable things to say.
I started this journey 2 years ago. I can't see myself ever going back. I decluttered my mind as well, allowing me to write 2 books. My 1st will be out next week. I'm so happy and I thank the minimalist for it.
TK makes every conversation better, what great insight.
I was stunned as well. TK is so accurate
That's the point for me from the whole conversation. I seem to be occupied - or my kids will say : mommy, come and play......
TK, thanks a lot for your amazing point Don't trash your life in the name of being resourceful.
As I have more money in my budget I can declutter easier because I know I can always replace the item if I absolutely need to.
Agreed
Also all the stuff people have given me for free (their own clutter), I'm no longer saying yes to everything because now I can afford it if I really want it lol
Love your perspective on paying full price to keep your sanity. Get rid of the coupons!
TK hit the nail on the head so many times in this episode. I especially loved the advice about travelling and not trying to "save" extra 10 seconds here and there unless absolutely necessary. Don't waste your life in the name of being resourceful. Love this!
Absolutely! He's such a wonder! He should be studied in school 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
You are doing 'Just in case' 🤗
@@Recordings-ov4hv Just in case that week. 😂
Love Minimal Mom!!
Congrats! I wish more people could stumble on The Minimalists.
Please share to all your friends.... and foes 😂!!
Me too, right now, listening and reading your comment on 1st random viewer listener! Lots of good ideas and ways of looking at things .😊😊
Your guest has great wisdom. I love the clutter talk 😂. Yes, it does talk like that 😅
21:21 to 22:05 oooh this is powerful.
This has straight up turned into the church of minimalism.
100% agree@@Monkey-oy1us
I think it's also more that they have so little to celebrate with that they are grateful for even small things, life is short sometimes.
I love this process and I think it never finishes, cause we all change and grow ❤❤
Also, the minute you start decluttering, you realize the life you want. I quit college and realize how much I love music and languages ❤❤
Yeah TK!! Love that illustration ♥️
absolutely on par with TK here about the calendar clutter , I feel like I have to put in even the times I have set aside to work on other things I can't work whilst in meetings all day, just so people won't add even more to my calendar..., it's terribly stressful. Great episode!
Love TK , so easy on words , so clear ideas and communication
Taking this as a sign to get my shit together and finish my thesis!
To the lady with the coupons:
If you decide that they are not clutter to you, it might be better to store them somewhere where they are not in plain sight.
I enjoyed the storage of photos story. Beautiful ❤
We declutter five minutes a day. It has made a huge improvement.
This is SO true!
My favourite thing to do with coupons is to put them in my wallet and when I'm in the isle in the store and I see someone put the item in their cart, I give them my coupon. I used to love doing this in the grochery store but now the coupons are tied to our loyalty cards so I just throw those ones away.
I LOVE Sigur Ros! Great taste in music!
The truly rich don’t need to prove themselves to anyone.
depends on the items too. if they're sentimental items or not!
What a great listen - thank you. Some great words of wisdom.
'Hey, you don't wanna waste me, do ya?' 😂 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
Excellent TK!! That's exactly how the clutter devil gets hold of you!! Beware!! 👿
I thought I was the only person who could hear ketchup and mustard packets talking to me. TK has the shining too!
IMHO ~ I don’t get the point of agonizing over coupons for so long and the discounts ~ I tuned in re decluttering ~
Lol!! That’s in everybody’s neighborhood Joshua. We can leave things on the curb and it will be gone before the sanitation comes by.
Wow , this one was very helpful….Thanks.
T.K. Sir, you've just struck such a cord with me. Some items I haven't been able for whatever reason to get rid of, are going. Thank you 🙏💜
Great Topic Today !!!
Expiration dates are real... Because they don't work after the date. Josh doesn't use coupons because he has enough money not to worry. Sometimes, Josh can sound a little pompous. Also, photos of coupons sound like digital clutter. Hold onto your coupons; store them better than on the fridge door.
Yeah I have a folder of coupons that I never see unless I know I need them. Out of sight out of mind!
@@Nisalyn88 I get it. I understand his points. You don't need to defend them to me. I just disagree with them, and that's ok.
It's weird watching this when you practically own nothing because your young and just starting out living on your own. Like bruh I wish I had a little clutter😂
We have to watch what we wish for ❣️😂😂😊
Don't do it! Resist!😂
😂
Stay mindful of what you've got because in 10 years you could accumulate a lot and not even realise it.
Remember you have to maintain what you keep. You can give stuff to family when you no longer need it.
Ohh That was me at Sigur Ros!! I’m Jessica! Haha hi!
Thank you Kristen ,i struggle with photos
Slowly because im easily distracted
Regarding coupons, I would switch to using electronic coupons available through store apps. They do not take up space and are always with you to use.
We only use 20% of our stuff 80% of the time right? Sit down and without looking around, write down those things you use 80% of the time, all of it. See what didn't make the list, and those are the things you question first.
This is spot on. I've been trying this with drawers. List what I want to keep in there before I open it. Remove what didn't make the list.
Fascinating!!!
80/20 rule never fails
I just got started. I'm committing to getting in the habit of letting stuff go. I've sold some stuff and thrown some stuff away. I'm getting rid of one thing every day.
That sounds kind of goofy
look busy
when I was at work I loved being busy because the time went faster
However, I do notice that I’m supposed to be doing taxes.
Or, "Oh, it's on sale." Or even, "If you spend $50. here, you get this other stuff FREE!" Ugh!]
Coupons can be counterproductive if you don't need the item.
Do we want to appear like someone who is burdened down with material possession, or do we want to be someone who rides a bike to freedom
regardless of the realities of what's happening in our world around us.
What is: to be a intuitive consumer.
Great points!! 💯
Uh oh.... maybe the breakfast sandwiches are made by a woman called "Calabama"??? Omg, idk now. But, this channel is still amazing, bc of all people involved in it.
Awesome ❤
Chaos is a spell cast by people who don't have your best interests at heart sadly 😢
One of the other thing you need to let go is to fit into the word “minimalist”. It’s okay if you are not a perfect minimalist.
Omg where did you see Sigur Ros?!!
my trash man is still wondering when will i STOP setting things to the curb, lol
Regarding the coupons - just get them off the fridge, put them in a coupon organizer
How chill what’s up fam!
