I really really tried with this tutorial, but man I wish there was any kind of clarification. I think it would be so helpful if we could at least see the buttons you are pressing and the moment the snap tool is used and the "eye" layer is deleted I was out of there. I couldn't figure it out for hours. I'm excited for the time in my blender journey where tutorials like this support my growth. Right now, this style is a bit more discouraging for me. Thank you for taking the time to create it though. I hope to revisit and try again further in my blender journey.
Me too , The iris , the lines showed up in 1/4 of the eye . 1/4 is white . I don't know what I am doing really . I've messed with all the nodes trying to fix it . Hopefully I'll figure it out . Goodluck to you also ! There's not just one way of doing something in Blender . A lot to remember . However , the more you do things the better you'll become . There's a lot of good teachers on YT . Don't let one thing discourage you .
I've downloaded blender like 2 days ago. And this is the most helpful tutorial i have found! (I probably should have learned the basics first probably but meh) If a newbie like me can do that with your guide, anybody can. Thank you so much
I played around with this thing and a crucial info is missing from the video so that any viewer can actually make a custom eye based on these instructions. Mapping Z = -1.4 in this example. That is the value you can change in order to align the color ramp transparency if it cannot be positioned further than half of the eye on your side as well. Other than that, the video is good.
Idk what tutorial you watched but I'm 2 minutes in and it hasn't explained anything xD Just "do this, now do this" not "Do this because it does this" once from what I can tell.
@@Incrementium If you really want to be nitpicky, then yes, this tutorial does not really explain why to do certain things and how the used nodes work for example. But it doesn't really need to do that, because as long as you follow it step by step, even as a total beginner you can create basically the same effect... Which is the whole point. The sort of knowledge you are looking for is not something you'll often find on RUclips. I'm not saying you won't find it anywhere, but usually people want money for courses in which they tell you all the why's to how's. It's not really needed though to get proficient with Blender, as it's mostly just practice, and for that, videos like this are great.
Exactly what I needed. I am working on a new character that needs a good pair of eyes. Update now that I'm rigging. The fact that the Mapping is set to object, causes all the texture data to slide around the eyeball when the eyes is skinned and moves around. Solution is to parent the eyeball to the DEF bone instead if skinning it like the rest.
i turned the iris into UV texture. It ended up making the eye appear glowy but thankfully that worked for my project. I imagine there's a way to keep the iris procedural but project it in UV space but I didn't have time to learn how to do that! @@tetmayer2015
I need help, I was able to make my eye and all but when I mirror the eye to the other socket the textures on the other eye does not show up the same way as in the original
😭😭this had been the hardest tutorial to follow i have come across with many important details omitted from the narration. Nice concept but more work is needed on teaching it😢
This is not a basics tutorial. it's assumed you should already know what are you doing. That why there are plenty of basics tutorials or full explanations of how blender works. Heck, blender has ALL documentation and people never bother in going and read it. READ, it's important. you cannot complain on details being omitted if you don't look for that information.
I followed this tutorial a few weeks ago while moddeling a character for a study project and i'm starting the rig process at the moment. So, when I move the head (and therefore the eyes) the iris just disappear. If I do understand correctelly, they're bound to their original position, something like that, right? Like, this happens in edit mode (as normal, I guess) but also in pose mode, so I assume that this will be an issue while animating it. As it's probably clear by now, I'm kind of a noob at those things yet so, any idea on how exactly should I resolve this problem? I imagine it would be something like typing some simple code instead of a flat number at some place during the node process, I just don't know neither what neither where. Besides that, really good tutorial, ty.
Aparentelly I solved the main problem just changing all the iris stuff to UV and changing some parameters, which makes sense, since they wore attached to the object, that stays still while being posed/edited/etc. The issue now is that I can't use the value node to re-size the iris, cause the parameters i've had to set to make everything look the same as the tutorial makes the scale also change the position of the black part of the iris, so as I scale it, it moves diagonaly. I'm not sure if that's something you would be able to help me since i've had to set specific values to make my project work, but again, i'm a noob making assumptions based on noob knowledge. Anyway, if this became a common issue, I'd ask you to answer how exactlly prevent this situation to happen. Ty.

Why can’t I get my eye layer to snap to my outer like in 1:37 . I have the selection. I hit g without moving mouse. Left click. Boom. Nothing happens the selection disappears and it’s not snapped to the outer. I checked that my snap magnet key was turned on and everything.
check your objects origins, or check if all transforms are applied before snapping things. most of the time i have an issue, is something as simple as that.
I have used the shader for my character's eyes. However, I want to animate it, but when I move the character, the shader doesn't work correctly anymore. I tried baking it, but I always get a black image texture. Is there another way to bake the shader and use it as a texture, or can I somehow freeze the position so that the eyes remain as desired no matter where the character is in the scene?
My mapping coordinates are really messed up . -0.4 X/ Y does not move it correctly . I had to manually calibrate it so it falls in the front . Anyone has any ideas why this got messed up in my project ?
After all struggles I’ve made these eyes and rigged them, but when I tried to animate my character head with those eyes : irises disappeared . I’ve noticed while following tutorial that changing location ruins irises shader system. Tutorial is good and informative but isn’t it a bit useless if it not work while animating
When you see "mapping" node in the tut - it's a skipping flag. I don't know a less reliable thing in blender. You can't animate these eyes, as iris stay in place because of mapping set to "object".
I was so close to finishing the eye, but the is no mix shader and now i'm stressed because I got this far and I can't complete any eye tutorials, I need help with that mix node. I don't know what to do,
there is a mix shader. it's just called different. there are many. just add nodes until you see the one that has the same options as the one you see in the tutorial. it happens all the time as blender updates very often and some nodes are added or removed for being redundant.
it's probably you moved your "outer object" using object mode instead edit mode . to fix this right click your "outer object" on Object mode -> set origin -> origin to giometri and done
I couldn't do it after 6:50. I decided differently - I deleted Mix Color, and connected Noise Texture to the lower Mapping in the Rotation slot Did it help? Like it so it helps others! Love you all! Always yours, white fox ^_^
There's no such thing as Add UV Sphere Menu. But you do have to go to a couple of menus to get to the selection called UV sphere. Press shift + a. There will be a menu that pops up. Select the first option called Mesh. A different menu will pop up and you can scroll through the selection to UV sphere. Or go to the top of the screen to the set of tabs right below layout, modeling sculpting... there should be a menu called "add". Click that and it will drop down. Under add, select Mesh and a different menu will pop up. Scroll through the selection and you shall come across "UV Sphere". I'm not using 3.5 but I'm sure the shortcuts and the UI can't change that dramatically, right?
this eye cannot scale or move because of the texture coordinate is locked in the origin of the object, if you want to use this eye for character its going to be useless
Been stumped on the same thing; what made it work was: FIRST select the grid in the eye. Then using ctr and select both inner and outer eye in the listing on the right (both then in edit mode). Select in the 'snapping' tool (where face orientation is selected) ALL the target selection. Now do the g + Left mouse click and it should snap now. If this doesnt work for you... then it was a fluke, but here it worked. good luck!
