If I had to guess, based on Poppy’s actions and things she said during chapter 2, Poppy truly did intend to help you escape at first before Mommy Longlegs captured her. However, after seeing seeing the main character’s intelligence and physical capabilities through all of Mommy’s “games”, Poppy realized they were her best shot at “fixing” whatever happened at the factory, and decided to keep them there to help her. It would seem she herself isn’t even completely sure of what needs to be done, but based on what she’s seen, she’s confident the main character will be able to do whatever it is.
It probably has to do with what was behind the door that grabbed half of mommy's body after she died , my guess it has to do with more supernatural than anything else . I mean y'all did see the thing with them long sharp fingers right ?
I think the thing with the Edward scissor hands fingers is a monster itself they had kept away for a reason and as the toys died it used their parts to put itself together so I’m assuming it’s the final boss and more characters are yet to come and every-time they die the hands take their parts because mommy said something like “don’t make me apart of him” or something like that
