As a Chelsea fan of 53 years, that's a blast from the past. All those players were instantly recognisable, even some of the Burnley ones. I can imagine the difficulty today's players would have controlling the ball on that pitch.
I remember that so well. Chelsea beat us in the reply 3-1 aet with the late Peter Houseman having a superb game after Ralph Coates put the Clarets ahead with a 30 yarder.
Yes, it's mentioned on his wikipedia page. It was the only match on Chelsea's victorious cup run where no footage exists or ever existed. Houseman was excellent throughout the cup run and scored 6 goals in total, but his best game in a Chelsea shirt was sadly never captured for posterity.
I’m a Claret and went to the replay at the Turf as an 11 year old Ralph Coates scored a screamer in a packed ground but Chelsea beat us and went on to win it I think
Hmmm....Martin Dobson, signed by Burnley from Bolton on a free transfer, 4 years later became the second most expensive player in British football when he moved to Everton for £300,000. Doesn't say much about the quality of management at Bolton in this era.
Chelsea won the replay 3-1 (Houseman 2 and Baldwin) and went on to win the Cup. The replay was the only Chelsea match in their cup winning season which wasn't televised.
He starred in a 2-0 win over then world champions West Germany & they could not believe he had played so little for the national team. But injuries plagued him & I think he would admit that his overall attitude did not help him at times.
@@beds139 and once Hurst was past his best Chivers was probably the best number 9 in the country. After Chivers international career ended following the Poland debacle Osgood played in the following game against Italy but he too was probably past it in a declining club side then
In those days, it was 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw. 22 teams in Division 1, which means each team played 42 matches. 66 points from 42 matches is really impressive.
Mellor had a great start in his Burnley career. Can you imagine a non-league player - and Mellor wasn't even playing in the top non-league - moving from that level to the top division in 2021?
# Ohhh Alan, Alan. Alan, Alan Alan, Alan Stevenson # 🥅🏐🖐️🖐️ When the teams changed halves after half - time Alan would get a good reception as he approached the Bee-hole end goal.Great memory's.

Ralph Coates my hero of all time... RIP Ralph never forgotten in Lancashire
Ralph Coates a legend of Burnley.
favourite era of football for me looking back as when started going - but the goalkeeping was awful back then
Who's here in 2020, 50 years later? I think Sean Dyche was Burnley's manager in 1970 as well.

@@hauntboy Just watched this again. A sad end for Houseman, an underrated winger.

Sounds like the quality of management there in the last 12 years.

Chelsea mugs singing "you'll never walk alone".
As did plenty other football teams fans did back then
@@KENNYPAUL2 They're also mugs then.
Mug.
Alan Hudson - what super skill setting up the second with ease. Englands loss.
Osgood should have played more for England too.
@@mizofan Yes, and don't forget Johnny Hollins too, just the 1 solitary cap in 1967.

@@mizofan In his prime years he had to contend with the fact that Geoff Hurst was always going to get picked in front of him.

Well done Clarets, hope we win the replay? Not to be we Lost 3-1😩🏐🥅
How did Burnley get Dobson on a free, quality player for several years after that .
Best forward Chelsea, but Burnley put something else: beautiful play.
Everton finished Champions that season....with a record 66pts.....

Mellor had quite a few.

i'm glad burnley didn't score from that outrageously illegal corner.
Burnley was Chelsea's bogey team at Stamford Bridge games.
Was at The Bridge in 1978 when we beat Burnley 6-2 in a 4th round FA Cup replay. Went on to lose against Orient.
Paul Fletcher scored after 1minute for Burnley and then Chelsea went on to stuff us 6-2. 😩🏐🥅.
