    Hey friend, I was watching your video and thinking, You know the wire gauge on the magnetic? You need to make something with a oil soaked cloth rubbing on the flywheel to keep a thin coat of oil on the flywheel as you are cutting it down..... Then your cutting tool will last longer!

    I think there’s a step missing...... after machining wouldn’t you have to re-harden the face by tempering the steel again since you’ve just machined off part or all of the hardened face......?
    I also would have thought the angle grinding step would be a little imprecise with a fibre disk and way too hot on the face and soften the metal further which weakens the flywheel face.....
    Looks like an effective repair but I wonder how long it would last.....
    I think you need to look at temperature and maybe another step that re hardens the surface....

    • @yeezywesty3651
      @yeezywesty3651 3 года назад

      the clutch experiences heat and tempers itself the friction when in use...

      @@yeezywesty3651 without being uniformly heated to known temperature and quenched in oil or water depending on the required hardness..... oil is better.....
      yes it does experience heat and tempers itself the problem is the new tempering is softer.......

    • @yeezywesty3651
      @yeezywesty3651 3 года назад

      you would see flywheels made of more exotic materials if they weren't supposed to wear down.... a tempered surface would just develop cracks and chew the friction plate to pieces in no time... you need the lump of metal to be soft but not soft enough it can't be machined or provide enough grip, the flywheel is heat treated from the factory, this is adequate because it's a consumable part,, the surface is going to wear down anyway so nobody is going to bother tempering a face flyface. . there's a lot of science to this.

    As a 40 year machinist I see a few things wrong in the creation of this video. Obviously workplace safety is not practiced at this shop.
    First, loose clothing should not be worn when working around a lathe. Thats a good way to loose body parts if distracted even for a split second. And lastly, where are his safety glasses!

      @@yeezywesty3651 True enough Yeezy. However, I must admire the workers ability to get the job done in a careless but genius sort of way. Whatever it takes!
      I personally never had luck facing a flywheel mounted directly to the chuck. The harmonics or vibration created when cutting can work the flywheel loose creating an uneven cut or cause a fish scaling effect, even at any speed, with or without a rubber strap attached.
