Listening to this today stirs so many emotions. Was such an upful night. I had so much fun mixing this show as we had so much analog gear at miners foundry outboard gear I knew well and knew we would accomplish the new sound of Akae Beka. I recalled someone during soundcheck telling me he had heard that the Akae Beka sound was a little different than Midnite and I smiled and asked how. He said it was a bit more jazzy and had a lot more effects. I said let me know your thoughts later tonight after the show and he did come by the desk later and asked if we were recording as he would love a copy. I said I was recording and would share it when I got a moment. I was gifted the video by a long time brother and fan of Midnite. So I added the mix to the video and gifted it to the world here on RUclips. So much gratitude for you Arch Angel. You changed my life in so many ways. Revisiting Midnite tonight from remembering the song "new life" after talking with my wife about our first child she is bearing, realizing what an impact this band had on me when I used to see them play live every month or two an listened to them daily. 15 years later it is feeling so good to hear them again. I think this is the medicine for me right now 🙏🏽
New Life is one of my all time favorite songs. The first time I saw his brother Ronnie perform it, I was in tears because I was expecting the birth of my son. One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard!!
I was so saddened to hear about Vaughn's passing; a true loss for the music community and the world at large, and most importantly for all those whom he personally touched with the music and the message. I'm sure many on this concert might have been delighted to being treated to a spontaneous hang with Vaughn after the show and the way he loved to hold court on the street, sitting on the curb [or wherever] and just kickin' a vibe. We met as young men in St. Croix - I was passing by with a group for about 11 days and we met during our last night there - and continued to grow our bond in DC when he and Ronnie moved here. The music took us on different paths and we saw each other less in the last 20 years. I built a family and was on the road for much of the time, as was he. He had that mission that he held so dear. No matter how much time went by we always connected like brothers and the distance always evaporated immediately. I'm proud to call him my friend. R.I.P. beautiful brother.

Some of them even had an R&B tinge to them - and undercurrent that ran even through his Reggae stuff....(there's definitely echoes of R&B in the history of Reggae, especially very early on. These two styles are cousins for sure). I don't want to just air-out Vaughn's tune without his permission, but I know he would love for the world to hear what we did. Through the years he would always remark, "That was a detailed piece of work!!", and I know he was very proud of that session we did at my friend's basement during the DC blizzard of 1996.
