It's nice to see someone that knows how to proper use a 3x for a change. I hate when someone doesn't know how it works and make a "review" saying its crap. Well done sir.
That's the beauty of the system. The crankset has a gear for every situation. The cassette would further fine tune your cadence. The deal breaker on 1x systems is how I'd have to shift quickly to get into a perfect gear... 😅
@@PhiLoSoPheR_NonSenSebut the shifts happen quicker and less guess work. On riding trails with sudden downs, the 3x8 was crap, 1x12 is much better, I rode 3x8 for several rides and was my only trail bike and even treated it with ex y carbon bar, but the old geo and 3x8 sucked badly. It has been my commuter bike and still remains, for that it is great.
@Babychickhands I guess I don't ride trails that much so I'll never know the joys of 1x. I love speed and efficiency so the 3x is my go to. I... Commute too. Used to but not as often as then. Fewer gears in the rear meant both hands and legs were working and wheels were rolling faster and faster. I'm going to replace my rear wheel soon so that I'll ride a cassette with a wide range. 42-34-24 against 11-36...
Looks like a great value. However, I would have looked into the Univega Rover RM29 on clearance right now. I got one for 230.00 with a coupon code at Mendham bikes. It comes with hydraulic brakes, microshift components, a Suntour32 fork, an extra welded gusset on the seat post, disc brakes, etc. Otherwise, the frame is very similar. Love your reviews. Thanks for the video!
What an interesting build. 3x7 with hydraulic disc brakes, and all the levers are integrated!. I'm truly interested to see what your upgrades will be... can't wait for part two!
This a very useful video. So much better than the "we bought a $99 dollar bike from Amazon / Walmart / Aliexpress... now let's compare it to a $13.000 Specialized" videos we see way too many of. I think a bike like this makes good sense for someone who only rides occasionally, on light to medium terrain and in good weather. I would love to see how a low budget bike that is actually useable like this one compares to a bike around the € 1000 price range.
The only (obvious) thing i dont really like at this bike as a Upgrade Platform is the Quick Release Rear End. But i am interested in the upcomeing episodes and what you as an Expert will Upgrade. Cool Project!
Finally a bike that doesn't beat my 26"" retro xc ht. I think I have a Trek 6500sl frame that got painted by a rental company. Paid 200eu, but spent another 1k on repairs/maintenance/upgrades. I actually downgraded my 3x9 drivetrain from 22/32/44-11-34 to 22/32/42-11-32 but I still enjoy it, the lowest gear used to be a little too low for 99%. And going to 1x is almost worthless (except for chain retention)..I only have room for 1 bike and it needs to do everything. Do you have some hacks for 3x users to improve chain retention? Some ppl use an external spring on the derailleur, or try using a 2x11/1x10 shimano 4120 on 3x10 drivetrain. Why can't shimano give us 3x drivetrains with clutch? Or make a front derailleur that can deal with narrow wide chainrings
Impressive bike for the money. You even got hydraulic disc brakes for that money. But that crappy rear derailuer must go. I would have replaced it with Altus rd m-310. I think it is the best value for the money, and the build quality is so much better and stronger then tourney. For that fork. Would it be possible to replace the spring to stronger ones, or perhaps put a distance on the springs to compress it more?
Interesting where it was produced. A big no-no if it just rebranded ali-bike. And from US amazon it looks like china-made. 15 kilos is extreme. And I don't think its good for kids, I had a heavy bike, although full-sus, when I was a kid and all I dreamed of was a bike with light modern frame.
@@jinxterx I was benching 305 for 5 and running 6 minute miles at 46. Kelly Slater was winning international surfing championships at 50. Don't sleep on the old guys! hehe

Not to mention tuning a 3x is a lot more work than tuning a 2 and a 1x...
Listen guys , i'm not saying 3x is amazing ok?
But i see a lot of people that don't know how to use it and then say its crap thats all.

Thanks, it's definitely not viral "walmart on downhill track" video, but I hope it will be helpful for many buyers.
Interesting advice from a specialist ! And Lapierre is a good brand. I like those 400€ bikes!
Great deal for $370... 👍But I would expect some different brand than Lapierre in that price level. So twice as good 😀
Excited for up coming episode
Really good to see a capable MTB for a fair price. It's probably all the bike that a rider who rides 15-20 times a year needs. 👍

It would be cool if LaPierre has bikes sold in the US
Would you put rigid fork on that ?

At least in EU you can find already upgraded old bike in good condition with a bit outdated geometry for the same price.
Yes, this one is from 2022 I think.

Cheap rotors = straight rotors. God, I hated my XT rotors, after replacing them with ~10€ Shimano rotors, the rubbing finally ended.
I’ve had issues with hope discs, I’m going to use others in future
2.3mm wide rotors are the way to go, I use TRP
sorry for my OCD, but please remove the sticker from the front derailleur which shows the ideal height of it 😅
And... the front mech is 5mm to high :)
BTW, what is OCD?
@@cannondany one of its type is to have the desire to have things symmetrical or in perfect order always :)
106th like, dammit 😂 105 was my goal ofcpurse
it doesn't have a suspension fork, not really. that thing may move up and down a bit for about two years before becoming completely unusable

My first "MTB" costed $120 and I won many races on it :)
Lapierre is a french brand with 75 years behind it.
Why is rebranded ali bike bad?
Agreed, buy it for yourself maybe, but not for a kid, could be more than 1/3 of their weight
Pretty cool that you're so old and still riding a bike!
Damn, he's not that old. lol What are you 12??
