Growing up when Ken would be announcing at Thunder Road in Barre VT I never realized that everytime I've seen this clip in any montage that it was him. RIP to a great Vermonter
I remember this call like it was yesterday. I was a senior in high school in high school and have always been a diehard NASCAR fan. Like others have said, this call helped NASCAR to become the sport that it became in the 80s and early 90s. Rest in peace to one of the greatest broadcasters of my favorite sport.
Thank you Mr. Squier for convincing CBS to Broadcast the 1979 Daytona Race, I have not missed it since! My Boys and I enjoyed your calling of the Race. Rest in Peace.😔
In Michigan we were snowed in and there were very few Nascar races on TV back then unlike today and I remember the words " there's a fight " and of course who won ? Petty , big memory from back then
my first memory from Ken Squier 1997 Daytona 500. "down the back straightaway big trouble Earnhardt OUT. up and over number 3. and for the nineteenth time lady luck deals a bad hand to Earnhardt..."
WDEV listeners know of Ken’s star status but they also know Ken as one of those “common men doing uncommon deeds.” Deepest condolences to the Squire family and his many close friends.
TL;DR : Nascar, have harsher penalties and your ratings will go up, not down. Yeah great job Nascar 👏 I get that it’s the 70’s but that doesn’t mean standards back then didn’t make sence. Yarborough or whoever was the one hitting the other driver with his helmet, I can’t believe he never got banned (might of gotten a small suspension and fine but thats really not enough). I’m glad I wasn’t born back then because I would be livid. Drivers still throw fists at each other on pitroad and look now, it gives you a maximum of a what? 3-4 race suspension? But if you have an illegal part (I know gray territory) on your car, your crew chief gets suspended 4 races? And a loose wheel? Look I get both these acts are not fair and dangerous but it’s nothing compared to being thrown punches with a helmet and basically doing nothing about it. I haye to be one of those “annoying fake fans” but ever since I started watching Nascar in 2001, I’ve seen so many physical fights its insane. Yes the officials (sometimes) try to intervene, but if you would give deserving harsher penalties it would happen a lot less.
Maybe not a pair Check Yarboroughs record it speaks for it self first three times in a row cup champion with 83 wins He was with one of the greatest cup drivers of all time one of them I mind you
@@bert1981 ever heard the saying never judge a book by its cover? 1 dipstick move doesnt make you a bad driver. Everyone F’s up every now and then. 3 titles in a row? Thats what legends are made of. Granted this move was definitely in character for cale Yarborough, he wasnt called old hickory for nothing.
Rest easy, Ken Squier. You were truly the very best at your craft.
Chills... Every... Damn... Time...
That is such an iconic voice! Rest in peace Ken! We gonna miss you.
The Greatest Story Ever Told, The 1979 Daytona 500. Rest in peace Ken, thank you for the memories.

RIP Ken Squire. You were one of the best, and a treasure for anyone in motor sports who lived in New England and very Northeastern New Your State.😢
I loved hearing Ken Squier call a good nascar race each week. RIP Ken Squier.

Farewell King, we owe so much of how many lives this sport has touched to you and your efforts to share Nascar to a wider audience. Thank you.
Can't believe he's gone💔. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. He was certainly a legend and will be missed. R.I.P sir.
Greatest call ever, Ned Jarrett and his 1993 Daytona call is second
Gonna miss that old excitment
The greatest to ever do it in Nascar, he WAS the voice, like Keith Jackson was the voice to college football. Won't be another like him.
This fight will never get old
RIP Ken Squier and Cale Yarborough. 😢😢😢
Rip ken squire
Rip Kenley Dean Squier, you will be missed
The race that made NASCAR
What Murray Walker was for Formula 1 as a commentator and race fan, there was Ken Squier for Nascar
I’ll remember Ken for many things, but this is where everybody learned who Ken was.
RIP Legend.
Ken Squier was the voice of NASCAR in my youth. And Chris Economaki, Bob Jenkins Benny Parsons ... Legends RIP

watching last nights race at richmond (8/11/24) brought back memories to this
In Michigan we were snowed in and there were very few Nascar races on TV back then unlike today and I remember the words " there's a fight " and of course who won ? Petty , big memory from back then
He was a Legend 🫶🏽
Ken not only was the play by play, he was the director telling the camera operators where Petty and Foyt are on the track after the crash.
RIP Ken, Carl, and Bobby.
my first memory from Ken Squier 1997 Daytona 500.
"down the back straightaway big trouble Earnhardt OUT. up and over number 3. and for the nineteenth time lady luck deals a bad hand to Earnhardt..."
THE BEST.
Rest in piece 😢
I extremely hope UTTP doesn’t make fun of his death
clear cut case of "if you ain't first you're last"

Some pretty dumb racing right there. Did he say a pair of the greatest? No way shape or form.

@@altec19 I can see he’s not from this bullshit driving.
I don't see any dumb racing there. Back when men weren't afraid to put the chrome horn to use and wasn't any crybaby pussies behind the wheel
