Like you said, this isn’t gonna change ur life, but just about any pedalboard user has plenty of use for a boost pedal and imo this is now one of the coolest options in that space.
I get a kick out of the people saying this is not worth it because it’s too subtle, or it’s “snake oil”. This has all the gain I would ever want, and does it without shelving off all the bass frequencies like 90% of overdrive pedals out their. Someone elsewhere said they think this might be the best drive pedal Boss ever made, and I have to totally agree.
It’s like the MXR Fat Sugar, or a Tubescreamer, they’re subtle compared to higher gain units but when used properly they’ll melt the walls. A lot of players misunderstand gain. If the breakup grain is right then the master volume dishes out the sauce good and hot!
I always find the best pedals are the ones that don’t try to do everything :) I always joke and say I like the boring peoples! Which is EQ, boost, tuner etc :) they are the most useful :) especially for live! Just ordered a BP-1w :)
I can't remember if I already commented on this video or not, but I got one of these and it's incredible how much of a difference it makes. When using it in person you can really hear a difference between the preamp modes, as well as a difference in your overall tone when the pedal is engaged.. I actually use it with the IR-2, and I can't explain exactly why it does this (maybe it's as simple as a volume boost), but the BP-1W adds more clarity to my entire signal chain. I have it on almost all the time now. It genuinely is a great pedal. Not flashy or crazy by any means, but one of those "once you have it you'll be glad you have it" sort of things.
I was just reading on buffered pedals. Boss specifically, when this vid dropped. Good stuff to check out at 2:00 AM after an Ambien…Let’s see if I make it through. Considering building a Boss Mini-Board. This BP1w has a sound of its own for sure. Good stuff LT.
@@scramblesthedeathdealer the boss buffer is far from the ideal 1Mohm in 100ohm or less out. The Bonafide for example is 1 Mohm in and 100 out. But as I said before, the boss buffers are better than not having them.
Like the CE-1, preamp on the RE-201 is also fiddly about the impedance of the signal driving it. It’s kind of interesting that people crave the circuits from the pre-compact pedal era when all of the standard Boss pedals are well buffered to avoid these sorts of issues. Strange world we live in.
Hahaha yeah it's funny isn't it. I think the fact those COULD sound cool but you were stuck with them always on was the main drawback. Having it all be switchable makes sense.
The Roland RE-201 Space Echo preamp is modeled perfectly in the Strymon Volante. Sometimes I just use the Volante for that preamp tone when I want to add that particular brightness to my guitar.
Hey mate, it would be awesome to hear this used to push a triaxis. Ive been experimenting with boost and od pedals with my triaxis and had the best results with a dod308, an xotic rc, ac and bb pedal followed closely by a wampler tumnus deluxe. Id love to hear your top 5 od pedals into your triaxis.
Great demo; always learning so much by watching your videos and reviews...right, it won't change your life, but it will improve the tone you enjoy creating in life.
Humbuckers are split and single coils are tapped. That said, I thought that guitar sounded kinda trashy split with that pedal, however, the Rush tones were pretty authentic! Thanks.
I'm looking for a good analog pedal amp replacement ? Plugging it into a IR loader pedal or OX STOMP or power amp depending on the situation and using it as a pedal platform. Would this be a good candidate ? What other pedal would you recommend for these types of tones ?
Just ordered 5 of them. Want to see how they sound cascading in series for the ultimate gain control. I posted this comment after reading the others… … 😂😂😂
I really love the Waza Craft line, and I have a few in my collection already. But I'm not really hearing anything major in this pedal that my BD-2W won't pretty much do. Or any sounds I couldn't get in another way. My advice would be, just buy the BD-2W, first. And if you want perfect chorus, get the Dimension C. Of course, the MT-2W is my main pedal. ✌️ However, the GE-7 is still the most important pedal on my board. 👍
Given I have a Micro Amp up front and a ChaseTone Preamp later in my chain…I’d love to justify this. But the ChaseTone for a great job for mojo although different EP style, and MXR Micro a great clean boost. If I didn’t already have the ChaseTone, Micro Amp and an RE20…I’d highly consider this. But I don’t really have $169 burning in my pocket, given I have some good boost/preamps already. But if I was a diehard Frusciante fan I would buy this! Could be cool to put in a bypass loop pedal, with a CE-2W to turn both on and off at the same time. That would probably be my personal best case use for it right now. And also maybe RE mode, to hit my RE20 as that’s a digital modeling. I kinda wish they just made a CE1 style with EQ…I’d be all over that as a companion piece before the CE-2W CE1 mode!
RIFF RAFF! Great choice for boost demo! Don't past fx make a booster lile this. Curious if ya do an A-B! Next Wazza should be Phaser, Flanger or the Tremelo/Pan
It seems to me that after Eventide released the Riptide🎉 that Boss, who have upscale pedals at upscale prices in the WAZA line, should do the same kind of dual effect pedal thing. Dual effects pedals are fun. And space savers. A drive with a shift function and a modulation or delay incorporated into a Boss standard size pedal with stereo I/O and MIDI would be a great upscale line of its own.
I had a Space Echo for years, and I found its effect on the basic tone to be completely unacceptable. That is also how I remember the CE-1, which my guitar teacher owned (although I suspect that impedance may have played a role there as well, since many of them were set up for use with keyboards). I like the natural mode on this, but the CE and RE modes kind of confirmed my prejudices against those products. I will be happy to give this one a miss and stay with more hi-fi options.
Hey my Aussie friend from Pearth - there are some guys in Pearth that have a cherry 1972 Les Paul sunburst in perfect condition - absolutely gorgeous! only $11,000+ not sure if US or Aus dollar.
Great demo, great playing as you always do. Nice bit of Rainbow in there too, and some Rush! No disrespect intended, it's not 'wozza', it's pronounced as 'wah-zah'. 'Wozza' is you're best mate you meet at the pub. 'Wah-Zah' is a Japanese word that means something like technique or skill. Please don't take any offense at what I have said, it's just something that I personally notice and it really stands out to me. I shouldn't be commenting on people's pronunciation because I am not a native English speaker.
What should the next Waza craft pedal be?
Reissue the feedbacker/sustainer pedals!
A Mesa MK2c+

I could really use a 'Talent Booster'

It really is a versatile boost/preamp

I bought one two days ago and I love it. Love AC/DC too. For almost 50 years

The boss buffers are better than nothing, but not as good as a TC Bonafide for example.
Dude, I run 8 or 9 Boss pedals in my signal chain, it sounds fine to me 🤷♂️

Sounds great! Awesome playing as always Leon. Cheers! 🤘🏻😎🎸
Definitely not needed at the moment, but nice to see boosts getting some love and special treatment! Cheers, D
Excellent demo Leon, I have just ordered this pedal, cant wait to try it :)
Enjoy!
Boss is doing a really good job of selling PastFX pedals. The CE-1w should have included the CE-1 preamp in it.
The EP Booster has been on my mind for quite awhile until I saw this release,,thanks for the review ☕️
Excellent review, just pre-ordered mine today from Sweetwater after watching this review!
Hope you enjoy it!
Subtle but sweet. Makes a great "nice to have" if not a "have to have" I think.
Great demo; always learning so much by watching your videos and reviews...right, it won't change your life, but it will improve the tone you enjoy creating in life.
So true! thanks mate
Game changer magic tone polisher of the year?!
This is definitely something I’m into.
You can't go wrong with Boss....oh Leon!! Latest "no guitar is safe" episode is George Lynch 😁🎸🙏 just incase you didn't know brother.
OHHHH!
Very interesting! It's almost Christmas... BTW, did you practice RHCP after you said in the Podcast that you don't really listen to them?
Hahaha I've played that live a bunch of times before so it's one of 3 chilis tunes I can play
I’d like to try this in front of my 800. Just recently got a Mythos Wildwood drive pedal (klon clone)….you tried that ? Pretty slick.
Humbuckers are split and single coils are tapped. That said, I thought that guitar sounded kinda trashy split with that pedal, however, the Rush tones were pretty authentic! Thanks.

At this rate, I'm never gonna be able to finish my Boss compact pedal collection...
I want one of these SO BAD!
Got one a few weeks ago, instant spot on the pedal board (and I have around 60 pedals)!
They shloulda put the hyperfuzz boost in there.
There are a countless number fuzz pedals everywhere. Boost is a boost, I'm so very glad they kept it that way.
Just ordered 5 of them.

1:13 so classic
Just wondering what effects you're using during the outro at the very end of the video? Sounds cool
Thanks, that's the solo from the new ragdoll single "Skies Limit". It's the Axe-Fx USA Lead model with some reverb, dual delay and detune
@@LeonTodd awesome. Thanks
Did I miss where Leon tells what amp he’s playing into?
Need BP-1W versus RC Booster!
This doesn’t beat the RC booster.
Wonder how it works in the fx loop? 🤔
Best thing is just buying a CE2 Waza, the CE1 mode has a boost anyway.

Why do I always think of Bart Simpson's dad when I see this guy.. Anyway..thanks for one more review :-)
Does this replace my Ep boost is the question ?
I would think not. The preamps on a CE-1, Space Echo, and Echoplex all have different tonal characters.

How about "wow-za!"
Your face says it all ;-)
i guess they didnt like mile end effects doing it so they made there own?
kinda lame
go and get the mile end effects preamp 150 (ronald)
sigh* time to get out my wallet
I like the idea of this but don't think it actually sounds that nice. Preferred the chorus tone without it.
they stole my idea
JHS Clover is still better.
No thanks. My Digitech Bad Monkey is still the best OD ever made. Just sayin
