    I have a 2000 Red Label Arnage in Tempest Silver. I’ve done 3k miles this year. I average 16.9mpg, 97 octane fuel in the UK... I have had 20.9mpg once on a trip. I spent around £2250 getting the niggley bits done, Aircon regas, new wheel centres, jacking point fixed on drivers side, new wing mirror glass as the old ones had faded, speaker fixed, door chrome button reconnected, new front discs. All brake pads were fitted 1100 miles before I bought it and still in perfect condition. I had a sensor fail on thermostat. And I replaced the powered aerial finally I replaced the starter battery in the boot, the left one as it had over charged at some point and was boiling hot. Everything has been very reliable otherwise. A year of ownership i have bought 4 new tyres £530 and £80 fitted. Next service due this week and I’m going to replace the rear brake discs this time. I’m expecting that to cost around £900. Wonderful car, amazing power, handling and oh the torque! If you can buy one, do it now!

    I am so glad I found your series on the Arnage! I have been looking at these off and on for several years but the horror stories I read online have scared me off them. Then I talk to a friend that has one and his experience is like yours and he keeps telling me do it! I drive a 2009 A8L and let me tell you that car can be scary as heck on upkeep also! I look forward to seeing your updates and just might be motivated to finally do it! I am leaning more towards towards the 2008/9 though as I like the chrome grille and the standing flying B on the hood. Am also trying to get one with the "small rear window" option as I think it makes the car even more elegant :). Thanks for the videos man!!!

    • @JoshsWorld
      @JoshsWorld  7 лет назад

      Thanks, Mark. The A8 is an impressive car, but the Bentley will give you a visceral experience that an Audi can't match. Good luck on your search... finding that small rear window is going to be a challenge.

    FYI - I put new Avon tires on my 1999 Green Label; cost $610.00 each...yes EACH. I shopped around and the dealer had the best deal!

    I am now on my second Arnage. The first was a 6.75 Red label. Hideously unreliable, stupidly expensive to maintain, and I wouldn't have another one if you gave it to me. HOWEVER.....The Green Label I have owned for almost two years (BMW 4.4 engine) is a totally different proposition. No issues whatsoever, just as comfortable, fractionally slower, but all round a far happier experience as I don't get in it praying it will not break down. If you are seriously thinking of buying an Arnage my advice is do your research. The Red Label and the 'T' are almost certain to go seriously wrong at some point, frequently the head gasket or even worse on the 'T' the camshafts. The 4.4 is not only bullet proof but ironically the cheaper one to buy (for now) as for some strange reason people seem to want the 6.75, viewing the BMW engine as undesirable.

    Turn of the traction control and you can do the wildest burn outs ever. T is a torque monster.

    $530 for coolant and oil change? That seems nuts even for a luxury dealer service, I just had my Jeep's radiator replaced for $330 with labor - at a small shop. I'm pleased to see that was your only major expense in six months however.

  • @guitarlearningtoplay
    @guitarlearningtoplay 7 лет назад +1

    I saw another Bentley owner (about the same age as your make and model) on RUclips say that it costs him about $1,400/15,000 miles to change all 4 tires with labor. He drives it a lot more than you do though.

    • @blairhenderson5005
      @blairhenderson5005 6 лет назад

      Yeah, that's the thing. It's not only the cost of maintenance - it's the frequency. I've heard 10k on tires and 4k on brake pads are par for the course.

    You are the luckiest son of a bitch in the world. My 2004 Bentley Arnage Le Mans Edition cost me $30,000 over the first 6 months. The Arnage was so bad that when I took my 2012 Bentley GTC in for service, the dealer offered me another Bentley Arnage they had in stock for $1 if I promised to have it serviced there. No way.

    Thanks for another great video!
    Your best piece of advice: Get the car checked out by a Bentley dealer before purchasing. I neglected that advice and my dream car (2005 black on black Arange T) has been in the shop since I brought it home in November. The thing with these cars is since they are relatively rare some parts have to be shipped from Crewe--and they're expensive. I'm waiting on a $4,500 dual fuel pump assembly. BTW there are videos of my Arnage too--on my mechanic's website :).
    Still these are amazing automobiles and worth every penny in obtaining and maintaining them. I have some other fun cars but none make me feel the way I do when I step out of the Bentley. Hell my Camry is almost as comfortable and way more reliable but I can never pick it out in the parking lot. Don't have that problem with the Arnage.
    Enjoy your '04. Beautiful car.

    Thank you Josh. I've been considering either a GTC or Azure.
    Daily driver is a Model S. If you're like me, you may already be considering your next car. So, might there be a Flying Spur in your future? Something else perhaps?

    • @JoshsWorld
      @JoshsWorld  7 лет назад

      Thanks, Bruce. I considered the GTC and Flying Spur while shopping for this car, but those cars (in excellent condition) were beyond my budget. Azure is okay, but convertibles accentuate my thinning hair! The Brooklands coupe is amazing, rare, and beautiful. That would be a worthy consideration.

    Josh, does your car have power-tilt steering (i.e. where the steering wheel extends towards you)?
    I drove an '01 Arnage and could not find any button which extends the wheel to you. Only the switch to make the wheel go up and down (but not towards the driver). Does Arnage have this? Where is the control located? Thanks in advance!

    • @JoshsWorld
      @JoshsWorld  6 лет назад

      It only has power tilt, not telescoping.

      So there is no manual control to bring the wheel close either?

    Hey Josh, I just stumbled across your vids. I'm in Austin, TX and like most people I've always wanted to buy one and have been leery about purchasing an older Arnage but the prices are so attractive right now. My main concern is indie shops that can service the car reasonably vs dealer service mark up. I suppose since I've been able to maintain a 1995 Jaguar VDP and 07 Mercedes CL550 then I should be able to afford the Bentely Arnage right? lol

    You barely drove it. You didn't even put 1500 miles in 6 months. This less than what I drive in 1 month and less than my bike in 6 months.... The car needs to be exercised.

      I bought a new truck Jan 1st and I'm still waiting to hit 5k miles since I'm working from home now. That's about 6k miles in a year. So If I bought a Bentley as a 2nd or 3rd vehicle, I imagine it would get driven about 2k miles per year. And that would probably make it less likely to need repairs.

    • @WDGary

    You should count the tire cost. It cost you money and it's for this car. You also hardly put miles on it. the point is for people to compare it to owning a regular used car. The prices of a Bentley tire are way more than a Toyota Camry whatever. That's the extra cost. Then you shouldn't mention any cost at all because every car needs a tune up, etc...Just because Bentley is suggesting you take care of the care every such and such miles with a complete tuneup doesn't mean your shouldn't for every car. So why mention it it is incidental right. Smh

    • @JoshsWorld
      @JoshsWorld  7 лет назад

      Since the tire replacement was incidental, I do not include it in my report of expenses for this vehicle. If I ran over a screw in any car, it would not be a fair representation to say that it costs more to run that car because of this incident. My objective is to report on how much somebody can expect to spend maintaining a Bentley, all things considered equal. When the tires need replacement due to normal wear, that will be included in my report. Incidents and accidents will not be included.

    Your expenses are quite low for a Bentley, even in 2017 and not 2023 worthless dollars. Your MPG is high, probably you drive it on highways and country roads and not in stop-go traffic.

    I WOULD be able to pay the costs in order to drive this car....and I 'd love to do so.
    BUT....there is such thing as the Flemish government...and their evil compagnons, the Fiscal Administation.
    And when it comes down to do some steaming on decent, hardworking citizens...they make a great team...and they make you bleed.
    So, here in Belgium the many different taxes on big luxurious cars with a cathedral of an engine....are just too much. Purchase-tax, immatriculation-tax, eco-tax, annual driving taxes....the first year the total amount of taxes is about as high as the actual prize of the car. The next year we are still talking about 5-6000€ a year, just to be allowed on public.roads.with your car.
    And than there is the gas-bill...over here Super98 fuel is costing just under 2€/liter....unreal

    • @JoshsWorld
      @JoshsWorld  7 лет назад

      That sounds terrible! In Texas, you pay a one-time 6.25% of the purchase price for tax. Annual registration is about $85/year.
