    I wonder why the stigma is still there. Do we ask people if their lashes, nails, boobs are real?

      I honestly feel like it's not there as much as we think it is. It may have been the case a while ago but the tide is definitely turning!

    I don't go out of my way to tell people I wear wigs. However if someone comments upon my "hair" I happily tell them that it's a wig.

    I still have my biohair, shoulder length, but it is thinner than I would like it to be as I get older, hence fun with wigs. I prefer not to share my beauty techniques, especially since so many relatives and friends, for example, are judgey. Who needs that? I don't do this to get comments, I do it because I like how I look in my (many, many) wigs. If someone asked outright (rude, in my opinion), I would answer honestly and say "Yes, I am having so much fun with them!".

      Thanks for this comment! Great insight!
      I think that the judgy-ness in society is really improving. It is really refreshing to see more celebrities and younger generations wear wigs like it is no big deal (because it isn't). People's judgement says more about them than you - so - you keep rocking it!

      I think we need to change that attitude. There are many cultures and different diversities that wear some kind of “hair they wear” and no thinks a thing of it. My family knows and my kids thought it was weird at first but now they all seem to have a favorite one.

    It's funny..I never had an issue telling people when I was wearing hair extensions or clips ins (before my hair loss). But now I feel self conscious about telling people I'm wearing a wig ugh🙈 lol.

  • @debbarclay2456

    This is spot on! I think those of us with some form of hair loss are already self conscious about it and feel when we wear wigs its drawing attention to the fact that we have hair loss. I was embarrassed to wear my wigs out for a good year, then one day I had some kind of epiphany and realized they made my look and feel better so why should I be embarrassed?? I kind of adopted the attitude of its fun to change up my hair just like those who wear them for fun. Only those that really know us know our struggles and those are generally the people that care about us and want us to do whatever makes us happy. No one cares if I wear a wig or not, it was my own insecurities holding me back. So thank you for this video, I know it will help a lot of people that haven’t come out of “their “wig closet” yet ❤️

    People can be very obnoxious if they know you are wearing a wig Its best to deny it if you just use one If you use a few then you have to tell the truth

    • @TheWiggyWoman
      @TheWiggyWoman  3 года назад +8

      I have found most people, honestly do not care. Crappy people will be obnoxious about anything, glasses, weight, height, social status.... it's not really about the wigs so much as something that a bad person perceives as a weakness. Take away their power by not accepting it as a weakness.

    Well first finally updated my you tube video! Now on to this subject I work from home (even prior to Covid) and I travel to our home office once a quarter. We have a lot of video calls as well. And I’m sure that many of noticed my thinning hair although I tried to hide it by wearing it a certain way. Anyway I wore my wig that now I guess will be my work wig lol. I did tell my boss we are close and she knew I was thinking of going this route anyways. She loved it! And I got so many compliments. Those that I felt comfortable enough I told. And most of them had a story to tell me of a loved one or closed friend that also had hair loss for various reasons. Now the men at work I didn’t tell them. In some of the religious culture of some of my co workers it is normal for their wives to cover their hair by wearing a wig. So they may have been able to tell but anyways I didn’t feel comfortable telling them and would just politely say Thank you to their compliments. Now I decided I will wear that wig for work and I ordered a very similar wig that is waved so I have a straight and wavy one for work.

    They can usually tell...my hair is raspberry pink. When my hair is black ...they kinda know. When I am wearing a wig that matches the pink...they simply assume I styled it differently. My attitude is it's a fun option. Recently we went to a concert...my daughter said hey what you wearing? I said pink shirt and shorts. She goes " long hair, short hair, what color, or are you going with your own?" I said, " I'm gonna surprise myself." That night, I went with my own... I figure it was a comedy club and if they mentioned my hair at all that asked you the fun but if I was worrying a fake hair piece and they mentioned my hair then I will be self-conscious I'm never self-conscious when I'm wearing my bright pink natural hair so that's what I went with. But like if I had a court date I might consider wearing the black natural wig or a bun or something like that that would be more acceptable for court but for everyday life I change it up often.

      I love the pink hair!!!!!! Don't be self concious - it's no different than rocking lipstick or spanx!!

    Surprisingly no one ever talks about this! My biggest struggle has been who to tell and when to tell them. Now I'm wearing wigs more openly, I've started giving people I'm going to see regularly a "heads up" to avoid my own dread of unsolicited comments.

    I’ve told family and friends. I joked that I was beginning to look like my dad in a way I’d rather not. 😜
    Neighbors, Im sure, have figured it out considering I wear different colors and lengths all the time.
    My biggest dilemma is deciding which wig to wear that goes best with the outfit of the day. My bio hair never looked as good as my wigs, even on my best hair day. 😊

    I agree if you’re going to be changing up your wigs then those around you will do a doubletake if you don’t say actually I’m a wig wearer, but I also have to carefully pencil in my eyebrows but I never ever tell anyone that I have no eyebrows and draw them in every morning

  • @sarahlennox8963

    I do, makes no difference to me. If they have a problem, that's a them-problem, not a me problem 🤣 if they want to judge me for losing my hair involuntarily at 11, that's definitely not my problem lol. Most people don't care because they know it's not their business, but some people like having something on you. But they can't if I take the power and make the choice myself 😊

    • @TheWiggyWoman

    Ok what about if you’re wearing dentures. Do you also need to tell people that. My answer is No to both questions. Really is it anyone else’s business. Another thought. It is our real hair since we bought and paid for it.

    Honesty i have to disagree. Its harder to tell people that you wear wigs just because you are not happy with the look of your own hair.
    People are much more accepting if you have a medical reason.

    • @TheWiggyWoman
      @TheWiggyWoman  2 года назад +2

    • @itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118

      I think it depends on the person who is wearing the wigs. I've noticed the observation made in the video as well as yours.
      I have alopecia androgenica/androgenetica (whatever it's spelled) and I've lost 2/3rds of my original hair volume. My midpart is like the red sea, my edges are transparent and reach way back. But I don't have any clear bald spots so if I wear wigs some people have been negative about it. My hair is too thin to do pretty much anything with. No bangs. It's just limp, thin and see through.
      "you should only wear wigs if you have cancer, this is disrespectful towards people with cancer", " if you're wearing wigs because your hair has become thinner then that's insulting towards people with naturally thin hair", "only black women should wear wigs for fun", "you shouldn't hide behind a wig, I don't think you should have the option to hide behind a wig, the only mentally healthy option is to show your own hair".
      Those are all the of judgmental reactions I've gotten.
      On one hand people are more accepting if you have a medical reason, as long as it's something they recognize as valid.
      Some people with medical hair loss are ashamed, others are not. Some people who have a full head of hair don't give a hoot about any negative comments they receive if they wear wigs to change up their style.
      If you have thin/frizzy/textured hair are you're not happy with it, then wearing wigs can lead to people wanting to debate you about toxic beauty standards. It's tiring.

    You don’t need to tell us, most humans have hair and this wig isn’t so I’m curious that people aren’t intelligent to only expect fibre on dolls, the fact humans are born with hair says it all
