  • In this video I make an Edwardian 4 Panel door, this design was from 1900-1910. These are often seen in Houses in the older parts of Sydney, which is where this door was going also.

I notice you guys only use solid wood as opposed to a stave core door or any other engineered material , you don’t ever have any problems with movement later on? I like to start making some doors but I’m nervous about stock bowing or twisting over time so I’m looking into different methods

We use a solid core of ply on some designs where it is covered and I am concerened with movement, but in general, we use mainly just solid timber.
Movement is an issue with some designs, and of course timber species also plays a big role in the stability.
In regards to the designs of the doors I have videos of, movement in them is usually minimal, so not of much concern.

I made a door out of solid cedar and it would warp 1/2” depending on the humidity. I live in the southeastern United States. When I made a stave core door it was so stable I couldn’t consistently measure its warp with humidity changes.

Design plays a big part. I dont make anything that I know will give trouble.
In saying that, sometimes it just happens, but thankfully its a rare event.
