Problem because the coils are different

You say the newest version ends in H but this one ends in G. I'm no Kia engine expert but I strongly suspect based on my years in the car parts industry that the G at the end means it's the last revision of the old engine and H, I, J etc will be revisions of the later engine (probably different because of Euro 6) If it went to Kia Nottingham with a hole in the block, they would've fitted a short engine ordered in by their parts department. Short engine is only a built up bottom end so cylinder head, turbo (if tested OK) and ancillaries from the old engine would've been transferred to the short engine before fitting. As it's mechanical parts only, ECU remapping wouldn't be necessary. Call the dealers service department and ask if they can read out the details on that job number. They won't be disclosing personal info so won't be breaching GDPR. Another thing before I forget, your Topdon Autel thing can write VIN numbers too so don't trust what you see there.
Part 2...I don't think a Kia dealer would bodge a pipe with a bolt though, they would've changed the bottle and pipe. Maybe this isn't it's first engine? I once had an A3 2.0 TFSI a long time ago that did this, the owners manual actually states that the engine will run rough for the first few minutes while the catalytic converter warms up. Being a 40 second thing with no codes, are you 100% sure it's not normal for these engines? If the answer to that is no, you need a proper auto electrician looking at this, Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics is the best on YT but he's in the USA. Best UK YT alternative I've seen is Milligan Auto Services but Ryan's in Glasgow so too far from the midlands. Anyway, an auto electrician that follows their methodology always solves the problem.
Remove the MAF sensor and see if it still misfires, also get your guy that maps your cars to look at fuel trims when on cold start, there could be something he can do to make the idle better as it could be throwing extra fuel or less fuel
Only changed half the oil 😂 the car was leaning backwards, and sump plug at the front, higher than the back of the sump. Just a little heads up, for another oil change. You either need 4 axle stands, or while it’s draining, lower the car back down so it all drains. It’s a faff, but pointless putting clean oil in with dirty oil
This is a GDI engine and as such, is a direct injection. It needs a walnut shell internal clean because it has carbon deposits. This will not show on the sensors. It also won't show in the injectors. It happens a lot in GDI engines. Mitsubishis are renown for it. That's what's causing your misfire.
Have you considered that once you get to 80 - 100k cars very few people are going to be on fb market place swapping cars with random people? Just a thought
True it will be really hard. I'm also trying the same here, but not trading up, just buy a car repair it sell it. Then buy something more expensive and sell it for more profit. Till now it goes great. Started with 300€ now having 4k within just 5cars.
The only car you've had a massive issue with, that you so far haven't been able to solve, is one sourced from Calvin. I remember a few years back watching LLF and Calvin was in a few videos. There were a lot of comments about Calvin chopping cars etc, and loads of rumours about him being dodgy. I've also read that comments have been deleted from the previous owner stating he told Calvin about the issues, not a good look tbf! I'd stick to swapping cars with the same sort of people you've swapped with in the past. The thing is, you're spending a lot on repairs and at that point you might as well save up and buy a supercar. You're also getting deals and freebies in return for promotions and ads, which isnt costing you but would cost someone like me. I'm genuinely not being a dick, I'm just pointing out the view point of some of your viewership and making the point that the goal of the series isn't practical
Been looking forward to this Jesse mate, loving your content 👏 I’ve just started my RUclips car challenge myself so watching curiously haha 👊 good luck mate
Nice video Jesse. What a nightmare situation! But it makes for entertaining stuff.! Good luck finding out what it is. I'll keep watching, liking and commenting.!
I'd replace the coolant temperature switch, as I've found on some cars even without a fault code these can go wrong and cause running issues. Can't imagine it'd be particularly expensive, appreciate you don't want to be just throwing parts at it but might be worth a try!
Good video as ever, who would have seen a replaced engine coming? The G4FJ comes in quite a few hyundai and kia cars with a couple of power levels, so it would take someone detailed knowlage to know what the iteration of the block you have is from. Can't think how it would cause a misfire (edit unless there are ancillaries from a different power level variant or even sensors). But cracked turbo bypass valve could easily be causing problems.
@gaztl1000s G4FG is the NA engine, the engine in Jessie's Kia is the G4FJ/G the last letter is the iteration of the engine, the G4FG is the turbo T-GDI variant so will probably have lower compression maybe stronger pistons/rods/crank and possible different machinings or block/head height etc..
Hi Jesse One thing I don't thing you have done is to use a strobe light and check the ignition timing and you could also wip of the rocker covet check valve timing it could have had a timing belt changed and be a tooth out all this is worth checking out has you don't know what other have done erc 😂😂 Phil in stoke
Someone commented about being the previous owner of this car,but the message has disappeared.... really hope Jesse can get to bottom of this, coz this is a really good series but this is looking like it's going to cost a lot to sort out, fingers crossed remapping it might sort it out, good luck bro.
@Angus_____ tbh if Jesse asked Calvin to exchange it,I think Calvin would try to sort something out for him,but obviously Jesse has put money in to it,and I suppose that complicates things,Calvin seems like a fair guy.
Try smoke test the intake system from cold to make sure no leaks anywhere as it may be the case it seals back up when it warms up and possibly reason why it needs to stand for 3 to 4hrs at a time
Also about the engine light its mostly a crack in the membrane of the bypass valve on top of the intercooler they crack easy .. or it can be a vacume line to the solenoid in the back of the intercooler
That because it’s only happening on cold like someone already said after hours then again,it will either be intake gasket leak till warm or exhaust gasket,,ecu software I would get checked and mapped anyway as potentially could be decatted maybe?? Without a map it’s dumping fuel on cold start to warm cats it no longer has,,,,spray brake cleaner everywhere on cold start
It possibly could be the fuel pump? Only reason I say this is because if its faulty it will sometimes struggle to start and misfire. Going on the assumption that the car was driving fine before the previous owner sold it and it had the newer engine in. But great detective work otherwise!
Just another thing to be weary off, if say that ecu is able to work with that engine, any parts you put in, or previous owners, it may not be right for the car. Like coil pack etc I’d double check any parts aswel make sure they are for that engine also
Haters will always hate 😂 Don’t stress Calvin & Jesse, 90% of people know you’re both top lads doing honest work & creating great content! Only 10% are f**king clowns who look to stir the pot 🙄 Crack on bud ❤
Check the fuel and filter. Lift the rear seats and inspect the tank to have a look at the fuel and also the fuel filter, the engine shouldn't matter the blocks head and so on are the same. These are some engine and ecu.
Can you just map the ecu to the engine ? Maybe just put a stage 1 on it. Mallory performance ?? They could help ? Or buy the ecu for the engine and get it mapped to the car ? Just thinking out loud lol Keep going Jessie fella, class videos.
At this point everything is pointing to an ecu flash or replacement to the newer one and maybe just maybe that could be the issue, at this point it's the only thing anyone could do.. also maybe see if a scrap yard has a cee'd gt 17 plate in and see if you can get the expansion tank to route that hose.( to be on the safe side as they say) other than that there isn't much else to replace or check
Could it be that misfire happens as long as your ECU is in open loop mode? After O2 sensor warms up, ECU changes to closed loop and it corrects the fuel mixture and car runs fine... So correct software for ECU would probably help, if this is the case.
That’s exactly what it’s doing mate, open loop cold start issue, soon as it warms up a little and switches over to closed loop (lambda feedback) it runs perfectly, well done you! WGS 🤙
Check the camshaft part numbers I had the problem with a diesel Kia had one lobe for the cam sensor to read not 3 what it should have had. Had a misfire and nothing come up on a code read might be worth a check
update the ecu to the right one. It makes complete sense why it only does it on cold start, its got the wrong air to fuel mixture cause it obviously runs rich from cold and woudk explain why its fine when it gets to operating temp. Maybe also give kia Nottingham a call to ask about what they did to it to shed some more light
Thank you Jesse, great content. The coolant hose configuration, can it be swapped back to the 2013 hoses? Cold start/coolant.... Could be a link there. I'm just starting my own channel and will come across similar issues myself im sure. Keep up the good work. You are flying!! Kim
Have you pulled that solenoid for timing completely out? It can be blocked with carbon slightly causing misfire on startup because the oil is still thick and no pressure in the oil gallery. Let me know please 👍
Could it be a temperature sensor or the maf sensor ? Try cleaning the maf sensor but only use the correct cleaner spray and NOT brake cleaner which will damage the sensor. Look for any air leaks and make sure it has the correct air filter. Our Kia Sorento had a faulty air inter cooler which caused a maf sensor fault and loss of power. Kia dealer master tech couldn't find it but I did after 5 minutes looking under the bonnet.
Gutted you're having all these problems mate. On your side mate but I genuinely think Calvin knew the problem was bigger than he let on and pushed you into taking his lemon of a car. Onwards and forwards though mate good luck with everything.
Its funny, as soon as you go to a dealer is when you get a lemon. Not blaming Calvin but maybe it is a bit of a wake up call for him to actually check the cars he's taking in.
It’s seen be it got wrong engine fitted as sensor may different information for ECU cause conflicts data. That hose bank shouldn’t be there, that other red flagged wrong engine type.
Obviously let's hope they used the same ECU, that goes without saying. But as everyone has said, your ECU guy will be able to put the stock 2017 map on the ECU, or at least a tuned file for a 2017 engine. Given the ECU itself is the same.
We bought a 5 door kia ceed gt in 2014 with 6000 miles on clock ran the vehicle without fault until 2022 at 135000 miles where we started having a misfire under acceleration it went to 3 different kia dealerships for weeks at a time and even kia were unsuccessful in diagnosis and I myself stripped parts off that you have and unfortunately couldn't fix and sent it on its way into the either unfortunate because car had great service but became to unreliable without resolution.
Ask your mapping mate if he’s done a newer model ceed gt re map,if he has he will have to original file on his laptop to put onto the ecu and try that and see if it runs right. If not he will be able to get you a file to put on it
If it were me I’d contact KIA and get as much info about what work they have carried out on the car. Theres no way they’d bung that hose up like that on a customers car. And imo I don’t even think they’d put any other engine in it that the one that was supposed to be in it. My guess is it’s on its third engine and the one that’s in it now is from a euro 6 car meaning the ECU is programmed differently to meet euro 6 emissions. Which could cause a rough idle because it could be messing up the fueling on cold start. The ecu is doing one thing but the engine is set up to do something else. Because your injectors are fine, all the sensors seem to be doing what they should, all the live data looks good. As someone else mentioned check that the spark plugs you’ve fitted are for the engine that’s in the car. If there’s a difference in plugs that could cause a misfire
If it's not the turbo bypass valve and flashing the ECU to match the engine doesn't work, I would just get a stage 1 flash with a cold start delete on it.
have you tryed a compression/ leakdown test low psi in that cyclinder could cause a bad misfire on cold start ups might be worth a quick test easyly done i think i have a gauge if you need to borrow Jesse

Yeah I don’t think it’s possible if you don’t sell some of the cars for cash and buy the next one swapping where you can.
I totally agree actually didn’t think of that good point made there👍
True it will be really hard. I'm also trying the same here, but not trading up, just buy a car repair it sell it. Then buy something more expensive and sell it for more profit. Till now it goes great. Started with 300€ now having 4k within just 5cars.
I suppose you just run it and see where you go. You can always get lucky 🤞
Love watching these videos. Looking forward to the next already.
Smoke test it again once the turbo solenoid is changed. The previous leak on the intake pipe could cause the misfire if not fixed
So early! Loving the series man keep up the good work
I'd replace the coolant temperature switch, as I've found on some cars even without a fault code these can go wrong and cause running issues.
G4fg also in many different cars, from 2010 right up to present going by the Wikipedia page👍👍
Hi Jesse
One thing I don't thing you have done is to use a strobe light and check the ignition timing and you could also wip of the rocker covet check valve timing it could have had a timing belt changed and be a tooth out all this is worth checking out has you don't know what other have done erc 😂😂
Phil in stoke
Someone commented about being the previous owner of this car,but the message has disappeared.... really hope Jesse can get to bottom of this, coz this is a really good series but this is looking like it's going to cost a lot to sort out, fingers crossed remapping it might sort it out, good luck bro.
@Angus_____ tbh if Jesse asked Calvin to exchange it,I think Calvin would try to sort something out for him,but obviously Jesse has put money in to it,and I suppose that complicates things,Calvin seems like a fair guy.
@@Angus_____ Calvins a fake nice guy, told my friend to fuk off for looking around the garage for too long
It's a good job your not putting your hourly rate on the white board ... you'd be halfway down the front garden 😮
Good video as always buddy👍
Another good video. Just nees to try and keep up the tempo as it has setved you well. Good luck sorting this 🤞
Try smoke test the intake system from cold to make sure no leaks anywhere as it may be the case it seals back up when it warms up and possibly reason why it needs to stand for 3 to 4hrs at a time
Also about the engine light its mostly a crack in the membrane of the bypass valve on top of the intercooler they crack easy .. or it can be a vacume line to the solenoid in the back of the intercooler
Looking forward to it mate!! Well done
Instant thumbs up every time I see you upload!!
@@BryHrzN thank you man!
Joe at Barrow Motors had the same problem with a fiat all down to the colour of the dipstick because of a misfiring Good luck 👍👍👍👍👍
Keep it up mate you’ll get to bottom of it always love watching your videos ❤ ignore the idiots with unnecessary comments. 👌
Glad your back lad
It possibly could be the fuel pump? Only reason I say this is because if its faulty it will sometimes struggle to start and misfire. Going on the assumption that the car was driving fine before the previous owner sold it and it had the newer engine in. But great detective work otherwise!
putting me on edge with this background music mate 🤣🤣
Just another thing to be weary off, if say that ecu is able to work with that engine, any parts you put in, or previous owners, it may not be right for the car. Like coil pack etc I’d double check any parts aswel make sure they are for that engine also
Yeahhhhh buddy been waiting for this one!
Amazing content u will get there,
Haters will always hate 😂
Don’t stress Calvin & Jesse, 90% of people know you’re both top lads doing honest work & creating great content!
Only 10% are f**king clowns who look to stir the pot 🙄
Crack on bud ❤
Check the fuel and filter. Lift the rear seats and inspect the tank to have a look at the fuel and also the fuel filter, the engine shouldn't matter the blocks head and so on are the same. These are some engine and ecu.
Can you just map the ecu to the engine ? Maybe just put a stage 1 on it. Mallory performance ?? They could help ? Or buy the ecu for the engine and get it mapped to the car ? Just thinking out loud lol
Keep going Jessie fella, class videos.
Definitely worth changing the fuel filter.....if its really bad it could cause some fuel starvation perhaps and a misfire
WGS 🤙
Loving your content pal 👊
Kim
Maybe take it to a Kia tuner and get a remap? Could be fun and could get rid of any issues/ coding differences in ecu.
Who would have thought putting a different engine that is not the right one for this car could cause this problem.
Have you pulled that solenoid for timing completely out? It can be blocked with carbon slightly causing misfire on startup because the oil is still thick and no pressure in the oil gallery. Let me know please 👍
Keep at it after all the end game is not here ☄️🤘😎
Could it be a temperature sensor or the maf sensor ? Try cleaning the maf sensor but only use the correct cleaner spray and NOT brake cleaner which will damage the sensor. Look for any air leaks and make sure it has the correct air filter. Our Kia Sorento had a faulty air inter cooler which caused a maf sensor fault and loss of power. Kia dealer master tech couldn't find it but I did after 5 minutes looking under the bonnet.
I.......now...........need...........to........check...............the.......................vin 😂🤖🤖🤖
Great stuff Jesse, try tbr ECU update 👍🤞
Buy a newer model header tank and reconnect the pipe? and if it’s newer engine maybe a newer ecu to match the year of the engine?
If the engine is pretty much the same a remap centre should be able to fash it to the newer software finger cross that solves it for you
Finally. Been waiting for this
We bought a 5 door kia ceed gt in 2014 with 6000 miles on clock ran the vehicle without fault until 2022 at 135000 miles where we started having a misfire under acceleration it went to 3 different kia dealerships for weeks at a time and even kia were unsuccessful in diagnosis and I myself stripped parts off that you have and unfortunately couldn't fix and sent it on its way into the either unfortunate because car had great service but became to unreliable without resolution.
Longest car to get sorted jesse .but everyone can't be easy .
Still loving the content jesse your doing really mate.... ignore the few whoppers on here
Ask your mapping mate if he’s done a newer model ceed gt re map,if he has he will have to original file on his laptop to put onto the ecu and try that and see if it runs right.
If not he will be able to get you a file to put on it
Good luck ❤
I'm still on the vvt solenoid as that's the only thing that made a difference to the cold start when you messed on in the last video
Another Great Content ever 👌
If it's not the turbo bypass valve and flashing the ECU to match the engine doesn't work, I would just get a stage 1 flash with a cold start delete on it.
have you tryed a compression/ leakdown test low psi in that cyclinder could cause a bad misfire on cold start ups might be worth a quick test easyly done i think i have a gauge if you need to borrow Jesse
If you watched previous video you’ld’ve known he’s done it
@@jacobjakub474 Must of missed that one then my bad trying to catch up lol
I enjoy your vids, but you really need to stop saying actually all the time 😆
So glad you noticed you could get it on with out taking all that off lol
Can't win them all lad but it makes for good content for you mate 👍
