2 questions for you greg. 1) if the opponents body hits ur hand thats on the ground for a fish hook would that be interference/using free hand? 2) if on the fish hook the opponents head hits ur free hand as in the 1st clip of live reps would that be using the free hand?
I have a similar question - would these be counters/techniques that could be used by a knee-down FO athlete when going against a SNG? The HS kids I coach are going to stay knee-down as they won't be playing in college, but I know we'll play some SNG guys.
Greg, in Colorado the refs are calling a hold on the fish hook any time your hand that is not on the stick makes contact with your opponent's XXXXX (fill in the blank). So just like in the example where the stick head brushes the hand that is off the stick, Colorado refs are calling this a hold without possession.
Technically if they think you are purposely making contact with the opponent’s head with your free hand then they can call it a hold. That being said, we like the shovel counter better to take away any chances of that call being made. The shovel uses the same mechanics but keeps the left hand on the stick.
@@GregBeast32 Thanks Beast! Yeah, my guy is really good with knuckles into the ground with the free hand. I think he is so strong and pulls his opponent off balance. We have been getting some really weird referee calls like interference when we counter without making an attempt at the ball. Hard to coach for all these referee variants...
I just started faceoffs and you have been a BIG help thanks!!
Great Vid Beast! Probably the best SNG guy coaching out there.

No and no.
Are these SNG counters to be used only against another SNG?
